The apartment was not like the mansion but it was comfortable. Cracked sidewalks snaked through weedy grass. Most of the building's paint was falling apart and sagging roofs moving like they were tired of standing. A rusting mini van with two Missing wheels sat as a permanent fixture beside the curb.

The sun peeped through the windows of the apartment casting golden stripes on the little desk that now serves as desk and dinner for Abel Scott and his family at the apartment. He stares blankly into the laptop screen sitting comfortably on the desk as he prepares his resume.

“What are you doing, darling?” Sarah Lawrence asked, running her fingers through Abel Scott’s hair.

“I’m preparing a resume and cover letter for my application.” Abel Scott said.

“Wow that’s amazing, babe!” Sarah Lawrence was elated. She bent over to plant a kiss on Abel Scott's cheeks.

“What role are you applying for, darling?” Sarah Lawrence enquired.

“I’m writing to express my interest in the Warehouse Supervisor position at Westgrove Distributors.” Abel Scott said.

“Mtchew, is this what job hunting looks like?” Elena Lawrence snapped from the couch.

“Cover letter? Resume? Who do you think will be willing to hire someone like you? Westgrove distributors?” Elena scoffed.

“Is it the same Westgrove distributors? One of the foremost distribution and logistics companies in the country with operations in over 220 countries in the world?”

“Is that the company you think would accept you? A lazy and cowardly man like you Abel?” Elena Lawrence let out a loud laugh.

“Please, don’t get me started this morning” Elena Lawrence continued laughing

Abel Scott stared at Elena Lawrence, swallowed hard and said nothing.

“Mum, at least he is trying,” Sarah Lawrence said in Abel Scott's defense, rubbing her hands on his shoulder as if to comfort him.

“Is this what trying looks like?”

“Typing and typing, moving from one point to another? Will typing put food on the table? Or pay him salaries?” Elena continued.

Abel Scott stood slowly, closed his laptop and moved towards the balcony.

“Yes, run, that is all you can do, coward”

“I am fed up and tired of this young man!” Elena Lawrence wailed.

“Mum, that’s enough” Sarah Lawrence said, placing her arms on her hips.

“Sarah, you deserve better than a man who brings nothing but silence and sorrow to your doorstep.” Elena Lawrence shot back.

The morning sun met Abel Scott with a quiet warmth as he stepped into the balcony but it could not burn the sting he felt in his heart.

“How can this woman be so hateful?” Abel Scott questioned himself.

“It is not like she’s even doing any job herself.” Abel Scott mutters under his breath and shakes his head.

“She has a roof over her head because of me. Her husband and daughter are well because of me. She is just a dumb classist” Abel Scott fumed silently.

“Look at Mr Schmidt, I’m sure he’s the same age as Abel Scott but here he is doing all this good work.”

Abel Scott could still hear Elena Lawrence rumbling and spitting venomous words and Sarah defending him but he said nothing. He had a bigger fish to fry.

He had to move through his grand plan quickly.

“I have to get into lord Ammon vandel space real quick” Abel Scott thought to himself.

“If he has found out about my existence and has begun to attack me, I need to fast track my plans on avenging my parents death” Abel Scott continued as he rested his hands on the balcony rails.

“Nobody deserves to die like that” Abel Scott tears begin to stream down his eyes.

“Darling, it’s going to be okay” Sarah’s voice echoed through the pain and hurtful thoughts going on in Abel Scott's heart as he reminisced on his parents death.

“I know dear,” Abel Scott responded, letting out a joyful smile.

“I know it will be okay because I have you by my side.” Abel Scott said as he held her hands.

A soft ding echoed from his phone. Abel Scott looked down on it.  A new notification flashed across his screen. It was a message from Mr Jackson Alfred. He tapped it quickly without thinking. His eyes scanned the message for some good news.

“Good day Lord Abel Scott, We have found evidence linking some gangs to the burning of the mansion. What do you want us to do about it?”

“Send me their details, you will get a response from me soon” Abel Scott typed on his phone.

A soft ding echoed again, it contained a link to the information Abel Scott about the gang.

“What!?” Abel Scott's thought to himself, his eyes were opened wide with the information that stared him in the face.

”What is it dear?” Sarah Lawrence asked, sensing a shift in his mood.

“It’s nothing dear,” Abel Scott responded as switched his phone off and placed it carefully into his pockets. He wrapped his arms around Sarah Lawrence.

“It’s some old friends of mine that need a reminder”

My favorite” Abel Scott said, dragging the chair to sit down.
