Chapter 6: A Debt Unseen
Julian stared at her, confused. She didn’t look or act like someone with no home. Her skin was fair, her features delicate, and she carried herself with a quiet grace that spoke of good upbringing. She was clearly educated, refined. This wasn't adding up.
Seeing the doubt on his face, Iris let out a bitter sigh. The embarrassment of her situation washed over her, but she was too tired to lie.
“I used to be someone,” she confessed, her voice quiet. “I was the CEO of a company. Lumina Tech.” She said the name with a mix of pride and pain. “We were preparing for our IPO. We were so close. But then… we failed. The investors pulled all their money out. I lost everything. The company, my savings… even my apartment.”
Julian’s mind that was always sharp and analytical, immediately began to connect the dots. Lumina Tech. The name was familiar. He had personally fast-tracked Vivian’s company, Crestwave, through the exclusive VIP channel to ensure its successful public listing. The process was ruthless and competitive. He remembered now! Oh, he remembered that Lumina Tech had been right in front of Crestwave in the queue.
A delay in an IPO could be a setback, but it shouldn’t cause a total collapse. Something didn’t fit. His eyes, sharp and perceptive, flickered over to his subordinate, Nathan who was standing by the door. He saw the man nervously wipe a bead of sweat from his temple.
And in that moment, Julian understood everything.
A cold anger began to grow in his chest. It wasn't just bad luck. His own people, in their overzealous desire to please him and ensure Crestwave’s flawless victory, hadn't just smoothed the path. They had bulldozed it. They must have used his name and power to forcibly remove every company ahead of Vivian’s, including Iris’s. They had destroyed her life’s work as a mere stepping stone.
The irony was…so shocking. The empire he built for one woman had unknowingly crushed the woman in front of him.
He shot to his feet so suddenly that Iris flinched. The air in the room grew heavy and cold. He didn't shout. He didn't need to. He took two slow steps toward Nathan, his presence alone feeling so damn heavy to Nathan as he was already shaking.
“Excuse me, Miss,” he said to the woman, and excused himself, left staring at Nathan who before the gesture and immediately followed him out of the room.
“Nathan,” Julian said, his voice dangerously low, a quiet rumble of thunder before a storm. Every word was sharp and clear, leaving no room for misunderstanding. “Tell me you did not destroy that woman’s company just to clear a path for Crestwave.”
Nathan paled, his head bowing. “Sir, we only meant to ensure there were no delays for Mrs. Ho...”
“Enough.” The single word cut through the air like a whip. Julian's eyes were as cold as ice blocks. The gentle, patient man was gone, replaced by the king of the business world. “You listen to me, and you listen well. You will undo this. You will restore Lumina Tech’s IPO eligibility. You will contact every investor and make it clear that my office supports their renewed funding. You will put everything back the way it was. Not tomorrow. Now.” He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper. “I don’t care what it costs. I don’t care who you have to call. Fix it. Do you understand me?”
Nathan could only nod, his body trembling. “Yes, sir. Immediately, sir.” He nearly ran from the room, pulling out his phone.
The force of Julian’s anger left a stunned silence in its wake. He took a deep breath, forcing the cold mask to soften as he turned back into the room to meet Iris. To anyone who had seen him with Nathan and right now with Iris, the shift was so scary. This man changed faster than a chameleon. The terrifying billionaire was gone, replaced by a man who looked… guilty.
“It seems,” he said, his tone awkward, as if he wasn't used to apologizing, “that the failure of your company was… my fault.”
Iris’s eyes widened in shock. “Your fault? How?”
“I have a… a company of my own. My people were overeager in helping a… a colleague.” He couldn’t bring himself to say ‘wife’. “They went too far. They destroyed your business to help hers.” He ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. “I am truly sorry.”
Iris was speechless. The random act of cruelty that had ruined her life suddenly had a source. and that source was standing in front of her, not being proud about it but apologizing. The anger she had carried for months felt so wrong now.
Seeing her confusion, Julian continued, his voice gentler, scratching the back of his neck. “Look, I have a vacant property. It's a townhouse. It’s just sitting empty. You can stay there. For as long as you need.” It was more a command than an offer, but his eyes held a genuine plea.
Iris shook her head firmly. “No. Absolutely not. You saved my life last night. That’s more than enough. I can’t accept a house from you. We’re practically strangers.”
“We’re not strangers,” he said, a strange intensity in his gaze. “And this isn’t charity. It’s… responsibility. My actions, directly or not, left you with nothing. The house is empty. It’s a waste of space. Let it be useful.” He saw her still hesitating, her pride fighting with her desperation. He decided for her. “I’m taking you there myself.”
He strode toward the door, not looking back, leaving no room for argument.
Iris stood frozen, confused as many thoughts flashes through her mind. The doctor, who had been quietly observing, gave her a small, encouraging smile. “It’s okay, miss. You should go. You need a safe place to rest and recover.”

Unless...."Unless..."She's was also drunk herself," Vivian answered herself, almost like she was trying so hard to convince herself that Celeste meant good, and would never harbor bad intentions. "Knowing how much she loved he sleep, she must have jumped at any offer to go home..."Victor stood there, still not responding to her. After a few seconds, he reached out and collected his phone from the table nearby. Before he could say or do anything... Vivian's phone started ringing. It came the second time. And again. And again. The Morning After

It was more of the feeling that her head was split open into two equal halves, and stitched right back carelessly. Her throat was extremely dry, her body very weak, too sluggish to stand up. It even affected her thoughts, because she found out they were disorganized. She frowned, wondering why she couldn't do a single thing right, her brows tightening right back, before she slowly opened her eyes The first thing she noticed; the ceiling above was unfamiliar. It was white, minimal, and at same time quiet. To quiet for her liking. Vivian blinked the second time, doing her best to adjust her vision. She turned by her side, and nothing looked familiar. The room was well sir conditioned, but with a faint scent of an awful cologne. Her heart skipped immediately as it dawned on her; it wasn't her

Chapter 60The Hidden Clause The penthouse office had some serious business going on inside it, while the rain carelessly traced lines on the glass walls. Julian stood quietly with his hands in his pockets, his posture showing someone that is relaxed, and unbothered by things happening around him. Across him, a man in his forties flipped with precision through a folder that has thick covers. It was more like he had been doing paper work for decades, and never missed details. "This is way worse than we assumed it to be."His name was Damian Rowe, a vet quiet and surgical man, though he's entirely new to Julian's circle, but his reputation precedes him. It was known that he had once singlehandedly built a reputation for a falling organization, and that was done from the inside, and still, no ear heard about it. He didn't come out to make a fuss,

He wasn't expecting anyone to be around, let alone Vivian been the one to meet him in such condition. He hates to be vulnerable around people, especially those he's pretending to be unbreakable to. To him, it was more like someone had just pressed the violent button in a movie scene. Gradually, his fingers relaxed as he tried to accept the reality of Vivian catching him in such state. He tried to retreat the monster which he just demonstrated behind a mask of his perfect smile, but it looked more like an impossible act. In a split second, Vivian had already taken mental note of the disaster before her. From the shattered glasses on the floor, to the documents shredded in pieces, even dorn to the broken screen that screamed for mercy. "Who exactly are you becoming?" She asked him the moment she found her voice. Lucas stood the
