Awakening With the Renegade System

Chapter eight: Hunter Meets Prey

Javier was still battling with the sudden memory sync when Blake's longsword connected with his neck in a flash. A dull pain instantly registered itself in Javier's mind, jolting him out of the mental pain he was currently experiencing.

Blake had expected to completely sever off Javier's head, leaving nothing but an empty neck with blood splashing out. But instead of that happening his sword bounced back, causing the hand which was gripping it to ache.

'What in the world—' Blake was very shocked, his eyes bulging out of their sockets as he stared at Javier in shock. This man was supposed to be an ordinary thief! How then was he able to suddenly become impervious to his slash?!

Javier who had been jolted out of his thoughts immediately narrowed his eyes which flashed with fury. Now that he had received a memory from the Renegade System about this socalled Blake Johnson, he became hellbent on killing the man.

From the memory glimpse he had just now and what the Raider had just said, it was this man that plotted the death of the original Javier Oliver. And it wasn't just Javier who died but a group of his friends who had come with him. They had all died in the most gruesome ways ever, from traps which were obviously set by Blake.

"Let's see who's going down now!" Javier gritted his teeth as he clasped his fingers around the hilt of the Steel Fang dagger tightly, springing up from the ground towards Blake.

He felt that since this man was nothing but a level one Raider of the Hunter class it would be easy to take him down. After all he was able to kill three Steel Sabertooths within the same day he awakened as a Raider.

He immediately swung his right arm upwards at Blake's torso as he sprung forward, his expression turning dark. The air parted way for the blade of his dagger as it approached the Hunter who was still shocked, its tip surging forwards with a glint.

But he was instantly proven wrong. Humans and monsters were distinct creatures that can never be compared together. Although the Steel Sabertooths seemed to be stronger than this Raider they were nothing but monsters without intelligence. And this was why Javier had been able to kill them easily.

At that moment when Blake saw Javier approaching him, his eyes narrowed and he immediately leaped backwards. He evaded the tip of the blade which would have stabbed into his torso before slashing at the dagger.

A loud clang resounded as the Steel Fang dagger was sent flying out of Javier's hand. As someone who had never wielded a dagger before his grip was very weak. And even with the Steel Skin skin there was no way he could fix this.

Blake on the other hand was a seasoned level one Raider. He had an excellent sword skill so he was able to circumvent the situation immediately, reflecting the element of surprise at Javier.

"You might have awakened as a Raider, Javier," Blake said as his eyes glowed with a soft blue luminance.

Instantly all of Javier's weak points were revealed before him. Shades of red appeared on Javier's eyes, nostrils, mouth and ears—they displayed the weak points where he could attack to effectively bypass Javier's steel-like skin.

Without wasting any time Blake immediately lunged at Javier, his feet dancing under him as they slid effortlessly across the grass. Twisting his upper body fluidly he swung his arm horizontally at Javier's eyes, his longsword cutting through the air.

An ominous feeling instantly overwhelmed Javier even before the longsword reached his eyes. He didn't know why he felt that he was in a dangerous situation at that moment. But he decided to trust his perception and turned his head to his left. Thankfully he seemed to be more agile than the Hunter or he would have been instantly blinded from that single slash.

His heart tightened as the longsword missed his eyes, slashing across the right side of his face horizontally. It moved past his right ear, cutting into the air without leaving a single mark on his skin. He only felt a tingling sensation where the sword had cut across.

Blake immediately reached out his left hand into his pocket and pulled out a golden pipe before placing it into his mouth. As his lips hugged the pipe tightly he blew the golden pipe, releasing a dart at Javier's ears.

But the newly awakened Raider and Renegade host seemed to be more perceptive. He had already raised his right hand upwards to shield his ear. He then lunged away from Blake, feeling the dart hit his palm before bouncing off.

'He's of the Hunter class so he should be able to have a kind of weird skill...' Javier thought within himself as he increased the distance between him and Blake. 'He should be able to somehow tell my weak points...'

As an avid w******l reader Javier was somehow conversant with situations like this. And he came to know about his weak points without the Renegade System having to tell him. He had read several cultivation novels where the MCs focused on cultivating the golden bell k****u after all.

'Screw you, Renegade System!' Javier cursed inwardly as he turned his head in Blake's direction in order to know his current location.

But the Blake seemed to be agile as well, closing up the distance. He swung his left arm quickly, delivering several slashes at Javier while blowing the darts at him as well.

'Blood of Donald!' Javier caused as he bent his head down, blocking his ears with his hands as he took the slashes with his body without bothering to dodge them.

Within a few moments his clothes were shredded, exposing his steel-like skin which was beginning to show faint marks under the constant assault.

'Blood of Donald!' he cursed when the holographic interface appeared in front of him. A heavy fear instantly grew in his mind, his feet becoming unsteady as he tottered while moving away from Blake.

No one needed to inform him that his health point and stamina point were very important factors in this fight. Once either of them ran down he would be left in a very precaurious situation, unable to defend himself. And if he ended up getting killed he wasn't sure of another reincarnation!

After moving away from Blake for some time he immediately did a feint to the left in order to lure the Hunter into making the wrong judgment. And when the Hunter failed to see through his feint Javier rammed into his body suddenly.

"You fool!" Blake spat out the golden pipe in his mouth and scoffed.

He then sidestepped Javier, making him stumble forward. "I'm a Hunter, those feeble tactics won't work on me!"

With these words he reached out his left hand and grabbed Javier's neck. His right foot then moved in a flash beneath Javier, calmly sweeping both of his feet off the ground. And with a soft push from the arm which was grabbing Javier's neck, he sent the newly awakened Raider toppling over.

'Damn...' Javier cursed hardly as he was sent crashing to the ground with a loud thud, feeling a dull pain in his back. And before he could even think of recovering from the fall, Blake was already upon him.

"Even though you awakened today and we're the same level," Blake said as he stomped on Javier's body while slashing him with his longsword, "I have more experience than you!"

'Think, think, think...' Javier thought within himself, entering into a state of panic. If he allowed this to continue then he was definitely going to get killed.

Trusting himself he immediately raised his hands and grabbed one of Blake's foot before turning around with force, exerting strength into his upper body. By doing this he would instantly break that leg!

But Blake was one step ahead of him. He fell on his knees the moment Javier pulled this move, burying them into the young man's chest.

Javier felt a dull pain in his chest, his eyes widening in horror after realizing that his attack didn't work. Then Blake suddenly blew a white powder at him from nowhere, causing his vision to be clouded by whiteness.

Instantly a burning sensation filled his lungs, causing him to cough violently as he let go of Blake's leg. His lungs seemed to be on fire from inhaling the strange powder, his entire body turning limp!

At this moment he felt utterly defenseless, unable to do anything. It would take a single attack from Blake to really end him at this point of time. And it was going to happen really quick!
