The tires of Abel Scott’s bike screeched the asphalt on the hospital parking lot. His knuckles were filled with bruises and a fresh cut stung his cheeks from his duel with Obadiah Simons.

“She is awake, her sight is back” The nurse's voice echoed in Abel Scott’s head as he bolted through the hospital door.

“Ward C, fourth floor, room 205, right?” Abel Scott asked the receptionist, ignoring the ache in his ribs.

“Yes, Room 205” the receptionist stammered, but he had gone before she could say anything more, His boots hammered on the hospital floor, his leather jacket dripping rain.

“Sorry!” Abel said, dodging a nurse pushing a cart.

The fluorescent light buzzed but his focus was fixed on the nurses voice “She can see again”

“Sarah can see.” Abel Scott muttered repeatedly, “Lisa’s plan didn’t work!?” A sense of relief lacing his voice, he clenched his fist as he reminisced more about Obadiah Simons confession.

Abel Scott took the stairs, skipping two or three steps in a hurry, and burst into Room 205.

“Sarah!?” Abel whispered.

Sarah sat up in bed, her hair loose, and her eyes bright and seeing. She looked her eyes onto Abel Scott and her smile lost momentum when she saw his face.

“Darling, your face! Your arms; what happened?” She asked, stretching her hands towards him.

Mr Zach Lawrence lounged in a chair close to Elena bedside, Elens sat up too smirking by the wall. Mr Alfred Jackson stood near the windows, crossing his arms.

But Abel Scott only saw Sarah.

He stepped to her bedside, “It’s nothing, Sarah” He said, forcing a grin.

“I took a day job gardening for some rich man.” He said, taking her hands. “I just wanted to gain some money to help our family and take some burden off Mr Schmidt,”

“So I got roughed up moving equipment as I’m not used to that kind of work.” He added.

Abel Scott's heart stung as he lied, “I wish I could just tell you about the bar, the blood and your cousin Lisa's wicked plans” He said within himself.

Elena snorted, she weakly brushed her braids aside. “Gardening?” Mtcheww. That’s the only job you can get hired for.” Her eyes gleamed with mockery.

Sarah rolled her eyes in disbelief, she grabbed Abel’s hand, her fingers grazing his bruised knuckles. She winced. “A gardening job? That’s nice darling.”

“You did tell me about your interview, how did it go?”

Abel Scott squeezed her hands, dodging her gaze “Sarah, my job interview is of no importance now; you are awake and you can see” His voice softened, but his jaw tightened, Lisa’s name throbbing through his mind. “That is all that matters”

Mr Zach Lawrence chuckled, kicking his chair back, “Abel, you look like you fought with a hedge trimmer.”

“Our Sarah is back, so smile already” He added.

Elena looked up, her gaze narrowing. “Yes, smile, Abel. Or are you mad that Sarah is now seeing again?”

Abel Scott fist twitched. Visualizing a few strokes of punches landing on Obadiah simons face.

“Be careful, Elena” He growled, low enough that only he could hear it. “One day, I will shut your mouth up with a clip.”

Mr  Alfred Jackson cleared his throat, stepping forward, "Actually there is bigger news. Mr Schmidt called earlier. He is offering Sarah a new position. He wants her to be the CEO of his investment company.”

Sarah's eyes widened, her hand tightening on Abel’s hands. “CEO? Me?” She looked around the room confused.

“I have only worked as an assistant my whole life in my grandma's firm.” She added

“What do I know about being a CEO?” Sarah looked at Mr Alfred stunned.

Mr Zach Lawrence bolted from his seat, smiling from ear to ear. “Oh my God! Sarah, you are going to be running the show now! Mr Schmidt's firm is massive!”

“You are going to be overseeing millions in deals” He added excitedly.

Elena Lawrence smiled slowly. “That’s our girl, moving up the ladder, leaving some dead weight behind in the gardens.” She shot Abel Scott a pointed look, dripping venom.

“It seems not everybody is happy though. Some people are just standing there. No joy. No cheer. They cannot handle their wives outdoing them.”

Abel Scott blood boiled, “I am happy for her” his voice betraying the irritation he feels inside. “Always am.”

Sarah studied him, “ darling, you are so quiet, are you okay?”

Abel Scott leaned down, kissed her forehead, his bruised lips grazing her flesh. “ I am fine, Sarah, you are going to crush it as a CEO, I trust you.” His voice was soft.

Sarah pulled Abel Scott closer “you’re hiding something from, I can feel it.”

Abel Scott smiled slightly, “No, darling there’s nothing I would hide from you.” His words were warm but his mind raced to Lisa, the mansion burning, his parents murder, Lord Ammon vandel.

He has to move soon.
