Theo made it three blocks before he realized Blake was still following him.
His enhanced senses picked up the familiar heartbeat, cheap cologne mixed with fear-sweat, and sneakers trying too hard to be quiet on wet pavement.
'Stupid,' Theo thought, his bloodlust ticking up to 91/100. 'He saw me at The Pit.'
The smart move would be to confront Blake now. But Theo's bloodlust was already dangerously high from three brutal fights. One more spike and he'd lose control completely.
'Just get home,' Theo told himself.
He picked up his pace through back alleys. Blake kept coming anyway.
Theo turned into a dead-end alley. The same one where the wolf had bitten him. He stopped and waited.
Blake appeared at the entrance, phone in hand, camera pointed at Theo.
"I knew it," Blake said, voice shaking. "I fucking knew something was wrong with you. That wasn't normal back there. The way you moved...."
"Put the phone away, Blake," Theo said quietly.
"Or what?" Blake's fear was obvious, but desperation made him brave. "I've got video of you at that fight club. The claws, the eyes, all of it. My uncle's gonna pay good money for proof that you're some kind of freak."
Theo's bloodlust spiked: 94/100.
The beast inside surged, demanding blood. His fingers tingled and his claws wanting to extend.
"Blake," Theo's voice came out rougher, inhuman. "Last chance. Delete that video and walk away."
"Fuck you!" Blake kept recording. "My uncle's got connections..."
A system notification flashed:
[WARNING: Bloodlust Critical - 94/100]
[Emergency Quest: Maintain Control]
Failure: Uncontrolled Rampage, Masquerade Violation
Time Limit: 5 Minutes
Theo closed his eyes, trying to breathe. In through the nose. Out through the mouth.
It wasn't working. Bloodlust: 95/100.
"What's wrong with you?" Blake was closer now. "You look sick..."
Theo's eyes snapped open, glowing amber with vertical pupils.
Blake stumbled back. "Holy shit. What the fuck are you?"
"Something you should have left alone," Theo growled.
Bloodlust: 96/100.
Then a new scent hit him. Sharp. Familiar. Old books and incense.
"That's enough, pup."
Grimm stepped into the alley from a side passage, placing himself between Theo and Blake.
"And you," Grimm turned to Blake, eyes flashing amber. "Put the phone down before I make you eat it."
There was weight in Grimm's voice that made Blake drop his phone immediately. It clattered to the pavement.
"Good boy." Grimm gestured, and Blake's phone sparked, the screen going dark. "Now listen carefully. You've stumbled into something beyond your understanding. Forget everything you saw tonight. Go home. Tell no one."
"I don't....I can't....." Blake was shaking.
"You can and you will. Because the alternative is that I let the young wolf behind me finish what his instincts are screaming for." Grimm released him. "And trust me, you won't enjoy that."
Theo felt Grimm's hand on his shoulder. Something cool flowed through that contact, calming the fire inside.
His bloodlust dropped: 90/100, 87/100, 85/100.
"Breathe, pup," Grimm said quietly. "You're stronger than the beast."
Blake was already running.
Minutes passed. The bloodlust continued dropping: 82/100, 79/100.
Finally, Theo's vision cleared.
[Emergency Quest Complete]
[Reward: 10 EXP, Bloodlust Control +1]
[New Ability: Iron Will - LV1]
[+5% resistance to bloodlust increases]
"Better?" Grimm asked.
Theo nodded.
"Want to tell me what you were doing at The Pit fighting three matches when you're barely a week old?"
"I needed money. The debt...."
"So you risked exposure and nearly killed a human with a camera?" Grimm was sharp. "You stopped paying attention. That's how young wolves get killed."
"The debt....."
"I'll loan you the money. You can pay me back by not doing anything stupid for the next month."
"I can't....."
"You will, because the alternative is you keep fighting until your bloodlust hits critical and you slaughter everyone there." Grimm started walking. "This loan comes with conditions. No more fighting until you've learned control. You're coming to my shop every night for training. And when the Council summons you, you do exactly as I tell you."
