“Okay, you are qualified.” The guards said and the large gates were opened.
The large bands of caravan entered into the massive city.
“Where are we going?” Quinn asked one of the merchants as soon as they were far from the guards.
“The city market Square. The reason why so many merchants are moving to Archtis is becoming of the upcoming Tournament to decide who would take the golden spots.” The man replied him.
“The Golden Spots? What's that about?”
“The emperor gives out two separate slots for the Archtis President to fill with two people worthy enough to be Golden Knights. This is because of how much Archtis has contributed to the war against the demon beasts and nightmares.”
The caravan had already reached market square, and the merchants started to offload their goods.
“So due to that, most people come from neighbouring city just to get a chance, and since the Archtis President see it as a way to increase the city's pocket, he turned it into a tournament.”
Quinn was speechless but he had to take his hats off for this president.
Being able to manage such a city and even grow its popularity was not an easy feat.
“Thank you so much for this journey! I really appreciate you.” Quinn bowed down to the man who had assisted him.
The merchant man smiled, “My name is Rosales Alfredo. You can use this card in any of the shops owned by the Alfredo concerts. And thank you for saving my life. You can have this.”
Rosales said, dropping a small bag in Quinn's hands.
“Thank you, but you didn't have to.”
“Nonsense! A few hundred coins is barely enough to pay for the lives you have protected. Please accept this.”
Quinn had no choice and soon enough, the caravan left.
Bell looked excitedly at the bag in his hands.
“Can we get some food now?”
Hearing her, Quinn chuckled.
“Okay, let's go get some food.”
It was easy to spot the shops that had the edibles from the way the traders yelled with their voices.
“Let's find somewhere to stay.” Quinn said, after satisfying Bell's hunger.
The next decision to make was to get more information about the form f*e for the Golden Knight Application.
“You just have to take a left then a right.” A man directed him to a line where other teenagers stood.
“Bell, hide yourself.”
Quinn said and then walked forward, joining the line.
After waiting for his turn, he was in line to reach the table when someone pushed him aside.
“I kept this spot for myself. Why do you think you can just cut the line?” A burly student frowned, staring down at Quinn.
“I apologise.” Quinn said, not wanting to get into any trouble.
“You think an apology is going to cut it? If I don't show you a lesson now, then those other people won't learn to respect me.” The student said, gripping Quinn's collars and pulling him forward.
Quinn frowned and he was about to say something when a man in armour stepped forward.
Instantly a force field separated Quinn from the burly student.
“A Golden Knight!” The people around them gasped.
The Golden Knights were always on the battlefield so it was a rare spot to see them in cities.
“If you both intend to be Golden Knights, there is no need to cause issues over irrelevant matters.” The man said, before taking off his helmet.
Quinn looked up. That energy he had felt was the infamous mana energy.
It was said that the majority of demonic beasts and nightmares were only affected by mana infused attacks.
After their summons died, most Knights were rendered unable to fight.
A solution for this issue came up and the Knights were taught how to channel mana.
However, this kind power was only taught to Golden Knights.
It was one of the reasons the knights were so revered in various places.
“My name is Sir Asterion. And it's nice to meet you boys. Stay sharp and work hard so you can protect your city.” Asterion said, wearing back his helmet.
He bowed and continued working while the cheers of the onlookers filled the air.
It was unavoidable, the golden knights were revered for a lot of their doings on the battlefield.
And this was why Quinn wanted to be a Golden Knight.
As soon as he got that status, he would definitely be able to build a name for himself.
“Next? The entry f*e is two thousand coins.” The person behind the counter gave Quinn a strange look.
This was because Quinn's way of dressing was different from the normal around the city.
“Two thousand coins??” Quinn exclaimed. He only had five hundred with him and there was no way of getting such an amount.
