Chapter Nine: Blood and Deceit

Javier continued to cough violently as he shut his eyes tightly, refusing to open them. His hands still moved to cover his ears despite his entire body going limp. Although he was in a precaurious ordeal he still remembered he had to protect his weak points.

And even when he felt like coughing out his lungs Javier still didn't let go of his ears or open his eyes. Instead he curled himself into a ball and rolled over so that he was facing down. His will to survive was greater than the agonizing pain he was feeling right now.

Blake snickered when he saw this, "Doing that won't help you, Javier."

He slowly walked towards Javier, his left hand clasped around the hilt of his sword. Even though Javier was in a weak state he didn't dare let his guard down. As a Raider of the Hunter class he had a rich experience in this aspect. And there was this notion he always followed: Never underestimate your prey.

Since Javier could somehow awaken as a Raider instead of getting killed alongside the others, there was no reason to underestimate him. Perhaps he had a terrifying ability which he had not yet decided to use.

Besides Blake had already blown the Blackstone Powder across Javier's face. The newly awakened Raider had already inhaled it into his lungs. It wouldn't take more than three minutes for him to die. So he felt there was no need to risk his life getting too close to Javier.

Curling his lips into a warm smile he said, "It's only a matter of time before all your organs melt from the inside."

This time Javier began coughing out mouthfuls of blood and bits of flesh. Wisps of black smoke accompanied the contents of what he coughed out, making his condition seem more horrendous.

Javier was in a dire condition so he didn't see the interface that suddenly appeared in front of him, announcing the new skill that he had gained.

Another interface popped up and this time he was able to see it because of the strange healing that was going on within his body. He was still in an agonizing pain but his visceral organs didn't seem to be melting anymore. Instead of melting they seemed to be repairing themselves!

'Blood of Donald!' Javier narrowed his eyes in bafflement. Some moments ago he was on the verge of death but now he had regained clarity and could think!

But then he didn't stop coughing and continued doing so in order to trick Blake. So what if he now had Fleshborne Healing? What was he going to do with it? Would this skill make up for the combat skill which he didn't have?

So he decided to resort to trickery instead, continuing to pretend that he was dying. Then when Blake least expected it he would strike immediately, killing him with one strike.

But the problem was, how was he going to kill Blake with one strike? This Raider was a seasoned level one Hunter and wouldn't go down easily. His agility and perception was almost comparable to Javier's so taking him unaware would be very hard.

"See, Javier," Blake said. "I would have let your poor girlfriend off but you pushed me."

'Girlfriend?' Javier thought within himself, almost failing to keep on his act. What girlfriend is he talking about?

"So for this act I'm going to take your girlfriend," Blake chuckled devilishly. "And then I'm going to do all sorts of things with her."

He then reached out his left hand and grabbed Javier's hair, pulling his head up, "Victoria Stan...was that her full name again?"

Javier suddenly found himself standing in an unknown forest. Everything appeared to be hazy but two figures were very visible.

One of the figures was the original Javier Oliver. He held an axe in his right hand and was chopping some logs of woods. Beads of sweat slid down his forehead as he swung his arms with a strained expression.

The other figure belonged to a young woman in her early twenties. She had a pair of brown eyes and brown curly hair which cascaded down to her waist. A bubbly smile was plastered across her face as she yelled, "You can do it Javier!"

"Stop it, Vicky," Javier grunted. "You're distracting me!"

Suddenly Javier had the same splitting headache when he had a memory sync earlier, his eyebrows furrowing. This unconsciously made his pretense of being in intense pain perfect.

"She's going to become mine, Javier," Blake scoffed. "All your dreams are going to be buried here...the dreams of a common thief!"

'Victoria...' Javier soon recovered from the headache but kept on pretending to be in pain. 'She's my girlfriend?'

At that moment he remembered his girlfriend Mirabel who had betrayed and cheated on him, sleeping with Deucalion instead. This filled him so much bitterness but he immediately wiped that off his mind.

He had one task right now and that was killing Blake Johnson. Everything else would fall in place later. The task at hand was more important than anything else, including the socalled Victoria Stan.

"How are you sure I'm going to die?" Javier suddenly curled his lips into a warm smile, a glint of mischief appearing in his black eyes.

[SCAMMING ACTIVE]

At that moment Blake who had been chuckling suddenly narrowed his eyes, staring at Javier who had stopped coughing.

"How do you know I didn't die with the others?" Javier continued. "How do you know I didn't somehow resurrect?"

Blake didn't know why but he continued to listen to what Javier was saying. And the more he listened the more he believed what the newly awakened Raider was saying.

"There's no how you're going to kill me, Blake," Javier said. "I have an ability and it's called Fleshborne Immortality. I can't die no matter what."

When Javier said this his facial muscles almost twitched because he was lying. But since the Scamming skill was a passive one, it instantly worked on his facial muscles and smoothed them.

'What?' Blake's pupils dilated, his grip becoming weak. He was trembling right now because of what Javier had just said. And he had every right to tremble because an ability like that was too powerful!

'He can't die!' he thought within himself. 'What kind of monstrous ability did he awaken?'

"So why don't you just run away while I'm still weak," Javier continued. "You can't kill me but I'll find a way to kill you because I also have an ability similar to yours."

Without waiting for Blake to say anything he added, "It's not similar to yours but actually does something better. It allows me adapt to various situations and sniff out weaknesses just like your ability..."

"What class are you?" Blake asked, plotting his escape. There was no way he would be able to kill this young man so the best option was escaping.

So he decided to distract Javier in order to buy him a perfect chance of escaping. This Javier Oliver in front of him was a total monster!

But at that moment Javier suddenly reached out his right hand and grabbed Blake's sword, pulling it instantly. This caused all of Blake's fingers to be severed instantly, blood spurting out.

A look of horror and shock appeared on the Hunter's face but before he could circumvent the situation Javier had already slashed the sword at his neck.

"Ack!" Blake coughed out a mouthful of blood as he grabbed his neck, trying to stop the blood from spraying out. But that didn't stop him from losing every strength in his body as he fell backwards.

Just as he was falling Javier grabbed him with his left hand, smiling, "I'm not of the Hunter class."

He then let go of Blake before adding, "I'm of the Thief class."

'Thief...' that was Blake's last thought before he took his last breath.

The notifications kept on coming but Javier was too exhausted to read them all. He only had one stamina point remaining and three health point. He had to rest so that he would recuperate.
