CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
NYXAR DOMINION, CONTROL ROOMSolvyn stood in a hidden chamber watching as Reza adjusted and tampered with the portal system, specifically singling out Theon and tapping level twelve. Theon’s bracelet flashed red at the spot, and he disappeared from the platform where other kids were waiting to be taken. Reza's lip turned up in a wicked smirk. He looked left, right, backwards, before finally sneaking out. Solvyn chuckled and shook his head. A woman dressed in a black assasin’s gear beside him had her brows furrowed. She was holding a brown sword in hand, watching beside Solvyn. Numerous block shaped crystals were on the wall, showing various levels of the monster realm. Solvyn directed a string of energy to that of level twelve, making the blank large middle crystal light up, showing clearly every part of level twelve. Levels one to three were packed with students, who were in groups, hunting monsters, and surrounding them. Easy victory. For groups that had a reasonable degree of
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
Theon twirled the short sword between his fingers, the hilt slick with sweat from his palm. His heart hammered against his ribs like a war drum. One wrong step and the desert would become his burial plot. “System, hurry up. Where’s the weakest spot?” No answer came. A few meters away, the hecephalus was already moving. Dust exploded under its weight as it lunged, tusk gleaming like bone in the sun. Theon pivoted, spear snapping up to meet it. Metal screamed against tusk. A sharp ching cracked through the dry air and the impact jarred up his arms, rattling his teeth. The force shoved him back. Sand dragged under his boots, carving two deep furrows as he skidded to a halt ten feet away. His lungs burned. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the spear spinning. It twisted mid-air, a silver blur, and drove straight into the hecephalus’s throat. Blood followed it out in a dark, steaming arc when the weapon flew back into his palm, pulling life essence with it like a thirsty thing. “Awo
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
The desert sun was baking hot, turning the air into something dry and sandy, scraping the lungs with each inhale. Hooves thundered against the sun baked grounds, screeches followed, alongside a powerful wave of dust rising like a miasma. Theon's heart pounded raggedly against his ribs as he waited for their approach. “System, show me the rewards you issued for the second mission.” Beep! A blue panel appeared before him. Theon's eyes ran over them, barely understanding a thing. He simply tapped on a short sword and a black cape. The short black sword appeared in his free left hand, while the cape affixed itself to his shoulders. “Awooo!” The first monster landed before him. The ground shook the moment the beast landed before him, kicking up clouds of dust and debris. Theon swirled the spear in his grasp. The spear weighed at least fifty kilograms, but in his hands, he was handling it like some irrelevant toy. His eyes scanned the beast. “Hecephalus!” It was a b
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
The moment Theon opened his eyes, he knew instantly that his current location was wrong. He was in the middle of a large desert. Rocks jutted from brown sand like broken teeth. Heat shimmered off the ground in waves. There wasn’t another human in sight. No disciples. No sound, except the wind dragging sand across stone. “Aren’t I supposed to have been sent to the outer first ring’s grasslands? Why am I here?” He turned in a slow circle, eyes sweeping the horizon. “This place appears to be level seven desert.” “No, you’re wrong,” the system chipped in, voice flat and clinical. “This is the level twelve desert, the one used by higher ranked inner court disciples for trials.” Theon’s heart skipped multiple beats. This wasn’t the level seven desert but that of level twelve? Which meant he was in the twelfth ring of the captured monster realm. In this place, even a level three soul formation master would find it hard to survive. The toxic air itself would try to kill him. [Re
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
Dusk moon peak The estate was located behind Lolite peak, among the lands and areas Archmage Mavis controlled, where some of his higher ranked inner court disciples were given residences. Jareth didn't qualify for this honor. He still had his room in Ascension court. However, because he was the archmage’s favorite, a courtyard was spared for him where he sometimes stayed. The residence was all his own, along with a small servants quarters attached. The Dusk moon peak had better access to energy required for cultivation and absorption. It was the inner court after all. Jareth often stayed there when he was trying to break through a new tier or bridge. He has been staying here for days ever since he got injured. Currently, he was sitting sulky on a garden chair, face staring blankly at the trees. His arms and feet were wrapped up. Although they'd been burned into place, it still ached and required fragile care. His face was sulky, mouth pouty. According to the timing, the m
CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
Theon’s gaze moved between the five boys. He knew perfectly well what was going through their minds. If a chicken suddenly woke up in the morning and began to chase you, the most logical thing to do was run with all your might. Because you didn’t know if the chicken suddenly grew poisonous fangs at night. And right now, he was that chicken. “If you’re scared, you can leave,” his voice was flat. “It’s almost time for the monster hunt.” “Shut up, you trash,” one roared and lunged at him, fists extending with aegis crackling around the knuckles. Theon chuckled darkly as the boy approached. With his movement technique, he shifted like a phantom. One moment he was there, the next his boots aimed for the boy’s leg with quiet precision. His fingers also formed claws simultaneously, slashing the boy’s side. They tore through uniform and skin to lightly graze his ribs. Fabric split. Blood welled. A startled, pain-fueled shout rent the air. Theon’s kick had the boy’s leg shifting at a
