Ding!

With shaky hands, mike pulled out his phone from his trouser pocket and was utterly shocked to see a notification from his bank…

Acc number xxxx6928

credit alert…

Amount received: 100,000,000.

He stood rooted on the spot, stunned, as he stared at the notification on his phone and wondered if they was something at play here, for he couldn’t just receive an hundred million over night, what will he tell the FBI and other authorities, if he is seen spending money lavishly after been kicked out from his workplace?

“Austra is this real?” He asked breathlessly as he continued to stare at the notification.

[Yes Micheal…it is real…you have just been credited with a hundred million dollars, to all be spent before the next reward….]

“Ok…ok…I have a hundred million to be spent lavishly…how should I spend the money” Mike thought to himself as he walks out of the apartment, and then suddenly, an idea struck him…

Shopping.

Minutes later he entered a luxurious department store, which is the most expensive in the city, where all the high profiles and ministers, shop their outfits because it’s prices are outrageous, and there he picked a lot of items, different colors and designs.

“What the heck are you doing here?” A shrill voice shouted from the rows behind him, which he recognized immediately and became instantly irritated.

“Lillian” he muttered irritably, “what do I owe this….pleasure?”

“Are you stalking me?” Lillian asked as she approached him angrily with two of her long faced clowns, with an handful of shopping bags and it was then that Micheal realized how of a fool he was earlier to think of her as the most beautiful girl in the world, for now, he could see her real appearance, under the many paintings she had on her face….and it wasn’t pretty.

“Lillian…please don’t insult me” Mike drawled as he turned back to the row of shirts he had been checking out before the intrusion, but she obviously wasn’t done with him, thereby making him wonder even more what he had seen in her that made him believe he was in love and ready to engage her.

Well thankfully, that didn’t happen, for he would have still been stuck in that loop of deceit and lies.

Mike picked the number of shirts he liked from the hangers and added them to the pile of clothes and shoes he had already picked out, but was intercepted by Lillian once more, who still has that look in her eyes, that suggested trouble and before he could roll his eyes fully, she had raised her voice, calling for attention.

“Security! Security!” She called out and waved her hands to the direction of an officer, who was doing product checks, “there is a thief here and he should be arrested quickly!”

“Lillian!” Mike barked angrily, for he had had enough of her excesses, “Will you stop embarrassing yourself and focus your energy on preparing for your wedding?”

“Is there a problem madam?” The officer approached them slowly, with his right hand placed firmly on his taser for security purposes and asked again, “madam, is there a problem?”

“Yes officer.” Lillian cried and hurriedly walked up to the officer and said distraughtly, “it’s this man…” she pointed at Mike and continued, “he is a thief who had picked all these items with the intention of stealing something, when the cashier isn’t looking…if I’m lying, please ask him how he intends on paying for this stuff he took, for he had no job and no money.”

“Sir please I will advise you to step away from that trolley” the officer said calmly, with his hands pointed firmly at Micheal, who stood looking at the whole drama unfold with an amused look on his face.

‘Has Lillian always been like this?’ He mused and obeyed the command of the officer without a second thought.

“Place your hands on your head sir.” The officer ordered and searched Mike thoroughly, then when he was done, he nodded to the other officer standing nearby and said, “Clear.”

Then Mike, noticing that the misunderstanding had been resolved, spoke up angrily at the officer, for he wasn’t going to be embarrassed by the Stewarts no more;

“We are not done here officer.”

“We are very sorry sir.” The officer apologized calmly, with a hand placed flat on his chest, “I am in-fact grateful, to you being compliant to my orders, knowing very well that you were being wrongly accused.”

“He wasn’t wrongly accused officer” Lillian shrilled angrily, “he truly is going to steal something from this mall!”

“Madam!” The officer barked at her, “please behave yourself,” and turned back to Mike, who obviously wasn’t done with his shopping, picked out some ties that he felt will go well with the new designer suit he had just gotten, and said to him calmly, “Sir, do you mind us assisting you with the trolley?”

“Assisting me?” Mike asked bemused and shrugged absentmindedly, “If you wish, but I am not done shopping.”

