Max did not immediately answer Chief Raul’s question.

He glanced at the chair in front of him, and Chief Raul immediately sat in it, right across from Max.

Max crossed his legs, leaning casually back in his chair.

Max gave a thin smile, but his eyes remained sharp.

“I’ve been accused of corruption, bribery, and... engaging in illegal activities.”

"That's why I'm here now," he continued.

Chief Raul was stunned, almost jumping out of his seat in shock.

How could this be?

Max was the one who had stabilized Morow State, played a significant role in the progress of the state, and now he was suddenly accused of such crimes?

It felt like a bomb exploding in his chest.

Chief Raul couldn’t fathom who could have orchestrated all of this.

For the past four years, under Max’s leadership, Morow State had risen from the darkness.

New schools had opened for children from poor families.

The rampant child trafficking had been eradicated, and dozens of missing children had been returned to their families.

Infrastructure was rebuilt with available funds, reaching every neglected corner of the state.

Healthcare for ordinary people had been improved, granting access they had never dreamed of before.

In terms of the economy, the prices were stable, production had increased, and even in a city like Adoona, known for its drug cartels, Max was respected.

Even the mayor of Adoona was deeply grateful to him.

Still shocked, Chief Raul spoke with a trembling voice.

“Mr. Max… how is this possible? You... you are the one who built Morow State.”

“You’ve given so much to this state. How could someone like you be accused of crimes?”

In the corner of the room, the two junior officers who had arrested Max stared at the scene with stunned expressions.

One of them whispered to his partner, just low enough not to be heard by Max.

“Did we arrest the wrong person?”

His partner, who had previously been so sure of himself, now appeared pale, cold sweat starting to form on his forehead.

“If he really isn’t guilty... we’re in big trouble,” he whispered again, his eyes glancing nervously at Max, who seemed unfazed.

Meanwhile, Max didn’t immediately respond.

He simply shrugged calmly.

“I didn’t come here to hear your defense.”

“I plan to go to Mount Arleth, before I’m imprisoned,” Max continued.

Chief Raul was silent for a moment, clearly shaken by the statement.

“Mount Arleth?” he repeated, his voice slightly trembling.

“That’s a dangerous area, Sir.”

Mount Arleth was the natural icon of Morow State, towering high with its peak always covered in snow, making it the highest point in the state.

The mountain had a far more somber and tense atmosphere, filled with chaos and instability, and countless deaths had occurred there.

It served as the natural border of Morow State from the Immortal Ravine to the north.

“Pardon…What’s the reason you’re going there, Sir?”

Chief Raul finally asked.

“That’s none of your business,” Max said briefly.

“I’m just telling you because, as of now, I’m considered a criminal.”

“So, to avoid being seen as fleeing,” he added.

Chief Raul took a long breath, weighing his decision.

“Then, let me accompany you, Mr. Max. At least let me ensure your safety.”

Max stood slowly.

“If you want to come long, then keep up, but I don’t need protection.”

He said coldly, then began to walk toward the door without waiting for a response.

Chief Raul quickly stood up too, his expression unreadable.

Behind him, the two uniformed officers remained silently, their heads bowed.

They didn’t dare to look directly at Max as he passed by them.

By now, Chief Raul had sharply realized what had just happened.

He suspected that it was someone from the governor's office who had reported Max.

He decided to do something about it now.

For Chief Raul, Max couldn’t be treated like this.

Morow State wouldn’t survive without his leadership.

Without Max, this state would return to the chaos, terror, and violence they had tried so hard to overcome.

Max was the foundation that supported this state.

Without him, everything would collapse!

With slightly trembling hands, Chief Raul grabbed his phone and immediately contacted Lieutenant Governor Avo.

“Mr. Avo,” he said in a heavy voice, “I’ve received a report about Mr. Max.”

“Do you know about it?”

“What?! How come? You mean the Governor himself might be behind all this? Has he gone crazy?”

Chief Raul took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

The voice on the other end of the line was faint, but the anger was clear, and Chief Raul listened attentively.

“Sure, I’ll try my best to keep Mr. Max safe. Thank you, Sir, for looking into this more thoroughly.”

After ending the call, Chief Raul quickened his pace to catch up with Max.

