Wisest new councillor

"You are in a room with two women who had a heated argument....... They were walking together on a street. One of them suddenly screamed and pointed at the floor, 'Hey there is a diamond on the floor.' she said. The second woman saw it and picked it up. Now, the two of them want the highest share, what will you do? Who will take the highest?" She asked.

Obviously, the one who saw it should take the highest, but I smell something fishy here. The councils wouldn't ask a question this easy.

My father once told me that, the councils are cunning people, they only take what benefits them and they favor those who are ready to walk with them. As simple as the question sounds, I know there is a cunning answer behind it. But what is that answer? Think Aurora.

I clicked my tongue when an idea came to me.

"You said a diamond?" I looked at the two of them. "You found the diamond on the floor. On Sirenna's ground. The diamond isn't for any of you, it's Sirenna's treasure. But since you two were the ones who discovered it, some shares will be given to you. To the one who saw it, you were the one who discovered it. Without your eyes, the other citizen won't see it and we won't know about it. To the one who picked it up, you only acted according to the words of the first citizen. So the first should receive the highest of the shared part and the rest should go to the council where it truly belong." I said.

A bright light stoned on me forcing me to close my eyes. After a few minutes, I opened my eyes and caught the Erudite staring at me. I was back in the room.

I looked around heaving a sigh of relief. Did I pass the test? Am I an Outcast or still a council member?

"Did I pass?" I asked staring back at the lady whose eyes were still on me, not blinking away.

She stared at me for a while not saying a word which only got me confused. What did I do wrong?

"You pass......" she suddenly replied and a wave of relief rushed through my system. I passed. I did it. I am still a councillor.

"Welcome to the council, you were chosen as a lawyer."

"Huh?" Lawyer? That have been my dream job. The heavens heard me and gave me what I want ever since I was a kid.

I smiled at her and stood up, "I won't disappoint my new group." This is a dream come true for me.

Phew, a lawyer. I smiled at her again and left the room.

AUTHOR POV

The erudite looked at the camera stationed in her room and nodded at the watcher, giving a message to the person watching everything through the camera.

Felicia who was the person watching from the computer rested her hands on her knuckles, and looked away, absentmindedly. She had watched everything in the computer and even saw the places every new councillor was taken to. The girl Aurora seems to be a special girl. Unlike everyone, she gave the answer unexpected of an inexperienced councillor.

She picked up her telephone and dialed a number. The receiver on the other end, answered the call at the third ring. "Mary, let's meet in my office." she said and dropped the phone. She sent a message to the Erudite and left the room.

She drove down to the council building and parked her car in the parking lot, and was welcomed by the security men who were there in the parking lot.

Felicia have been the president of the councillors for five years now, and during those years she has learnt a lot. A lot to survive. Ever groups are not as they seem, they are not the peaceful, respectful people the average citizens sees them as. Every group are fighting for the best. No one want to be left behind and looked down on, and for that, they do anything to remain at the top. Once a group isn't producing good results, the other groups will regard them as losers. The rulers will regard them as a useless group that produces nothing good from them.

The new girl showed a sign she haven't seen before and Felicia knew she will have to keep her cause she will be the asset the councillors need to go back to be the best and the most respectful groups, taking their formal position and glory from the Staunchers. All the years she have spent as a leader, she have never seen an inexperienced new girl answer a simple question in a way that makes it look hard and needs more logic. She channeled the reward back to the councils. The young girl is cunning. She will have to try her more and see to what extent she can think about a difficult case.

She entered her office and the woman waiting for her bowed, "Welcome ma'am."

Felicia waved her hand at her and sat down. "I am not here for some chit-chat as I still need to go back to the town hall."

"What you have to tell me most be something important seeing you here when the test is still ongoing." Mary asked.

Felicia brought out a file from her bag and placed it before Mary, staring at her. Mary raised a brow wondering what the file was about, especially when she saw the youngster name written on it. "This is a new councillor file...... Why do you have it?"

"Mary, this girl......" she tapped her fingers on the file, "She might be the one who the heavens sent to us to bring back our lost glory."

        "How do you mean?"

"She is the wisest new councillor I have ever come across to, and I am sure she has what it takes. But we need to test her ability more." A corner of her lips raised, "You know what to do."

Mary nodded and bowed her head, "Yes ma'am." with a smile, she left the office.
