Chapter 12: Cars

“Pick up the phone." Jin insisted, taking a sharp glance at Chloe in the silence.

Chloe gulped hard, looking at the screen on the phone with fear in her eyes. She swiped to the green icon and took the photo to her ear, her hand vibrating visibly.

“What the heck have you done Chloe!! You broke up with Alex!!? Do you know what kind of trouble you've caused because of your foolishness!! You must come back home now!! I give you 10 min! I don't care if you're going to fly from wherever you are!! 10 mins!!!" Her father blurted out without a pause in his breath, his voice effusing rage that got Chloe more scared.

“Dad..it's not.." 

Her father had ended the call before she could make a comprehensive statement. 

The phone slipped from her hand and tears clouded in her eyes, slipping down like a drizzling rain.

Jin glanced at her. “Courage is not the absence of fear but the will to proceed in the presence of fear and danger. You must go and see your dad." He said with a tone of finality.

Chloe looked at him, her eyes blurry with tears, reluctance evident in her eyes.

She shook her head, causing droplets of tears spilling from her eyes “No..no.. he's going to punish me. He doesn't care about me.." Her voice trailed into sobs and bent her head, allowing the tears to flow down freely from her eyes

Chloe felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked up to see Jin laying a hand on her shoulder. She averted her gaze to his face to see a look of: EVERYTHING IS IN ORDER.

“Punishment does two things. To make you a slave or to make you a sharp blade. Your father might punish you to enslave you but you must whet yourself and be a shining blade. Stand up and fight for yourself." He said, the wisdom behind his words filling the car that even the driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror, wondering what kind of cells make up the brain of his master.

Chloe sighed and nodded, wiping the tears from her eyes as he had just gained emotional strength from his words.

“Smile even when there is turbulence. Smile is a fear that confuses the enemies. Smiles shatter the burden in our hearts and lift  our emotions. Smile Chloe." Jin teased.

Chole chuckled, feeling a bit shy from his smooth words which suddenly made her forget her sorrow.

She sniffed, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

“Alright master. I'll go." She said, wiping the tears off  with the back of her palm.

Jin nodded with a smile. “Good. You're taking this car along." He said and told the driver to take Chloe.

Chloe looked at him, her eyes lifting up, flashing with surprise. “What!? The car? Which one are you going to drive master?!" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

Jin smiled at her and reached the door handle. “I can take care of myself Chloe. Meet me at 24, Brandon Street when you're done." He said and stepped out while watching the car drive away till it was out of sight.

Jin breathed in and exhaled heavily, his heart swirling with intentions.

“I'll eventually step into her affair and sort things out." He muttered and flagged down a taxi.

Jin entered the front seat. “Take me to one of the best automobile companies in the city." He relaxed on the seat.

The driver stole a curious glance at him, taking in his young appearance.

“You're talking about virelli. Are you getting a bicycle...I mean some kind of electric bicycle?" He raised his brow.

Jin chuckled and took a glance at him. 

“Oh... don't miscomprehend my question. Virali isn't a place to get cheap stuff. They have the best cars, engineered by experts in the world. They're simply the best." He explained frantically as if he had been paid to advertise for the company.

Jin simply nodded and leaned backward comfortably. 

“Alright. Let's go there." He said, making the driver raise his brow in surprise, noting his confidence.

The car stopped at the gigantic gate of vireli which was wide open. Securities in navy blue uniform with a silver insignia on their vest stepped forward to conduct a security check.

“I have a customer in the car who will be checking things out." The driver said, slightly poking his head out from the window.

The security guard lowered his waist and his gaze fell on Jin. He observed him for some moments and nodded his head gently.

“Alright. Let's check your booth." He said and walked behind the car.

After checking, he allowed the taxi inside. 

Jin stepped down from the taxi and looked around, his gaze falling on the lines of luxury cars at the parking lot.

Jin paid the driver and pressed forward, heading towards the glassy  three storey building of vireli. Light from the sun reflected on the transparent glass wall, making cars on display visible to the eyes. From the angle of depression, he could see customers checking out cars inside.

“Let's check out some cars." He muttered.

Stepping into the showroom, Jin's eyes fell on the lines of exotic cars which gleamed under the soft LED light. Soft whispers filled the air as customers made comments about the cars on display. Workers dressed smartly in white and black uniforms attend to customers with an inviting smile on their faces.

Jin's eyes fell on a sleek  Ventra 560 at the center of the showroom. He nodded his head satisfactorily but with little amazement.

A female worker  walked to him with an effective practiced smile on her face.

"Good day sir. Welcome to vireli. We have the latest cars here. All models that give a lasting experience and durability or are you getting a bike or bicycle?" Her eyes lifted up, the smile unwavering from her face.

“I'm getting a car. I'll just check out all the latest models of your car and make a choice." He said smoothly.

Her eyes lifted, amazed at how efficient Jin speaks and his enthusiasm to get things done.

Her smile widened, taking more interest “Alright sir. Let's check out some cars on the last floor. We have our latest cars on display there."