“Ofcourse sir,” the officers replied with a huge smile on his face, “….but this will be handed over to a cashier, to start the calculations, so as as not to waste your time, when you are done shopping and ready to pay.”

Mike snickered and continued with his shopping for a short while, under the watchful eyes of the officer and the other shoppers who had stopped what they were doing, to watch the latest city’s gist first hand.

When Mike had shopped to his heart content, he approached the counter and was about handing his master card, when suddenly an idea struck him.

Lillian was not going to get away with this…easily.

“Officer” he turned to look at the security officer, who had been standing like a statue behind him and demanded, “I want miss Lillian here to go on her knees and apologize if I pay for all these…”

Lillian scoffed and jeered, “Like that will ever happen….and if you are wrong?”

“I will walk on my knees from here to the company, to be further disgraced.” He replied with a smirk on his face.

“Deal!” She exclaimed happily with her shoulders raised high, as the thought of Mike kneeling down at her feet will make her father proud.

“Sir, it’s fifteen million dollars” the cashier attending to him announced loudly, thereby, making many shoppers gasp in shock as such an amount of money, about to be spent on shopping…all at once.

And Micheal, looking very unperturbed, handed her his master card, which she swiped with shaky fingers and almost immediately, the machine chimed…

“Transaction successful.”

Tell me you are calling with good news about our digital ghost.”Gregory’s rich laugh boomed through the office. “Patience, Mike. Even ghosts take time to materialize. I am on it. No, I am calling because I just had the most entertaining meeting of my entire career.”“Oh?” Mike leaned back and propped his feet on his desk. “Do tell.”“You will not believe who just showed up at Arthur Ginger’s office, with tails between their legs, begging for an audience.”Mike’s smile widened. “No.”“Yes,” Gregory confirmed with glee. “Charles Stewart and his attack dog, Simeon. I wish you could have seen it, Mike. The sheer, unadulterated desperation. Stewart actually tried to pitch an alliance. ‘For old times’ sake.’”Mike burst out laughing. “He did not! What did Ginger say?”“He gave him ten

Sawdust Industries - Arthur Ginger’s Office. The reception area of Sawdust Industries was going according to its name…rustic, solid and functional, with the rich scent of polished wood and parchment hanging in the air. Simeon stood beside him, like a statue with tension and worry etched on his face. Finally, the woman nodded. “Mr. Ginger will see you now.”Ginger’s office was an enormous space adorned with bookshelves of rare timber and framed blueprints of historical buildings. But Stewart’s eyes weren’t on the decorations. They were locked on the two men seated in the deep leather armchairs opposite Ginger’s desk.Arthur Ginger sat behind the desk, like a king in a throne room. Sunlight streamed through the floor to ceiling windows, shining on a table where Mike, Mr Austin, Mr Liam and a few other core investors sat, not in crisis, but in confident anticipation.“The momentum is undeniable,” Mr Liam was saying, with a satisfied smile on his face. “Every headline, every ticker symbol, is telling the same story…Austra is the future. Bio-tech is the past.”Mr Austin nodded. “The past has a nasty habit of fighting back, Liam. We have all seen it before. Stewart won’t go quietly, you know that.”Mike leaned back in his chair and folded his fingers together. “He does not have to go quietly. He just has to go.”The door to the conference room burst open and Carter stood there, breathless with a tablet clutched in his hand. His usual happy composure was shattered and it’s being replaced by pure unadulterated shock.“Sir,”

A blip. Robinson’s alliance with Lawson is a facade built on sand. The SEC is already launching a full investigation into his finances. His house of cards will collapse by the end of the week.”A silver haired investor called Pierce, his face etched with skepticism, didn’t bother to hide his disgust. “A blip, Charles? To his left was Mr Ginger, owner of sawdust industries…a man who had made his fortune in lumber and construction, and harbored a legendary, decades old grudge against Charles Stewart.“The problem is not buying the shares,” Mike said. “The problem is buying them quietly. Stewart’s inner circle is panicked. They are watching every trade, every movement. If they see combined buy-up of their stock, they will administer poison pill protocols before we can blink.”Mr Ginger chuckled.