"What's a Royal bloodline?" Theo asked.
"Later.... First, we deal with your immediate problems." Grimm flagged down a cab. "Get in. We're paying your debt, then you're going home to sleep. Tomorrow night, your real education begins."
The system chimed:
[LEVEL UP!]
[You are now Level 2]
[All stats increased by 2]
[Bloodlust reduced by 20]
[New feature unlocked: Specialization Paths]
A new screen appeared:
[SPECIALIZATION CHOICE]
[Alpha Path] - Leadership and pack abilities
[Lone Wolf Path] - Individual strength and stealth
[Berserker Path] - Pure combat power
[Balanced Path] - Flexibility across all areas
Note: Choose before Level 5
"The system is asking me to choose a path," Theo said. "Alpha, Lone Wolf, Berserker, or Balanced."
Grimm's eyebrows rose. "Already? What does your gut tell you?"
Theo thought about always being alone, fighting his own battles. But he also thought about Raven's advice, the other fighters, his mother.
"I don't want to be alone anymore. But I'm not ready to lead."
"Then don't choose yet. Wait until you understand what you're choosing."
Theo mentally selected [POSTPONE].
[Specialization postponed until Level 5]
[Warning: Delaying slows skill acquisition]
The cab pulled up to a dingy building in Dockside. Crimson Fang headquarters.
They climbed to the third floor where Vincent Russo sat behind an expensive desk.
"Mr. Grimm. What an unexpected pleasure." His gaze shifted to Theo. "And the young wolf."
"We're here to pay Theodore's debt," Grimm said. "In full."
"Five thousand dollars, and we'll call it even."
"The debt was five thousand," Theo said. "I already paid eighteen hundred...."
"Did you?" Russo smiled, showing fangs. "My records show five thousand owed."
Theo's bloodlust spiked: 62/100.
Grimm put a hand on his shoulder. "Five thousand it is." He tossed an envelope on the desk.
Russo stamped a file. "Theo Cross's debt is paid. You're free."
Back in the cab, Theo fumed. "He stole my money!"
"He's a vampire running a criminal empire. What did you expect?" Grimm's voice was firm. "Learn this now: the supernatural world is even more brutal than the human one."
"Why did you really help me?"
"I made a promise to an old friend. The wolf that bit you, her name was Luna. She was the last Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack. She'd been running from hunters for three years. She chose you specifically."
"Why me?"
"That's a question I'm still trying to answer."
The cab stopped at Theo's building. Grimm handed him another envelope.
"Two thousand. For your mother's medical bills. Consider it an advance on your future services."
"Doing what?"
"Whatever I need. Starting with staying alive." Grimm's smile was mysterious. "Tomorrow night, midnight, my shop. And pup.... When you sleep, don't be surprised if you dream of running under the moon."
Theo climbed out, went inside, and placed the money on the kitchen table with a note for his mother.
Then he collapsed on his bed and checked his status.

New Quest: Meet Grimm for Training
As Theo drifted off, he dreamed.
He ran through a moonlit forest on four legs, wind in his fur. A massive black she-wolf ran beside him, silver eyes wise and sad.
"You carry my legacy now," she seemed to say. "Use it well, little alpha. The pack needs you."
She vanished, and Theo was alone, howling at a blood-red moon.
He woke with a start, Luna's words echoing.
The pack needs you.
But Theo didn't have a pack.
Not yet, anyway.
But maybe, with Grimm's help, he could become what Luna had seen in him.
A leader. A protector. An Alpha.

