Chapter 1

“grrhhhhhh”

Maverick screamed, jolting out of his sleep abruptly,  he slammed his legs underneath his desk with that abrupt motion. His heart was pounding and he was sweating profusely trying to catch his breath. 

“what’s happening?” he muttered out, his voice was dry and raspy and he knew he needed to drink water to quench his thirst and soothe his dry throat.

“MAVERICK!”

A strong stern voice called out to him,  drawing his attention back to reality. He looked at the man staring angrily at him and then he frowned slightly before looking at his surrounding.

‘This is not right’ Mave thought as he was Visibly Confused.

He was in a classroom, receiving lectures from the man that just yelled out his name furiously.  The classroom was filled with familiar faces, and they were all looking at him humorously and laughing at him for waking up boisterously and disrupting the class. Even the teacher was a familiar face, just like the students, but he could not place where and when he met them.

“Time and time again, you have proven to be a delinquent, always disrupting my class with your Shenanigans. I will not take it this time around, I’ll be reporting you to the principal and you will be disciplined appropriately.”  The class room teacher said to Mave in anger and frustration, ranting. 

Mave wasn’t even bother about the teacher ranting, almost acting like he wasn’t the subject of his ire. Rather, he was more concerned about understanding what was happening at the moment and trying to recall just what happened that had brought him here. 

‘Just a moment ago, I was fighting an SSS class monster and I successfully defeated it…’

He recalled with a brief flash back. In the flashback, he was standing with his sword lunged in the skull of the fallen monster near his feet. He was breathing heavily and trying to catch his breath, his body was covered in bruises and blood, both from him and the monster he just defeated. 

He had killed the monster after fighting it for hours, either of them relenting. It was am SSS – class monster and it was a miracle he even survived and killed something of that calibre.

He had gotten help too from his friend that was standing beside him also looking worse for wear just like him, but a lot better compared to Mave himself, since he didn’t take part in the direct confrontation.

A ring jumped out from the body of the fallen monster towards Mave and hung snatched it from the air and then examined it. The ring was of plain design, pitch black all round and hand some engravings on it both inside and outside, the engraving was of a different language and Mave could not read it. 

“Hey man, look at this…” Mave said but was interrupted as he felt a sharp pain on his gut, and the cold sensation of a blade running through him. He winced in pain and immediately touched his gut, and he felt his warm blood running freely over his hands. He looked down and saw a pointed end of a sword sticking out from his gut, he had been stabbed from behind. The ring fell from his hand, already covered on his blood and fell on the monsters body. 

“whaa…”

He mumbled trying to understand what happened, he turned slowly to see his friend holding the sword that had stabbed him from behind.

He was shocked and unbelief was written all one this face, he did not expect that his friend will be the one to kill him even after all they had been through together. 

“why?” Mave managed to ask his friend, as he began to feel his strength leave him, a clear indication that he was dying. He was already so weak from the fight with the sss class monster and there was no way he could survive this. 

His vision started getting blurry and his sight getting darker and darker, the last thing he could see was his friend smiling as he ran the sword deeper into his gut and successfully killing him.

Back to the present, Mave frowned as he recalled it all. He was killed by his friend right after he defeated the SSS class monster that was on a rampage. 

‘tch, that bastard. Why will he betray me at the end?’ Mave immediately got angry as he thought about it. He had trusted his friend with his life. 

He died before, but now he was alive again In a classroom with familiar faces. 

He immediately looked around and then saw his phone. He picked it up from the table and went through it and his eyes widened in surprise.

“This is ten years earlier.” He said in surprise but he remained quiet when everyone started looking at him again after his sudden outburst again.

‘I died and I got reincarnated ten years ago, before the whole thing started. It all makes sense now’ Mave thought as he nodded In understanding, he looked around the classroom realized why everything was so familiar. This was his classroom ten years ago, these were his classmates and the man teaching at the front of the class was his teacher back then.

‘wow, wow,  wow. To think my life just got reset to the very beginning again. I remember today, and this date. Today is the day everything started. The day that monsters appeared out of Nowhere and people started unlocking their talents to be able to fight against these monsters.’

Mave smiled as he finally grasped everything. He looked at the window and outside the class room and noted that everything was still normal..

‘If I remember correctly, a red fog covering the sky should be the beginning of everything, and the moment the fog disappears, the monsters will appear and some people will begin unlocking their talents. The fog hasn’t appeared yet, I still have time. If that’s the case, I should prepare so I don’t get caught offguard like last time.’
