Zhang Wei whistled leisurely as he strolled into the Zhang Manor, holding a pouch in hand. After they left the academy, he and Liang Feixing took one pouch each, while the third pouch was kept by Liang Feixing for rainy days. As it was already late, they agreed to keep the dead snake till the next day.
He held the string of the pouch and twirled it as he walked past some of the servants. They wanted to bow in greeting at first, but when they saw that it was him, they simply strolled past him with a look of derision on their faces. But he was in a good mood after extorting all day and simply shook his head at how lowly the previous host was treated. As he approached the hut, he heard Luo Yu's loud cries and sniffles from inside, which made him frown. He entered and found her on her knees by his mother's bed, wiping her tears fiercely. His mother was also lying on the bed, unconscious, and her face was pale. "What happened?" He strode toward them, setting the pouch on the bed. It was only then that he noticed that Luo Yu was wiping his mother's mouth with a wet handkerchief. Once she heard his voice, she dropped the handkerchief on the floor and flew into his arms, crying. "Brother Wei..." Zhang Wei's brows furrowed tightly as he extricated himself and quickly approached his mother. He touched her pale face and found that it was chillingly cold. His face held a frown as he grabbed her wrist and checked her pulse. His expression turned even worse immediately, and he turned to Luo Yu. "Boil some ginger and peppermint leaves." "Brother Wei..." Luo Yu seemed doubtful and wanted to speak. But he was clearly not interested in what she had to say and yelled, "Right now!" Seeing his reaction, she instantly came to her senses and rushed off into the side kitchen to do as she was told. While she was gone, Zhang Wei held his mother's wrist and checked it again. His expression was still just as grave, but he seemed calmer, and he muttered to himself, "Choppy pulse, black blood, coldness, and erratic breathing. It's definitely an internal injury. Qi Deviation, maybe?" He looked at the woman lying motionless on the bed but still breathing with a strange look on her face. If it was really Qi Deviation, then it meant he had misjudged the woman. It meant that she was a cultivator, or had been in the past. But he didn't have much time to think about it because Luo Yu soon rushed inside with a bowl in hand. He collected it from her and confirmed what was in it. "Ginger and peppermint leaves?" If it was an internal injury issue, she couldn't just take anything, and any mistake could threaten her life. Luo Yu nodded and wanted to speak. "I boiled them. Brother Wei, I don't think..." She paused and sighed, "The physician said her condition can't be treated, and she can only take those suppressants. He also said that she shouldn't take just anything." Zhang Wei clicked his tongue at this. Sure, it was rather complex, but it wasn't untreatable. "Okay," he said to Luo Yu. "Help me lift her up." The girl still looked troubled but nodded anyway and lifted her head up while Zhang Wei fed her the drink in the bowl. Once she drank everything, they helped her back to the bed, and Luo Yu continued to sit beside her. It took about ten minutes before the ginger and peppermint leaves began to show any effect. But it was efficient, and her breathing got stable. Zhang Wei checked her pulse again and finally sighed, his expression getting much calmer. Luo Yu looked at him with widened eyes and twisted her fingers. "Will she be alright?" "Yes." Zhang Wei nodded, and almost immediately, Luo Yu burst into tears again, like a broken water pipe. Zhang Wei pursed his lips, seeing how relieved she was. He patted her head and consoled, "Don't cry. Tell me, what happened?" Luo Yu nodded and heaved, wiping her tears fiercely. "Mother's health relapsed, and she has been unconscious all evening. She kept vomiting blood, and I went to the Madam to collect the monthly suppressants for her, but she refused to give them to me." As she spoke, she burst into tears again, crying as she said derisively, "Those people from the main courtyard are so inhumane. Mother already stayed away from them, yet they are still so ruthless." Zhang Wei was silent, but a glint flashed past his eyes at her words, and he asked, "Didn't Fa..." He paused and rephrased his words, feeling uncomfortable calling Zhang Lei his father. "Didn't they promise to give her the monthly suppressants as long as she doesn't cause trouble?" "Yes." Luo Yu nodded. "Brother Wei, what do we do? If Mother doesn't get those suppressants soon, who knows..." "It will be fine." Zhang Wei sighed and held her shoulders. He then stood up and said, "Watch her closely, and if anything happens, find me immediately. I'll be right back." "Where are you going, Brother Wei?" Zhang Wei paused. She stared at him with worry in her teary eyes. He grunted, "Just wait. I'll be right back." Before she could say another word, he turned and left the hut, heading for the main courtyard. The host's memory of the area was limited as he wasn't allowed to stay around, but after going around once, he soon found the Master's room. As he approached, his gaze grew cold. He let the fact that the host was ignored by his father because he was an illegitimate slide. But what he would not ignore was both Zhang Lei and his Madam playing with someone's life. Not to mention that he had promised the host to take care of his mother. He had wanted to take things easy and learn more about the family before he figured out what to do with the stepbrothers who killed the host, and now this had happened. He hadn't even settled one score, and they dared to do another.