Dangerous Questions
The day after the Council meeting, Theo went to school exhausted but wired. He'd leveled up to 3, which meant his stats had increased again, but it also meant the system was pushing him harder. His daily quests now required even more, 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, seven miles of running, and forty-five minutes of meditation. He'd completed them all before dawn, then caught two hours of sleep before dragging himself to school. But sleep deprivation didn't matter much with Enhanced Physiology at Level 3. His body recovered faster, needed less rest. Still, his mind felt foggy as he navigated the crowded hallways."Theo!"He turned to find Sarah Chen walking toward him with determined purpose. She wore jeans and a school newspaper t-shirt, her dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, and carried a messenger bag stuffed with notebooks.'Not now,' Theo thought. His bloodlust was already at 52/100 from residual anger about Marcus Kane Jr, and dealing with Sarah's questions was the last thing he nee
The Council Summons
Three days of training with Grimm had taught Theo that he knew absolutely nothing about being a werewolf. Each night, he'd arrive at midnight and leave at dawn, his body aching and his mind stuffed with information. Bloodlust control exercises. Combat forms. Transformation techniques. Pack dynamics. Supernatural politics. The history of werewolf bloodlines.Grimm was a relentless teacher, pushing Theo harder each session. But it was working. His bloodlust control had improved dramatically. He could now manage spikes up to 70/100 without losing himself. His combat forms were becoming second nature. And he'd finally mastered holding a partial transformation for over an hour without strain. The system had rewarded his progress:[STATUS UPDATE]Level: 2 EXP:175/200 Bloodlust: 42/100Skills: Werewolf Combat Forms - LV3 Bloodlust Control - LV2 (New) Partial Transformation Mastery - LV2 (New)But on the fourth day, everything changed.Theo was at school, enduring another boring lectur
First Lesson
Theo woke to sunlight streaming through his window and the smell of bacon cooking. He sat up, momentarily disoriented. His mother hadn't cooked breakfast in months, she'd been too weak to stand at the stove for more than a few minutes. He rushed to the kitchen and found her at the counter, humming softly as she flipped eggs. She looked better than she had in weeks. Her skin had color and her movements were steady."Mom?"She turned with a smile that made Theo's chest tighten. "Good morning, baby. I hope you're hungry.""You're cooking.""I found the money." Her eyes were wet. "Theodore, I don't know what you did, but.....""Don't ask," Theo said quickly. "Just... use it. Get the treatment. Please."She crossed the room and pulled him into a hug. "I already called the clinic. I have an appointment this afternoon." She pulled back, studying his face. "Are you in trouble?""No mom... I promise." It wasn't entirely a lie. The debt was paid, Blake had been scared off, and Grimm was helping

Blood Money
Theo sat at his laptop staring at $5,000. Just the number that would solve all his problems. That's what he owed the Crimson Fang gang. Five thousand dollars that might as well have been five million for someone who worked minimum wage at a convenience store. He'd spent the past two days trying to figure out legitimate ways to get the money. Extra shifts at work would take months. A loan required credit he didn't have. Selling everything he owned wouldn't cover a tenth of it.Which left illegitimate options.Theo pulled up the search he'd been avoiding "Riverside City underground fighting."The first few results were MMA gyms and boxing clubs. Legal and Safe.'Useless.'But buried on the third page of results was a forum post from six months ago"Looking for REAL fights in Riverside. Not that regulated sports BS. Heard there's an underground scene in The Narrows. Anyone know how to get in?"The top reply was brief, If you have to ask, you're not ready. But if you're serious, go to Sul
Grimm's Lesson
Theo locked the shop door and flipped the sign to Closed as instructed, his heart pounding. Every instinct screamed that he was putting himself in danger by being alone with this stranger. But those same instincts told him that Grimm was different. Dangerous, yes, but not to him. Not yet, anyway."Good," Grimm said, moving around the counter. "Now, let me see it.""See what?""Your claws, pup. Extend them."Theo hesitated for only a moment before focusing on that wild heat in his chest. The transformation came easier this time, his fingernails darkening and extending into curved black claws.Grimm stepped closer, studying Theo's hands with the critical eye of an expert examining fine craftsmanship. "Hmm. Clean transformation. No trembling. You've already practiced, haven't you?""The system gave me a quest," Theo said. "I had to practice claw extension ten times."The old man's eyebrows rose. "System?.....Interesting.... The wolf's gift runs deeper than I thought." He gestured for The
