As they both walked back into the mansion, Gale loosened his collar as he stepped into the living room, his once-confident posture slowly unraveling. Laura followed behind him, her heels stomping furiously against the floor until she stopped and spun toward him.

“What. The. Hell. Was that?” she seethed.

Gale didn’t answer immediately. He poured himself another glass of drink, his hands slightly shaking now—either from anger or disbelief, maybe both.

“I asked you a question, Gale!” Laura snapped. “How is he alive? How is he standing there, dressed like that, with a lawyer and some Amazon warrior girl by his side, threatening us like we’re squatters in our own damn house?”

Gale slammed the wine glass down on the table, the sharp crack of the crystal on wood making her flinch.

“I don’t know!” he growled. “I don’t know how he managed to survive. I don’t know who that woman is. And I don’t know how the hell he got a lawyer—a damn good one, by the way—but what I do know is that he wasn’t su

Leah’s throat was raw from screaming. Her voice had grown hoarse, but still she hadn’t stopped. For hours she had cried, banged her fists on the cold steel door, and yelled until her lungs burned. But it seems no one heard her cries. Her eyes were swollen and red, streaks of tears staining her cheeks. She sat slumped against the wall now, hugging her knees tightly to her chest, rocking herself slightly back and forth like a frightened child. The tiny barred window near the ceiling let in little light. The sun was up. Morning. She had survived the night, but only barely. Her trembling fingers brushed across her arms as she whispered to herself. “Please… please, Aunt Kate, Scott… somebody… just find me. Please…”But no answer came. Her thoughts drifted as her tears dried. Why me? she asked herself over and over again. She had no enemies. Who would go to such lengths to kidnap her?It had to be a mistake. Maybe the kidnappers meant to take someone else. Maybe they had confused her ident

VICTOR KANE'S HOUSE Victor Kane sat in his leather armchair, a glass of brandy rested in his hand, the deep amber liquid swirling slowly as he tipped it back and forth. The silence of the room was broken by the faint creak of the door. Silas stepped in quietly and bowed his head respectfully. “Boss,” Silas said, his tone low and steady. “It’s done.”Victor’s eyes lifted from his glass to the man before him. Slowly, a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Not the warm smile of satisfaction, but the dark, satisfied curl of a man who had been waiting for this moment for far too long.He set the glass down on the table beside him and leaned forward, clasping his hands together. “Is that so?” His voice was deceptively calm.Silas nodded once, firmly. “Just as you instructed. Every step carried out to the letter. The girl is secured.”Victor chuckled under his breath, leaning back again, his eyes gleaming with something vicious. “Good. Very good. For years I have waited for this. For ye

Leah stirred slowly, her mind struggling to push through the heavy fog that clung to it. A low groan escaped her lips as her eyelids fluttered open, but the effort alone felt like lifting a mountain. Her head pounded with a dull, relentless ache, and her throat was dry as though she hadn’t had a sip of water in days.“Arggh!!!” She groaned again. The first thing she noticed was the smell—stale air mixed with the faint, damp scent of concrete walls. And the floor beneath her was cold. She blinked hard, forcing her eyes to focus. The room had little lighting and Shadows stretched along the walls making the small space feel even more suffocating. Her chest tightened as realization dawned on her. This wasn’t her bed. This wasn’t Aunt Kate’s house. This wasn’t anywhere she recognized. Her breath quickened. “Wha—where… where am I?” she whispered hoarsely, her voice sounding foreign to her own ears. She tried to sit up, but the moment she pushed against the ground, she felt a sharp pain in

AUNT KATE'S HOUSE The streets were eerily quiet when Scott’s car pulled up in front of Aunt Kate’s house. He pushed the door open and stepped out quickly, his long strides carrying him toward the house. The moment he knocked on the door, it swung open before he could even lower his hand. There stood Aunt Kate. Her eyes were swollen and red, her cheeks wet with tears. The sight of her nearly broke Scott’s composure, but before he could even speak, she rushed forward and threw herself into his arms.“Oh, Scott!” she cried, clutching at his shirt like a lifeline. Her body shook with sobs, and her voice cracked with every word. “She’s gone! She’s really gone! What do we do? What do I do?!”Scott’s arms came around her instinctively, holding her tightly. He could feel how frail and trembling she was. For a moment, his own throat closed up and his heart hammered wildly, but he forced himself to stay steady. One of them had to be calm, and right now, that responsibility fell on him.“Aunt K

SCOTT'S GUEST HOUSE Scott slumped into the leather armchair in his living room, his tie already discarded and the first few buttons of his shirt undone. Every muscle in his body was aching with exhaustion. The entire day at the office had been draining. Meetings had stretched longer than they should have, proposals had piled up on his desk, and endless discussions about the transition of the company’s new name had kept him engaged from morning till night. Although his mind sometimes kept drifting back to what Cara had told him earlier about Lisa. The thought of her locked inside, under watch, and unable to move freely, filled him with an anger he couldn’t shake. He tried to shake it off, forcing himself to focus on his own exhaustion. He rose from the chair, stripped off his shirt, and walked into the bathroom. By the time he stepped out, a towel wrapped around his waist, he felt only slightly better. He dried off, pulled on a fresh shirt, and let himself collapse onto the bed. The

AUNT KATE'S HOUSE Aunt Kate sat in her living room, her body sinking into the couch like she had been glued there. Her shoes were already tossed carelessly at the foot of the sofa, her stockings wrinkled around her ankles. She let out a long sigh, her shoulders rising and falling heavily.“Lord have mercy,” she muttered, rubbing her calves slowly with her hands. “I’m not as young as I used to be. Standing all day in that shop… I feel like my bones are begging for retirement.”She chuckled weakly at her own words, though exhaustion was clear in her voice. Her hair, usually pinned tightly in a bun during working hours, now hung loosely over her shoulders, strands sticking out after a long day.“Leah better hurry and get back,” she continued mumbling to herself. “She’s the one with all the energy. Young blood. She can stay in that bakery till midnight and not complain. Me? I need my bed.”With that, Aunt Kate dragged herself off the couch and trudged into the bathroom. The sound of run