Zhang Wei looked at the innumerable faces around him, stupefied. They were all tied up in groups of twos and three like them. Before he could grasp the situation, he heard someone mutter, “Damn… this little bastard was also brought here. Serves you right!” The voice was rather familiar, so he looked over and saw that it was his stepbrother, Zhang Ming. When he saw Zhang Wei looking over, he snorted, “What are you looking at!?” “Who are these bastards kidnapping everyone,” He continued swearing. “When is that arrogant little shit, Zhang Jun going to be brought here? They better bring him, too. Fuck, I’m so angry!” As he spoke, he continued to kick his legs angrily, straining the person who was tied together with him. When Zhang Wei looked over, he saw that it was the fatty, Zhang Nie who was being dragged along with him and was clearly fed up. “Second Brother… stop moving. I can’t breathe.” “Shut up!” Zhang Ming barked at him and then, continued to grumble. It was a rather comical

Just then, they heard him yell loudly from behind them, "Fuck, run!" The two glanced at the figure cloaked in black that was about to launch an attack at them and instantly made a run for it, following the route Zhang Wei took. "Fuck, who was that!?" Huang Zhen bellowed. "He doesn't seem to be chasing after us," Liang Feixing suddenly chimed in as he looked back. The figure was no longer behind them and it was like he didn't appear in the first place. They stopped running for a moment to look. But just then, they noticed that another figure cloaked in black attacked the two boys coming from the side. "They're not targeting us specifically." Liaang Feixing observed. "Then, what do they want!?" "Who knows?" Zhang Wei responded. "They're not basic level martial artists. Let's not stay to find out how strong they are." "Okay." And so, they began to run through the thickets, witnessing as several other contestants were being attacked left and right. It was rather chaotic and th

It was Huang Zhen. "Zhang Wei, are you ready to leave too? Come over and ride along with me." He waved excitedly. Zhang Wei was surprised to see him, but he nodded and approached him. Chen Lan and her kids stood there watching as Zhang Wei entered the big carriage and soon disappeared from sight. It was only after they were gone that Zhang Ming peeped from the carriage and murmured, "Mother, is that not the Huang family's peony insignia on the carriage. How did that... that little bastard knows someone from the Huang family?" Chen Lan was still surprised, but she soon composed herself. "How can that be? Even your father has to go through a friend to meet the Huang family elder. How can someone like him know anyone from there?" Zhang Ming seemed to think her words feasible and nodded. "Maybe I saw it wrongly." "Yes..okay hurry up and get going now. You have to get to the boundary before noon." In the carriage, Zhang Wei gave a small anicker seeing their reactions before resting

Once he barged in, the two people inside looked alarmed to see him. Zhang Lei coughed, seeing that he had been caught while his mother looked restless and worried."Wei'er," she called out. "Come, your father wants to talk to you."Zhang Wei eyed the man seated on the high chair while his mother sat on the floor. "We have nothing to talk about."She looked restless and tried to persuade, "Your father said it will be dangerous for you to go to that place. You don't have any cultivation. What if...""That was what he told you?" Zhang Wei scoffed, glancing at Zhang Lei. "You sure are rather leisurely spinning fear into the heart of a weak woman, 'Father.'"This time, the word 'father' was rather fluid to say albeit it was full of sarcasm."What nonsense are you talking about?" Zhang Lei was about to yell at him.But Zhang Wei paid him no heed and reached out to help his mother from the futon before turning to Zhang Lei. "Tomorrow is the trial day, and you can't sit still anymore, can yo

The rope lifted them, trapping them to the branch of a very tall tree. Several loud noises also accompanied their movement, and it came from a couple of iron bells that were tied together at the bottom of the snare trap.Zhang Wei looked down dumbfounded. "Well, what a new perspective this is.""What... what's going on?" Huang Zhen cried out in alarm and grabbed Zhang Wei's arm."We are trapped," Zhang Wei muttered calmly once he was over his initial speechlessness. "Your leg caught a snare trap, and we were pulled upside down by it.""Oh. How do we get down from here?" Huang Zhen asked offhandedly, trying to calm down. But when he tried to look down, he realized how tall they were hung and screamed. Zhang Wei chuckled at his reaction but tried to dig his hand into his sleeve. "I think I still have my knife here. I'll cut the rope off and jump down."But due to their posture, he was unable to reach in and could only turn to Huang Zhen, who was scared out of his wits beside him. "Hel

They all thought he was going to attack them immediately, and even Huang Zhen frowned, turning to ask them, "Do you know him?"Liang Feixing nodded and whispered, "We ripped him off before and took away his clients. He must be here for revenge.""..." Huang Zhen was speechless.Zhang Wei stepped forward and stared at Quan Che's neck. "How is your neck now?" But he recalled something and chuckled, "Why am I even asking? You wouldn't be standing here like this if you weren't fine."His words only seemed to fuel Quan Che's anger, and he gritted his teeth angrily. "Shut up! If it weren't for you...""But I gave you the antidote," Zhang Wei retorted. Quan Che was furious. Was that an antidote or a neck massage that left his neck sore for three days? Zhang Wei laughed, seeing the look on his face, and snorted, "So what are you here for? To get back at us? Can you handle the three of us alone?"Quan Che's gaze flickered as he stared at the three of them. He was to meet up with his group th
