The dim back room of the Rusty Vault grew uncomfortably cold.

Gary stared in stunned disbelief as Ethan casually balanced the massive Abyssal Cleaver in one hand. The dwarven weapon broker rubbed his single eye, leaning forward to inspect the boy's footing. There was no mana flare, no runic activation, and no visible strain in Ethan's forearm. Just pure, unadulterated physical leverage holding up two hundred pounds of dense void-bone steel as if it were a wooden practice sword.

"Kid..." Gary swallowed hard, his voice gravelly. "That piece has sat in that corner for three years. Last guy who tried to lift it was an active D-rank vanguard from the Iron Vanguard squad, and he tore two rotator cuffs trying to get it level. You’re telling me you’re taking that beast?"

"Sixty thousand credits and this blade," Ethan said evenly, resting the flat of the blackened steel on his shoulder. "That was the deal."

"Fine by me," Gary muttered, quickly pulling up his terminal to register the trade before the mysterious youth changed his mind. "Consider it yours. Just don't swing it inside my shop, or the ceiling's coming down."

Ethan transferred the funds, took the encrypted dark chip containing the remaining balance, and wrapped the oversized greatsword in a coarse canvas tarp. Slinging the bundle over his back, he exited through the heavy reinforced rear door, melting into the shadows of the subterranean market.

Walking through the damp alleys beneath Sector 7, Ethan channeled a thin thread of his Primordial mana into the canvas wrap.

BZZT.

A soft, resonant hum vibrated against his spine.

[WEAPON SYNC DETECTED: Abyssal Cleaver (Sealed - Rank D)]

Compatibility: 94% (Void & Primordial Affinity)

Status: First Seal active.

Requirements Met: Strength > 60.

Bound Effect: +25 Attack Power. Weapon weight increases kinetic impact by 35% on downward strikes.

Passive Awakening: Soul Thirst (Devours 10% of residual death essence from slain targets to accelerate weapon unsealing).

A faint prick of pain touched Ethan’s fingertips as tiny tendrils of black energy sank into his flesh, binding the weapon's consciousness to his soul. The heavy cleaver suddenly felt as light as a feather on his back, balancing naturally against his center of gravity.

With this, my lethality triples, Ethan thought, his eyes narrowing under his hood. No standard beast hide below C-Rank will be able to deflect this edge.

Instead of returning to his cramped apartment, Ethan turned his steps toward the northern edge of the lower district the abandoned rail yards bordering the Sector 6 rift buffer.

In his past life, two weeks after the Awakening Ceremony, a minor disaster had struck the outskirts of Sector 7. A hidden dungeon portal an uncatalogued E-Rank Void Crevasse had ruptured silently in the rail depot, spewing dozens of mutated beast packs into the unprotected worker dormitories.

The Sunfire Guild had deliberately delayed their response by twelve hours, waiting until the casualties mounted so they could step in as "heroic saviors" and buy up the ruined real estate at rock-bottom prices.

Not this time.

Ethan scaled the rusted perimeter fence of the rail yards, dropping soundlessly onto the crushed gravel between the abandoned train tracks. The night air was thick with the smell of ozone and damp iron.

He activated Sovereign's Sight.

Immediately, the darkness peeled away. About three hundred meters ahead, beneath the collapsed roof of an old locomotive repair hangar, the atmospheric mana was swirling into a violent, localized vortex. A jagged, pulsing tear in space roughly ten feet wide hovered three feet above the ground, bleeding dark crimson and violet light into the surrounding air.

[UNSTABLE RIFT DETECTED]

Type: Void Crevasse (Rank E - Dungeon)

Status: Approaching Rupture (Estimated time to overflow: 03:45:12)

Dominant Beast Type: Abyssal Chitterers & Shadow Fiends

Boss Entity Detected: Mutated Void Dread-Stalker (Rank E+)

Ethan pulled the canvas wrap off the Abyssal Cleaver. The jet-black blade seemed to drink in the ambient crimson glow of the rift, its jagged edges humming with quiet hunger.

"Three hours before the rupture," Ethan whispered, stepping toward the portal with slow, deliberate strides. "More than enough time to clear every single beast inside and claim the core before the Sunfire Guild even realizes it exists."

Without a second thought, Ethan plunged directly into the shimmering vortex.
