Chapter 1
0001
In Morow State, Lanua City, at the Nexxon Villa.
“Mr. Maximillian Knight, you are under arrest for allegations of multiple crimes: embezzlement, bribery, and prostitution!” One of the police officer declared firmly, breaking the silence of the night. Max stood at the doorway of his luxurious villa, his eyes sharply fixed on the two officers dressed in dark blue uniforms who had just arrived. “Are you sure you’ve come to the right place?” Max asked coldly, suspecting they had the wrong person. His voice was flat, though he was inwardly puzzled. The taller officer, wearing sunglasses, held up a document. “We’ve received an official report implicating you in these serious crimes. We need to take you to the station for further investigation.” Max raised an eyebrow as he skimmed through the document. “I’ve increased this state’s GDP tenfold, reaching $20 trillion. Do you really think I would need to embezzle money or accept bribes?” As the future son-in-law of Governor Darrus Hayes, Max had devoted the last four years to transforming Morow State into a better place. With a strong vision and leadership, he had turned a state once plagued by chaos and crime into a safe and orderly region, making it a model of success for other states. The officer hesitated, momentarily doubtful. But he remained firm. “We can’t ignore this report, Mr. Max. We’re just following orders.” Max smirked cynically. His mind wandered to his past, wondering who might be behind this.Perhaps someone or a group threatened by the significant changes he had brought to this state.
He knew many people behind the scenes were unsettled by the progress he had achieved.“So, who reported me? Who’s scared to see me making Morow State better?”
Before the officers could answer, the sound of an approaching car interrupted them.
A Bugatti La Voiture Noire purred as it stopped in front of Nexxon Villa.
A driver stepped out of the front seat and quickly opened the back door.
With graceful movements, a woman stepped out of the car.
She wore a dark green dress that highlighted her silhouette.
Her long brown hair cascaded elegantly over her shoulders, and she slowly removed her large, stylish sunglasses with finesse.
She was Seraphina Hayes, Max’s fiancee.
“I was the one who reported you.”
She said and walked confidently toward Max, each step radiating undeniable class and elegance.
What?!
"Why?"
But then, Max suddenly realized the reason.
And a cynical smile formed on his lips.
His hard work in transforming Morow State for the better had now become a prize in a power struggle—a coveted gift for greedy politicians like the father of his fiancée.
Darrus Hayes had recently secured a landslide re-election victory.
His popularity soared, and he saw an opportunity to further solidify his position. Meanwhile, the success of Morow State, a product of Max’s hard work, was a threat to Darrus.Darrus wanted to claim that achievement as his own and ensure that Max would not be remembered as the key figure behind the state’s progress.
Seraphina stepped closer and sneered.
“Do you really think I would marry you? Stop dreaming!”
“My father plans to form a marriage alliance with a powerful family in the capital. He’s marrying me off to a young heir from a wealthy family.”
“That will strengthen his political position even further.”
She paused, observing Max’s unreadable reaction with disdain.
“And of course, our engagement will be annulled. We Hayes don’t ally with criminals.”
Understanding the situation, Max couldn’t hold back a cynical clap.
He chuckled bitterly, his voice low. “What a good plan! But without me, do you think your father can manage Morow State?”Expand

AN UNDERSTATED POWER 0152
The news of Max and Aurora’s marriage spread like a storm, cutting through every corner of Morow State. In the streets, on television, and in print, everyone spoke their names. But not everyone who heard the news celebrated. Many women who had long adored Max felt their hearts break into pieces. Behind prison bars, Seraphina went wild at the news. The woman who had once been Max’s political fiancée sat with tangled hair and wild eyes. Her manager came to bring the news, only to see her explode. “What did you say?” Seraphina’s voice was hoarse with disbelief. “He is going to marry... another woman?” Her manager could only nod. Seraphina’s scream tore out of her. She grabbed the bars and shook them like a woman losing her mind. “No! Impossible! He should be mine! Only mine! Not that cheap girl!” “MAX IS MINE!” Her hands clawed at her manager’s sleeve, nearly tearing it. “Free me! I do not care how! I have to get out! I will destroy that wedding with my own hands!” The guards on