Lysa’s steps came to a halt when two tall, muscular bodyguards blocked her path. Their posture was straight, faces expressionless, like steel walls impossible to break through. Behind them, the same committee member who had stopped her earlier walked closer.“I already told you, Mr. Sayo will not help you. Do not push your luck,” the committee member said.Lysa met his gaze, unflinching. “I want to speak to him directly. Mr. Sayo will want to listen.”She raised her voice and called out, “Mr. Sayo!”From the front row, the middle-aged man turned his head. His eyes were sharp, slightly curious, then he stood and took a few steps forward.“What seems to be the problem?” he asked briefly. The committee member quickly explained, “This woman claims to know you, Sir… and is asking for help regarding her company.”Lysa looked straight into Sayo’s eyes. “Mr. Sayo, you must remember me. A week ago, I came to the business regulator’s office to register Ladder Corp for Level Two. You are the one

Meanwhile, in the city center, Ladder Corp’s growth under Lysa’s leadership had reached 60 percent of the target to break into the top five companies in Morow State. In just two weeks, Lysa had successfully overhauled the previously corrupt system, tightened supervision, and secured several important contracts.Today, Lysa was attending a charity business event that gathered many well-known CEOs and entrepreneurs. The building hosting the event was spacious, with crystal lights hanging from the high ceiling, reflecting their glow onto the grand main stage. In the middle of the hall, rows of neatly arranged seats were prepared for twenty companies registered in Lanua City. Each company had four seats reserved for its representatives. These twenty companies were divided into two tiers: Level One, for businesses whose quality and rating were deemed good in the eyes of the business regulator, and Level Two, for companies with mid-level quality and strong potential to rise in rank. After t

Aurora flinched at Max’s question. She quickly took a breath and answered in a defensive tone, “Well… I do not care about you. I just want to know.”Max did not respond. He simply walked past Aurora, heading toward the stairs with calm, steady steps.Aurora watched his back for a few seconds before deciding to follow him.“So… you are not hurt, right?” she asked again from behind.Max stayed silent.Aurora quickened her pace, now almost walking beside him. “Hey, I am serious. You are fine, right? No gunshot wounds, no hidden injuries?”The questions kept coming until Max finally stopped. He turned around, grabbed Aurora’s hand, and looked at her so closely that their noses almost touched. His sharp gaze locked onto her beautiful eyes without a single blink, making her breath catch for a moment.“Even if I were hurt,” Max said in a low, cold voice, “it would not be your business.”Aurora lifted her chin proudly, though her heart was beating wildly. “Well… but since you are the host her

Hearing Melly’s gentle refusal, Sayo only gave a slight nod, as if accepting her decision.“In that case, I’ll take my leave,” he said briefly.Melly stood up and walked him to the door with calm steps. She said nothing more, her expression still friendly, but clearly leaving no room for further persuasion.Once Sayo got into his black car and the door shut firmly, the smile on his face disappeared. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, then slammed it in frustration. The loud thud echoed inside the cabin. All this time, almost no one had ever dared to refuse his requests. Whatever he wanted, he got. But Melly, the woman he thought he could control, had rejected him.Sayo stared straight at the road ahead, his breathing heavy. Behind all the sweet words he had spoken earlier, his true intention was simple yet ambitious. He wanted Max to marry Sarah, his daughter, not out of love, and not for Sarah’s happiness. He wanted it for himself.Max was a figure whose name shone across

Sayo lowered his head slowly, gripping his teacup a little tighter.“I... I’m sorry, Melly,” he said, his voice soft and slightly trembling.“I’ve been very busy lately. But I haven’t forgotten anyone. When Hando passed away, I sent flowers.”He looked at Melly, trying to reassure her with a sincere gaze. “The sender’s name was mine. I wrote it personally.”Melly stared at Sayo for a moment. Her expression didn’t change, and the silence felt unusually long. Then, she slowly sipped her tea.Sayo gently set his cup down on the table, took a breath, and looked at Melly with a more serious expression.“Actually… I didn’t come here just to catch up, Melly,” he said carefully. “There’s something important I want to talk about.”Melly remained silent, her expression neutral as she looked at Sayo.Sayo continued, his voice sounding like he was carefully choosing each word to be as gentle as possible. “It’s about Max and Sarah.”He looked at Melly, trying to smile.“We used to joke about them

Somewhere Else...A black car slowly stopped in front of a large modern-colonial style house located on the outskirts of Lanua City. Surrounding the house were dozens of men dressed in all-black, standing tall with long rifles strapped across their chests. These weren’t ordinary security guards — their movements were sharp, their eyes sharp and alert.Sayo gently opened the car door and stepped out. His eyes scanned the area, filled with a mix of surprise and unease. He hadn’t expected the place to be guarded like a top-tier military base. One of the black-clad men approached. He was tall, with a strong posture, and his face betrayed no emotion at all.“What is your business here?” he asked coldly. “Do you have permission from Mr. Max?”Sayo swallowed hard.“I... I came to see Mrs. Melly. Max’s mother. We’re old friends,” he said quietly, a little nervous. The man didn’t respond right away. He stared at Sayo as if trying to scan for any hidden intentions behind the frail old man’s app