“Okay that's fine. Please when would the entry be closed?” He asked.
He would need to find a way to earn more money and come back to pay for the f*e.
“It will be closed in two days, the exact day the tournament begins, and all arrangements will be finalized.” The man said he responded and then he looked behind Quinn impatiently.
Noticing this, Quinn quickly bowed his head, “Alright, thank you very much.” And he walked away.
He had to find a way to get two thousand coins in two days.
In a place he knew basically nothing about.
Then he thought about Bell.
He had no strength of his own and although he didn't like it, he had to rely on his summon.
“I don't even know what type of summon she is?” Quinn said, thinking about when he had first gotten her.
She even refused to tell him her true powers and origin.
Something about a memory loss.
Although he had no complaints, because she was exceptionally strong.
“Good day Sir. Please, is there a way I can get access to a guild around here?” Quinn stepped forward, asking one of the traders.
And he was soon directed to the Adventurer's Guild.
“I'd like to get a job. Can I find one that pays two thousand coins?”
Quinn asked as soon as he reached the main desk.
The serving lady looked up with a frown while snacking on a gum.
“Sure, we have one at the moment but you'd have to get your Adventurer's card. Do you have a summon?” She asked him, before her eyes darted around.
She couldn't see a beast around him.
“Yes. I do have one. Bell, please come out.” Quinn said.
And shadow tendrils rose from the ground, showing the distinct feature of a female body.
“It's not a beast?” The serving lady raised a brow, by this time she had stopped chewing her gum.
“Yes, but she's my summon,” He nodded, “Can I get the card now?” He asked after Bell had shown her face.
The serving lady gave a hum of approval.
This was the first time she was seeing a humanoid summon and she didn't know what to think about it.
Did this guy know that he held a power house in his hand?
It would be great if the adventurer's guild could get a summon like this.
Humanoid demonic beasts were very strong beasts, with power enough to alter the foundation of a continent.
They rarely came out but when they did, it was enough to pull down all the human forces, and then the beast would go back to its slumber.
With this idea, the serving lady got a greedy thought.
Having a humanoid beast would push the adventurer's guild to be higher than the merchant guild.
But she couldn't confirm if this man's summon was truly strong.
“Here's your card, and the job description is on the job table over there. You have to ensure you report here after completing the job. If you choose the job, you'd have to bring your card back here so in case of your death, it would be given to your family members.”
Quinn listened to her words without questioning.
This place was truly sophisticated and he was going to make the most of it.
After collecting the card, he headed to the job board.
And right there, on a golden paper was the job that held twenty thousand coins.
“It's way more than two thousand.” Quinn thought as he read the job requirements.
“A dungeon?” This was the first time he had heard of such a thing.
Someone walked to his side. “It's a gate that randomly opens once in a while, and appears at various locations. People call it the gate to hell because through it, the demonic beasts find a footing into our homes.”
The man said.
Quinn slowly nodded. Pearl City was really a closed place.
He wondered how those stuff necked families would feel when they realised the dangers in this world were more than powers or class.
“Is there a way to close it?” Quinn asked.
The man who had walked to him was wearing golden armour and for the first time, Quinn looked closely at the man.
“Sir Asterion! I'm so honoured—”
“It's okay. I see that you have gotten an adventurer's card. We are both colleagues now, so you can drop the pleasantries.” The man gave him a wide smile before drawing his focus back to the job post.
“The dungeon was the reason I came here. Yes. It can be closed but you'd have to defeat the boss of the dungeon and for those beasts, only mana infused attacks could do actual damage.”
“And that's why you were called back?”
“Yes, so I can defeat the dungeon boss. I am putting a team,” Asterion looked at Quinn, “I can sense you have a good summon, would you like to join my team?”

