A lady walked up to the podium with a stern look on her face, making everyone quiet in the hall. She stopped and stared at our faces before she switched on the computer in front of her.
"I am Felicia Hookman, the leader of the councillors." She looked at her computer and backs to our faces. "Most of you know me and most of you don't. Let's keep it that way cause we don't want familiarity to be the cause of failure. I hate failures. We are the councillors and are the best in everything we do. I wouldn't let anyone spoil the reputation we have built over the years. Everyone of you should work hard and be the best cause that's what we are." she said earning an applaud and cheers from the crowd.
I am the best at what I do, I am a councillor.
"This test will determine which department you belong to. We have so many department at the councils. Some lawyers, some administrators ex cetera. Each department has their head and everyone should be respectful towards them, they have the right to make you an Outcast when disrespected." she sighed, "With this said, let the test begin." she took her computer and left the podium proudly, giving way for a man to walk up to the podium. He called a name and the young person was led to a room.
"That man looks like a monkey." the girl beside me whispered, laughing to herself.
I looked at her and back to the man standing beside the test room. "I wouldn't say completely, but he does look like one a bit."
She chuckled lightly. "I wasn't wrong....... I am Lalisa." she said extending her hand for an handshake.
"Aurora." I said and shook her hand.
"You must be the Aurora everyone are talking about. The one who fainted at the selection time." I looked at her and raised a brow. She smiled and said, "Everyone are talking about it...... How are you feeling now?"
I gave her a light smile. "Better, and this time I won't faint again." Surprisingly, everyone are talking about me now but that wasn't bothersome as I accomplished what made me to lose consciousness at the selection time. I wasn't detected to be a freedite.
"Aurora Lee...."
My name was called next. Hearing my name, my heart skipped a beat. It's my turn and I don't know what will be my end there, in that room. I stood up nervously and took in a deep breathe.
"Aurora you can do this. You passed the most crucial day and today wouldn't be the day I will get caught." I told myself and headed towards the test room.
I was taken into the white room with bright light and a chair at the middle with some computers and devices I haven't seen before. What are they going to do to me? What kind of test will this be?
"Seat on the chair and focus on the light in front of you." a lady, dressed in a white robe said. From the looks of it, I can tell she is an Erudite. A doctor or a scientist.
I nodded and slowly walked nervously towards the chair. My steps weren't steady as I drew closer, praying a miracle would happen that will help me out of my situation.
"Don't be nervous, it won't hurt." she said, noticing my nervousness. I gave her a light smile and sat on the chair.
"Focus on the light." she said and I did. The bright light stone in my eyes but I dared not look away as she warned me it might damage my sight if I look away without her command. The light was blinding and my eyes hurt, with tears flowing down my eyes on their own accord. Please let this end soon. My head spin as I felt my soul been taken away from my body.
"Close your eyes." she commanded.
I did close my eyes and I felt everything moving around me non stop. It was sickening and made me nauseous and dizzy. It was taking forever to end.
Suddenly, everything went quiet and still.
"Aurora." I heard her voice. Slowly I opened my eyes and gasped. I wasn't in the room anymore but a different place. The floor has black and white tiles and the wall was painted white.
"You are in a room. A room with black and white tiles. You have to make your way out to pass the first test. You need to put your talent as a Council member at work here. If you don't get out in the next ten minutes, you will vanish from there and your career will be over. Good luck." she said and the timer was set.
"Ok Aurora, you can do this. You can survive through this. My career is on the line and I need to do my best." I told myself and looked round me.
The room was empty. If the time was set for me to leave here in ten minutes, then that means there is something that would stop me from moving further. But what is that thing. Could it be the tiles? The tiles are black and white.
I bent down and touched a tiles but nothing happened. If it isn't the tiles, then the wall.
I touched the wall but nothing happened. This is tricky.
Maybe there is no obstacle but they just wanted to see how fast I reason. That must be it, they are testing my patience and the way I think.
I smiled and looked at the camera. "Life is not always the way it seems like. I can't leave the room. There is no escape door here. I can only leave when you want me to. Patience is the key." I said out loud.
Immediately I did, I appeared in a different room. Two women were at the middle and a diamond was placed on a table beside them.