The news of the marriage spread faster than fire across a dry field. All of Morow State buzzed with the revelation that Max, the national hero of Morow, would marry a girl with no noble title, no political lineage, just an ordinary citizen. The media ran with different headlines, some full of praise, others laced with hidden mockery. “A humble hero,” wrote one major newspaper. “Max chooses love, not power,” said another. On television screens, Aurora’s face was shown again and again, paired with Max’s cold gaze. For the common people, it was beautiful news, as if their hero had truly stepped down from the throne of war to touch the heart of an ordinary human. But for nobles and politicians, it was strange. A man as powerful as Max should have bound himself to a marriage of great houses, not to a girl with no background. Behind all the noise… Max now sat alone in his room. Small candles lined the floor around him, thin smoke from incense rose to the ceiling, forming a gray circ

AN UNDERSTATED POWER 0150
At Another place....At the foot of the mountain, the night air felt colder than usual. Thick fog descended, covering the narrow path rarely walked by humans. There, a simple stone house stood, as if adrift among the withered old trees. A man in a black suit stood at the door. His breath was heavy, cold sweat dampening his temples despite the bone-piercing chill. He bowed his head and knocked three times. The door creaked open with a heavy groan, and the strong scent of incense drifted out. Inside, an old man sat cross-legged. His face could not be seen clearly, hidden behind a mask of darkness that radiated a chilling aura, as if it swallowed the light of every candle around him. The man in the suit immediately fell to his knees, his body trembling. He bowed so low that his forehead touched the stone floor. “Master… all of our men in Lanua… they… they were slaughtered during the ritual.” His voice broke, filled with fear. “And the one who did it was—” Before he could finish, the

Aurora slowly released her embrace, her face still pale, but her eyes locked directly on Max. Her voice was soft yet carried weight. “What do you mean, Max? Don’t you already have a fiancée?” Max shook his head calmly, as if the question did not bother him at all. “I don’t have a fiancée.” Aurora was stunned, her brows furrowing. “Then… what about the woman named Sarah? She… she claimed to be your fiancée.” Max held her gaze. “Sarah is only a childhood friend. She is obsessed with becoming my wife, but that never happened. I never promised her anything.” Aurora felt her blood freeze. Her pale cheeks flushed, shame mixing with regret. Her breath trembled as she lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper. “So… the reason I ran away from your mansion… it was only because I thought I was ruining your relationship with Sarah… all of it was only my assumption?” Max did not answer. He gave a small laugh, finally understanding why Aurora had left his mansion. Aurora quickly grabbed h

Half an hour later… Max stood in front of the iron gate of the cult’s main headquarters in Lanua. After passing through rows of abandoned buildings, he had finally found this place. The strong smell of black incense filled the air, and the sound of chants echoed from within. Dozens of black candles burned around the altar, fresh blood dripping from offering bowls, forming a frightening pattern. In the center of the room, Master Sanuni stood with his face hidden in the flickering candlelight, a cold smile on his lips. "Ah… the cursed child of Lord Hades," Sanuni greeted Max with a raspy voice. "Your body will be cut apart, piece by piece, as an offering… to those who rule above us."Max only tilted his head left and right… crack, crack. The sound of his neck bones echoed, a warning sign. A symbol that he was not afraid.Sanuni raised his hand, and dark shadows slithered across the floor like snakes. Black flames spread around Max. "Fool, do you think coming here alone means you can f

Elsewhere… Master Sanuni sat in the main hall of the cult, his face hidden under the shadow of red candles. When the wooden crate that had just arrived was opened, the stench of rotten blood and decaying flesh immediately filled the room.Dozens of severed heads of his followers stared blankly, their half-open eyes seeming to challenge him, while blood dripped onto the rough floor. Among the chaos lay a piece of paper on top of the crate: “I am Max. Disciple of Lord Hades. You wanted war, you will have it.”“A head for a head.”Sanuni stared at the message for a moment, his eyes burning with both fury and awe. The table in front of him shattered with one strike, wooden splinters flying through the air. Yet behind the rage was a hidden acknowledgment that Max was far more dangerous than he had ever predicted.“He… is braver, sharper…” he muttered, swallowing his anger. “We must prepare the sealing ritual at once. He will come. And when that happens, nothing will be able to stop our po