Quinn already knew that was the best option. There was no way he could go down there by himself. The best course of action was always with a team.“Yes. I'd go with you.” Quinn answered.“Thank you, I'd do everything to protect you. Meet us here by night, and then we'd set on our way.” Asterion said and then he turned around.Quinn nodded and went back to the serving lady.“I have accepted the job.” He said. The serving lady looked at him and then shook her head.“Kid, you have a good life in front of you. Why would you choose to waste it just like that? I thought after seeing the job description, you would choose not to go.”She said to him. The dungeons were dangerous places, and so many people never came out of there alive. And this young man was willing to step into that place.“I need money so I can get into the tournament and win it. That's how best my life can be of use, by being a golden knight, and I would do everything in my power to achieve that.” Quinn said.“Sure kid, but

The bumps along the road weren't much of a bother.“We picked the right caravan. They are heading to Archtis.” Quinn said, hiding quietly in a corner, while hoping no one would find him.He had gotten this hint from their conversation. The journey went on smoothly, with a few bumps here and there.Until it came to a stop. From the back seat of the caravan, Quinn peered out of the window. There was no building in sight, which meant only one explanation.“Get ready to fight, Bell.”The sounds of bullets echoed in the dawn of the day.“Even the guards we paid for are useless.”“Who would have thought we would meet renowned Mountain Bandits?”“We don't have anything, please spare our lives.”The merchants tried to beg but it was fruitless.“Shut up! We know what you are carrying in those things. Our informant would never mislead us. And if you think you can decieve us, be ready to die.” A burly man swung a sword, resting it on his shoulders. Then he chuckled, moving the stick he held in h

There was no moment to doubt.“Okay, thank you.” Quinn took the key and Vaughan stepped out of the dungeon. After that fight, it was like his mind had been rewired. There was no explanation for someone like him to be afraid of the Rodriguez family. The White Soldiers would do just fine without their sponsorship.Quinn opened the door of the cage and he walked out.“Bell. Can you hear me?”Quinn said the moment he stepped out of the cage.Bell materialised and gave him a nod.“I couldn't come out.”“It's fine. Let's get out of here.” Quinn said. The pathway through the dungeon was dark and the voices of guards echoed in every area.Bell pinched Quinn's sleeve as they hid in the corners.“You have something?” Quinn looked down, and then a black hole appeared under them.“Okay, let's do this.”With a nod, they fell into the dark hole.Quinn landed softly, and he looked around.“Bell. Where are you?”Darkness covered everywhere around him and for a moment, he thought he had gone blind.“H

“You see! It's exactly as my grandson said. He's using forbidden arts!” An elderly man stepped out from the crowd. The judge's face paled. This was the Patriarch of the Rodriguez Family. There was no way the judge could offend the second greatest family in the city, next to the king.“Patriarch, please, to what do we owe the honour of your visit.” The Judge rushed to Patriarch.Meanwhile Quinn dreaded what would happen after this. There was no way if this man was involved.“Damn it.” Quinn clenched his fists, and then he thought about bell.“Greeting me while planning to set me the culprit who made my son armless has to be some sort of joke.”“Patriarch….” The judge tried to explain.“You should also seize his summon! That thing cannot be allowed to roam free.” Another elder from the Rodriguez family stepped out.“As the family known for controlling multiple summons, it would be best to give us authority over it.” Another person said.It was plain obvious what the Rodriguez family wer

Sure, no problem!” Then he pointed back to Rhys, “Arrest him too or does noble blood mean he is permitted to commit attempted murder.” Quinn frowned.“Ask any one of them first, what he tried to do?”Captain Vaughan narrowed his eyes, then he turned around.“Anyone that can testify that Rhys tried to kill Quinn first should step forward this instant.”Quinn clenched his fists.“Guys. What are you doing? Weren't anyone there when that panther tried to do a killer move? Didn't you see?”However none of them answered. They all looked away.Vaughan chuckled. “As you can see, you have no witnesses or evidence.” He said, glaring at Quinn, before turning to his shoulders.“Seize him!”A black hole formed around both Vaughan and the soldiers who were coming forward.Quinn was the first person to notice this.“Bell. Stop it! You'd only make it worse.” He quickly said to her.He had thought she was resting until he saw the black hole. The