"You are in a room with two women who had a heated argument....... They were walking together on a street. One of them suddenly screamed and pointed at the floor, 'Hey there is a diamond on the floor.' she said. The second woman saw it and picked it up. Now, the two of them want the highest share, what will you do? Who will take the highest?" She asked.Obviously, the one who saw it should take the highest, but I smell something fishy here. The councils wouldn't ask a question this easy.My father once told me that, the councils are cunning people, they only take what benefits them and they favor those who are ready to walk with them. As simple as the question sounds, I know there is a cunning answer behind it. But what is that answer? Think Aurora.I clicked my tongue when an idea came to me. "You said a diamond?" I looked at the two of them. "You found the diamond on the floor. On Sirenna's ground. The diamond isn't for any of you, it's Sirenna's treasure. But since you two
Aurora povI walked into the house and searched for my father with my eyes, but he wasn't in the living room. The empty room created a space in my heart. If only my mother was alive, she would have been happy.Father told me that mother has always wanted to be a councillor but she was a freedite and it was impossible. I remembered the day my father told me about my mother. I had no memory of her and only know how she looks like through the pendant she gave me.That night when dad and I were watching a movie, I had asked dad why we freedites were called evil. Why we were called miscreants. He told me the freedites had all the talent and were special born people. The other groups were angry at that and saw them as threats. They brought the proposal to the supreme lords and it was approved. The freedites were known as villains. Even a new born child.I picked my shoe and headed towards my room but stop when father came out of his room. He smiled at me but I sense it was a forced smile. H
AUTHOR POVThe three girls sat by the sea shore looking at the bright stars pinpoint on the sky like many diamonds, radiating it beauty reflecting itself on the sea.It was a beautiful sight to behold, as the two girls laid their head on Aurora's shoulders. Aurora smiled sweetly as she took in a deep breath, perceiving the scent of water, sand and a sweet scent she couldn't identify. The sea is her favorite place in Sirenna as it beauty is something she wishes to see all the time. The stars were reflecting on the sea making it look like the sky was divided and they were at the middle. "Aurora..." Elena called in a tiny voice, with her eyes closed. "Hmmm?" "Will earth ever be restored again?"Aurora looked up at the sky and took in a deep breath again. Will Earth ever be restored again? It's being more than five hundred years now and the earth still remain in it ruins. She looked at the sea and her eyes sparkled with the stars. "Maybe one day it will. B
AURORA POVI came out of the cab and paid the driver. The big headquarters of the Councils was staring right in front of me. I was in the place I have dreamt of my whole life. I adjusted my bag and sighed. "Here I go." I said and walked into the building. My mouth tell opened seeing the inside. The people were all dressed corporately. It was more than I expected.A lady walked to me and held my hand. I immediately recognize her as Lalisa, the girl I saw at the city hall. She smiled at me. "What department are you in?" "The lawyer's department." "Great, we are in the same department." she smiled widely. "We are to go to the lawyer's head office and we will be assigned to a senior lawyer who we will work under." she said and dragged me towards the office. We entered the room and bowed to the woman there who I perceived is the lawyer's head. "Good day ma'am." Lalisa said with a smile. She sure has a lot of energy. "We are new lawyers and were told
AUTHOR'S POVMary walked into the council's president office and bowed at her. Felicia looked up from her computer and pointed to a seat. "Take a seat." Mary bowed slightly and sat down. "What about the girl?" "I assigned her to the most lazy lawyer, Mr. Davidson. They hardly solve a case and because of that, have a pile of case file in the office. I am sure they will make her do the work because she is the only woman among them and they hate working with women." "Good, let me in on everything she does, how successful she is and how quick she is to solve a case. And tell Mr. Davidson to give her the hardest cases. Their is something special about that girl."AURORA POVI packed the papers into a box and carried it out of the office, heading for the library where it will be kept. I made sure to clean up the office not leaving a single paper. The lawyers are sure messy. The library was at the third floor. Unfortunately, the elevator was under maintenance so I ha
I picked up the new and old case and went to seat down. The first case. 'Carrey Moreno, a young eighteen years old teenager who was beaten to death by her step mother. Her case was opened but closed after the father told the court his daughter died a natural death and was not maltreated at all. Now the case is being reopened again.'I read out the second case. 'Daniel Lunch, a forty years old man who was found in his apartment with knife stabs and multiple injuries. This is a new case.'I moved my hand across my hair, confused on what to do. I don't even know what to do now or who to meet. I can't meet that Lalisa girl as not all lawyers are allowed to enter any senior office without being invited.I placed my head in the table thinking of what to do to save my ass. I can't even come up with an idea. "Read the case, understand it. If it's an old file, study it. Write down everything about it, witnesses, evidence and so on. Don't miss out a single detail." one of the lawyer, wh
At the early hours of the night.........The head lawyer was allowed into the office of the president, as she was recognized to be close with the President. Mary walked into the office and bowed at the president. "Stop that now, we are alone here." Juanita said. Mary smiled and sat down. "My sister have being so busy with work lately that I have forgotten she is my sister and not just the president." "Sorry baby sis, had a lot of work to do."Mary nodded with a smile. "No problem, I am a busy woman too."The two women are step-sisters and have been close to each other ever since they met. The two were more like twin sisters, as they were very close to each other. Work got the two of them busy that they hardly had time for each other so found it difficult to maintain their relationship. "Let's go get a drink later and calm our brains down from work." Juanita suggested which Mary approved of as it was the best idea to get together again. Juanita leaned cl
A young and handsome blonde man walked into the president office with his hands in his pocket and a lopsided smile on his face. The president rolled her eyes and sighed in exasperation seeing him walk like that without even a knock and without showing a bit of respect by removing his hand from his pocket, but the young man cared less. His shirt was unbuttoned to the third button revealing his chest and the tattoos drawn on him. He had the perfect look of a crazy Mafia. He sat down and crossed his legs on her table. The president did not say a word. She looked at the vice president who was wondering who the young man is to have entered the president office dressed the way he did. But a gasp escaped his lip when he remembered the familiar face. One of the commander of the armies. Who wouldn't know the crazy Hamilton. Everyone talks about him. "Vice president excuse us please." She said. The vice president left. "Dylan what's the meaning of this behavior?" She asked. He
