The Bloodline Awakening

The harsh midday sun beat down on the cracked concrete pavements of Sector 7. Ethan kept his head low, his hands buried deep inside his tattered jacket pockets as he wove through the crowded industrial backalleys, away from the glittering skyscrapers of the central district.

To the rest of the world, he was just another failed candidate. In a society governed by raw magical resonance, an unranked dud had no rights, no prospects, and no future beyond backbreaking labor in the scrap yards.

Let them look down on me, Ethan thought, his jaw tightening. The higher they sit on their pedestals, the harder they’ll fall.

He climbed the rusted iron fire escape to his dilapidated apartment complex, slipping inside his ten-square-meter concrete room and throwing the deadbolt shut. He dragged a heavy wooden dresser in front of the door, completely sealing himself off from the outside world.

Sitting cross-legged on the threadbare mattress, Ethan exhaled a steady breath and focused his intent inward.

INVENTORY

Primordial Bloodline Awakening Serum (Grade: Mythic)

Effect: Cleanses mortal impurities, shatters core dormancy, and awakens the ancestral bloodline of the Primordial Devourer.

Warning: Process causes extreme cellular restructuring. High risk of agony.

Ethan didn’t hesitate for a single second. In his past life, he had endured the agony of having his bones splintered and his flesh torn to ribbons by Abyssal beasts while being abandoned in the dirt. No physical pain from a potion could ever compare to the burning rot of powerlessness.

"Extract serum," he commanded quietly.

A heavy glass vial materialised into his palm, glowing with a deep, viscous crimson liquid that swirled like a miniature galaxy. The air in the tiny room instantly grew heavy, vibrating with a suffocating, ancient pressure.

Uncorking the vial, Ethan tipped it back and swallowed the entire draught in a single gulp.

The liquid burned like liquid tungsten down his throat.

CRACK!

Ethan’s eyes snapped wide as every blood vessel in his body felt as though it had been set ablaze with dragon’s fire. His muscles locked rigid. A blinding agony ripped through his skeletal structure as micro-fractures spread across his bones, instantly healing and reforming into a dense, steel-like density.

Black, foul-smelling impurities oozed from every pore of his skin, pushed out by the violent expansion of his latent channels.

Inside his solar plexus, the dormant, petrified mana core—the very core the academy proctors had labeled permanently dead—cracked down the center. But instead of shattering into dust, a brilliant, terrifying violet-black flame erupted from within the fracture.

GAAAH!

Ethan clenched his teeth so hard a bead of blood traced down his lip, refusing to let a single scream escape into the thin walls of the apartment block. He endured the torment second by second, feeling his soul expand and mold around the roaring abyss inside his chest.

BLOODLINE INTEGRATION: 100%

Dormant Core completely destroyed. Replaced with: PRIMORDIAL ABYSSAL CORE.

Host has awakened the unique class: PRIMORDIAL MONARCH.

Strength +20, Agility +20, Endurance +20, Mana +100!

The burning sensation abruptly vanished, replaced by an intoxicating wave of absolute vitality and boundless energy. Ethan took a deep breath, his senses snapping open with terrifying clarity.

Through the concrete walls, he could hear the faint scuttling of roaches three floors below. He could hear the rapid heartbeat of a stray dog fifty meters down the alley.

Ethan stood up. The air around him distorted with faint ripples of dark energy.

He looked at his floating system status, his remaining 50 free stat points from the arena quest ready to be deployed.

Ethan clenched his right fist. A dense sheath of black mana wrapped around his knuckles, crackling with pitch-black lightning.

A standard E-rank hunter possessed an average strength stat of 20. An elite D-rank vanguard usually peaked around 45.

At Level 2, without a single dungeon raid under his belt, Ethan's raw physical power had already blown past the limits of professional hunters.

A dark, cold grin spread across his face as he looked out the grime coated window toward the towering outer walls of Sector 7. Beyond those perimeter gates lay the monster infested wasteland of the Grey Zone where unranked duds were forbidden to step, and where the rich guilds kept all the low-tier hunting grounds for themselves.

"Time to start hunting," Ethan murmured.
