The Grey Zone Infiltration

The perimeter wall of Sector 7 rose eighty meters into the twilight sky a jagged barrier of reinforced titanium and anti monster defense turrets. Beyond it lay the Grey Zone: a scorched expanse of ruins, toxic swamps, and low tier monster dens.

For ordinary unranked citizens, approaching the perimeter gate without an official Guild Hunting Permit carried a summary execution sentence. But Ethan had spent a decade navigating these desolate alleys in his past life. He knew every blind spot in the sector’s security grid, every unmonitored drainage channel, and every forgotten sewer outlet that bypassed the automated sensors.

Dressed in a dark hooded jacket with a heavy combat knife tucked into his utility belt, Ethan slipped down a rusted iron grate behind an abandoned sewage treatment facility. The foul air was thick with the stench of stagnant water and decaying waste, but his newly enhanced senses filtered the discomfort effortlessly.

He moved through the submerged tunnels with fluid, soundless agility.

Within twenty minutes, Ethan pushed open a fractured drainage pipe and emerged into the cool night air outside the wall.

The Grey Zone stretched before him a desolate graveyard of collapsed skyscrapers overrun by twisted vegetation and pulsating violet flora. The distant, guttural howls of nocturnal beasts echoed across the shattered highway.

Ethan crouched behind a rusted truck chassis and activated his new passive skill.

"Sovereign's Sight."

His vision shifted instantly. The dark ruins were suddenly overlaid with faint glowing currents of thermal and mana energy. Weak red auras flickered in the distance, exposing beast positions through concrete rubble and overgrown brush.

TARGET DETECTED

Name: Iron-Fanged Shadow Hound (F-Rank Beast)

Level: 3

HP: 350 / 350

Vulnerabilities: Exposed neck artery, core junction behind left shoulder blade.

Mana Resonance: Weak Earth / Shadow

Thirty meters ahead, a quadrupedal beast prowled through the skeletal frame of a collapsed storefront. It stood nearly five feet tall at the shoulder, covered in coarse charcoal fur and metallic jagged fangs dripping with acidic saliva.

In his past life, encountering an Iron-Fanged Hound would have meant certain death for a scavenger like Ethan. Even standard F-rank hunter squads required three members with iron shields and ranged fire support to bring one down without casualties.

Ethan's fingers coiled around the hilt of his knife. His heartbeat remained eerily calm, resting at forty beats per minute.

Fifty three strength. Forty seven agility.

Let’s see what the Primordial Monarch can do.

Ethan pushed off the cracked asphalt.

BOOM!

The concrete beneath his boots fractured under the explosive kinetic release. He moved like a dark phantom, closing thirty meters in less than a second.

The Shadow Hound barely registered the shift in the air before Ethan materialized directly in its blind spot. The beast let out a startled, snarling shriek, whipping its massive iron jaws around to snap Ethan’s torso in half.

Ethan didn't bother dodging. He activated his active skill.

"Devourer's Grasp."

A vortex of pitch-black mana erupted around Ethan’s right hand, condensing into razor-sharp abyssal claws. He thrust his bare left arm straight into the beast's snapping maw.

CRUNCH!

The hound’s metallic teeth slammed into Ethan’s forearm only to shatter like cheap porcelain against his reinforced bone density.

Before the beast could even register the shock, Ethan drove his right hand straight through its throat. His pitch-black mana flared, ripping through flesh, muscle, and spinal column with terrifying ease.

The hound went limp instantly, crashing heavily onto the asphalt.

A warm stream of pure physical essence flowed from the dead beast’s chest straight into Ethan’s palm, integrating directly into his musculature. His fatigue vanished instantly, replaced by a surge of refined power.

Ethan withdrew his blood-stained hand, staring down at the carcass with a cold, predatory gleam in his eyes.

"One kill. Two permanent stat points and an absorbed passive."

He looked deeper into the dark ruins of the Grey Zone, where dozens of red auras flickered in the mist.

"Tonight, I feast."
