Chapter 13: After the Done Delivery

The pod launched straight into the infinity of space, hurling at the asteroid belt.

A sense of relief took over their bodies, and the two of them couldn’t stop smiling at each other.

“I told you the escape pod was our Pokeball,” Ethan said jokingly to the Captain.

However, before the Captain could even say anything, the ship shook once again.

They weren’t out of the woods yet, and they still had to take the ship to a safe place if they wanted to stay alive.

Aside from that, it seemed that Chronna struggled even more as she tried to keep the ship in line.

Ethan and Captain Smith made their way into the cockpit. They were plunging towards the asteroid belt, and there was nothing Chronna could do about it at this point.

“Ethan! Come with me. I have to go to the engine compartment to manually start the booster engine. I couldn’t do it before because of the salamander, but now I can do it!” The Captain assured Ethan.

The three of them exchanged glances, and the Captain went on his way with Ethan.

Before long, Chronna felt a jolt of power, and she could see the ship drifting away from the asteroid belt. All she had to do was to steer it right into Cloud Atlas.

As they landed on Cloud Atlas, they looked like they fought a war.

Upon landing, they were greeted by the Time Keeper, who had greeted them with a smile as Ethan gave him his briefcase back with a wink.

“Now, Captain, time for business,” Ethan remarked, taking out his portable 6d printer to print out the clock pizza that the Captain ordered.

“Oh my, I thought I would never get to have my pizza. Thank you, Ethan, thank you Chronna, I wouldn’t be alive right now and eating this pizza without you.” The Captain said with a tone laced with genuine gratitude. He then accepted the pizza that Ethan had given him.

“Another done delivery,” Ethan grinned before he added, “See you again sometime, Captain.”

“You two should be heading back now if you want to escape the wrath of the time police,” the Time Keeper reminded them.

“Yeah, let’s get out of here,” Chronna added. She already had enough of that day and wanted to rest as soon as possible.

Ethan nodded before he brought out his portal generator. He then blasted both of them back to their base.

They both knew, as they stepped into the portal and looked back at the Captain and his grateful crew looking back at them, that, once the portal closes, they would be forgotten forever.

Their last pizza delivery trip had pumped so much adrenaline into both Chronna and Ethan’s systems.

Even though they looked somewhat fine when they talked to the Cloud Atlas Time Keeper, they were really exhausted. They were even still panting when they reached the MDWD.

Damn, that was not really part of my job description, Ethan muttered to himself.

When they arrived at their destination, they were greeted by an angry Watt.

I think it was also not part of my job description to be Watt’s venting machine, noh? Ethan continued to complain silently as he already knew what would come next.

Of course, Ethan also knew he would have to face Watt as soon as he got back, but there was nothing else he could do.

“Do you know how risky it was for you two to do what you did?” Watt asked Ethan angrily. He was even crossing his arms over his chest.

Neither Ethan nor Chronna said anything in reply, and they kept their eyes down, knowing they really had endangered themselves and the MDWD as well on that mission.

Watt released a sigh. He then massaged his temples before he said sternly, “Fine. I will let this go this time. At least you saved Cloud Atlas.”

He then patted Ethan on the shoulder. “I don’t know how you do it, boy, but because of you, a lot of dimensions in quite a few timelines still exist,” Watt said, assuring Ethan.

“Thank you, Watt, it means a lot coming from you,” Ethan replied as he let out a sigh of relief.

Chronna did the same too. Watt didn’t make a big deal out of Ethan calling him Watt this time.

He simply nodded and headed off to tend to other businesses.

“I need a shower,” Chronna said while smelling her hair.

“Yeah, so do I,” Ethan replied, smelling his shirt.

They had a little time to clean themselves up and grab something to eat as there were no pending pizza orders just yet.

So, the two-headed off to the living quarters of the Irregulars that were in the MDWD area.

The MDWD picked up Irregulars like Ethan from all over time, space, and dimensions.

There were currently hundreds of Irregulars living in the compound.

These Irregulars weren't there doing anything. Each Irregular came from a distinct background.

Each one of the Irregulars that lived there had been assigned different essential jobs that they must carry on to make sure the different timelines and dimensions could operate efficiently without any of them being destroyed.

There were a few irregulars that worked as inter-dimensional mailmen there, some worked as lawyers, and countless other services as well, such as inter-dimensional travel and so on.

Each time an Irregular would enter the MDWD, a new living space would be brought into existence for him or her to live in.

The living quarters of the Irregulars weren't far from the inter-dimensional space police station, and it made it easier for the IDSP to keep their eyes close to the Irregulars because if one of the Irregulars decided to do something they weren’t supposed to, an entire timeline could be destroyed because of it.

Taking their leave from Watt, Ethan and Chronna made their way towards their living quarters.

The adventure they just went through left them absolutely exhausted and bruised.

They had to get some rest.

The black sky was now filled with colorful lights, sparkling from the countless stars, planets, galaxies, and nebulas that surrounded the MDWD.

Unlike the Earth J1114, where Chronna was from, there’s no atmosphere there surrounding the skies.

From where they were now, one could see the entire universe in all its glory, unfiltered.

Of course, Chronna had never seen anything like that in her entire lifetime. She was just a simple girl living in France, just living her life just a few hours ago.

Now the only thing she could recall was meeting Ethan and the adventure she’d been on with him.

It astonished her. The more she thought about it, she realized that she didn’t know who these creatures were. Whether they were really telling her the truth or not, and if anything was even real or not.

She lost herself while thinking to herself, looking at the black yet colorful sky, the kind of sky no mortal or “regulars” could ever see.

Ethan noticed Chronna drifting away into the majestic sight of the sky.

“In such a short time, you’ve done more than anyone could have expected from you,” Ethan suddenly said as he walked alongside Chronna.
