The words cut through the air like a blade.

The voice that said it did not shout.

The sum of five billion dollars was said in an almost bored tone, as if the speaker had been waiting all night just to drop it like a casual remark over dinner.

“Then let them use them,” Sophia shot back, her chin raised, her voice vibrating with fury. “I won’t be held hostage by cowards in masks.”A ripple of tension passed through the room. Even the other shoppers hiding were shocked at their defiance. The leader’s stance shifted, his entire body going rigid. Slowly, he lifted his rifle until the cold black muzzle hovered inches from Sophia’s forehead.“Sit down on the floor,” he said, his voice a low, dangerous growl, “or I’ll put a bullet in your fucking skull right now.”The room seemed to shrink around them. Sarah let out a sharp gasp and lunged forward, grabbing her daughter’s arm.“Sophia, please,” Sarah pleaded, her voice cracking under the weight of terror. “I am begging you… I don’t want to lose a child today. Do as they say.”But Sophia didn’t move. Not even a flinch. Her eyes locked on the leader’s masked face, unwavering, as though daring him to pull the trigger.Malvin stepped forward. “Sophia, please… just sit. It’s not worth

Sarah’s eyes went wide in horror. She had feared that her daughter would try to do something like this. Growing up Sophia was the type not to back down from any fight she did not care if her enemy was stronger or dangerous she would never back down. But that bravery was not so useful now. “Sophia- no!” She reached to pull her daughter down, but Sophia shook her off. “Keep your mouth shut!” Elena hissed, grabbing her arm. But Sophia’s defiance only burned hotter. Elena was a talkative but she knew when to keep quiet. “Touch a single hair on my head,” she said, her voice low and lethal, “and I swear… I will wipe out every last member of your family.” Her words fell like shards of glass into the air between them. The leader froze for a beat, then threw his head back and laughed — a deep, mocking sound that echoed in the tense silence. Slowly, he stepped forward, his boots clicking against the marble until he loomed over her. In one sharp motion, his gloved hand gripped her chi

Sarah’s face lit up at the words, her hands clasping in delight. “Aww, so caring,” she murmured.Sophia, on the other hand, almost recoiled. The warmth in his tone felt… heavy. But she was raised to be polite, therefore she let out a polite smile. “Good to see you too. And… sorry for the other day. Adrian admitted he made a mistake — it was all a misunderstanding.”Malvin’s expression remained calm, but his eyes glimmered. “Of course." He said with fake sincerity, like he did not pay the bartender to spike the drink. “Because there’s no way I would try to poison anyone. I’m not that kind of person.” His gaze held hers. “I was right from the very beginning.”Sophia blinked, the weight of his words sitting uneasily between them. Sophia drew a breath, forcing her voice to stay steady.See how they were arguing over her like she was some commodity meant to be shipped off to one man.“I can’t even remember when I said I was interested in marrying anyone.”Elena’s eyes flickered with mischief. She leaned back slightly, arms folded. She did not need to say anything, from the way she stares at Adrian, the way she smiles excitedly when he replies to her texts, she did not need a soothsayer to tell her the truth.“Oh, please,” she said, the smirk tugging at her lips. “You don’t have to say it. Some things are written all over your face.”Sophia’s jaw tightened.
