The tall scavenger fumbled blindly with his sword hilt, his fingers shaking so violently he nearly dropped the weapon into the mud. The yellow flame of the torch flickered wildly in the freezing wind, casting long, jittery shadows across the blood-soaked walls of the mass grave.

"Stay back! You stay back, freak!" the guard yelled, his voice cracking with rising panic as he finally managed to yank the short sword free from its leather scabbard.

Kael didn't rush. Every movement felt fluid, calculated, and terrifyingly clear. The system interface hovered effortlessly at the edge of his vision, glowing with cool blue text that tracked his rising heartbeat and combat readiness.

[Target Analysis: Imperial Scavenger]

[Level: 4]

[HP: 110/110]

[Threat Assessment: Low]

"You called me a dog an hour ago," Kael said, his voice dropping into a low, metallic hum that seemed to vibrate straight through the cold air. He took a slow step forward, his boots crunching lightly against the frozen bone shards beneath the mud.

The guard swung the short sword in a frantic, wide arc, trying to keep Kael at a distance. The blade cut through the empty air with a sharp whistle, completely missing its mark as Kael leaned his head back by a fraction of an inch, watching the steel pass harmlessly past his nose.

His enhanced agility stat was doing its work. To Kael, the guard's desperate swing felt painfully slow, like watching an object move underwater.

Before the man could pull his sword back to reset his guard, Kael closed the remaining distance in a sudden, blurred burst of speed. He drove his hand forward, his razor-sharp black fingers piercing straight through the guard's leather chest armor as if it were made of wet paper.

*Rip.*

The guard gasped, his eyes flying wide open in utter shock as he looked down at Kael’s hand buried deep in his chest. The sword slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against the stones of the trench.

[System Notification]

[Critical Hit!]

[You have defeated Level 4 Imperial Scavenger.]

[You have received 15 XP.]

Kael ripped his hand free, catching the collapsing man by the shoulder before he could hit the filthy ground. The warmth of fresh, pulsing blood coated his fingers, reigniting the deep, primal hunger in the back of his throat. He lowered the dying scavenger down into the mud and pressed his mouth to the wound.

The second wave of blood hit him with even greater force than the first. It flooded his veins with liquid power, burning away the last lingering aches of his previous life as a disposable infantryman.

A rapid series of glowing blue prompts flashed across his eyes.

[Blood Siphon Activated.]

[Harvesting high-purity target blood.]

[Analyzing genetic traits... Success.]

[+2 Agility (Permanent)]

[+1 Strength (Permanent)]

[You have gained 6 Blood Points (BP).]

[Level Up!]

[Congratulations! You are now Level 3.]

[You have received 5 Stat Points to allocate.]

Kael stood up slowly, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He felt completely revitalized. The cold wind didn't bite anymore; his body hummed with an inner furnace of supernatural energy. He looked down at his status screen to review his new parameters.

[Vampire Sovereign Level 3]

[HP: 140/180]

[BP: 10]

[Strength: 5]

[Vitality: 4]

[Agility: 8]

[Intelligence: 8]

"Ten Blood Points," Kael murmured to himself, testing the flex of his fingers as the dark claws retracted slightly beneath his skin. "Let's see what else this system can do."

He focused his mind on the interface, thinking of the skill menu. A secondary sub-window slid open beneath his stats, displaying options that hadn't been available when he was flatlining at the bottom of the trench.

[Available System Functions:]

[1. Skill Shop (Locked - Requires Level 5)]

[2. Bloodline Evolution Tree (Preview Available)]

[3. Inventory Storage (5 Slots Unlocked)]

Kael mentally selected the inventory storage. With a faint pop of displaced air, the dead guard's short sword, a small leather pouch of silver coins, and the flickering torch vanished from the dirt, securely stored away inside his personal system space. It was clean, efficient, and left no physical evidence behind for any subsequent patrols to track.

He bent down and stripped the guard's heavy woolen cloak, wrapping it tightly around his shoulders to hide his tattered, blood-stained uniform. If he was going to walk out of this border zone and into the lower districts of the capital, he couldn't afford to look like a runaway corpse.

Kael turned his gaze away from the mass grave, looking up toward the steep, rocky embankment that led out of the trench and onto the main supply road. Far in the distance, past the jagged line of black pine trees, the towering stone walls of the outer city glowed under the pale moonlight. Lord Julian and his noble officers were sitting comfortably behind those walls right now, counting their coins and believing Kael was rotting in the mud.

They had no idea what was crawling out of the dark.

Kael crouched low, planting his boots firmly against the frozen dirt of the embankment. His enhanced agility muscles coiled tightly like steel springs. With a single, explosive push, he launched himself straight up the steep wall, clearing the six-foot ledge in one effortless bound.

He landed soundlessly on the gravel path above, his crimson eyes gleaming in the dark as he took his first steady steps toward the road. Every step forward brought him closer to the capital, closer to the elite who betrayed him, and closer to the absolute power he needed to tear their entire world down.

A sharp, warning chime suddenly echoed in his mind, stopping him in his tracks.

[System Alert: Regional Patrol Detected Ahead.]

[Target Count: Three armed units.]

[Recommendation: Engage or Evade.]

Kael didn't hesitate. He pulled the hood of his woolen cloak low over his face, reached into his inventory space, and gripped the handle of the stolen short sword. A cold, confident smirk touched the corners of his mouth.

Evade? That wasn't his style anymore. He needed more blood, more stats, and more levels before he knocked on Lord Julian's front door. He stepped off the path into the cover of the dense pine trees, silently intercepting the approaching patrol.

He didn't flinch, nor did he turn around in a panic. He simply let the hostile words hang in the air, recognizing the arrogant, shrill tone immediately. Standing just a few paces away near the grand stone steps of the central exchange bureau was High Clerk Valen, a heavily pampered official draped in rich velvet robes embroidered with thick, glittering silver coin threads. He didn't answer her nervous whisper with words; his mind was entirely locked onto the pulsing, invisible hum of arcane energy vibrating through the wood. The immediate trouble was right here—a high-tier security lock designed by guild artificers to vaporize unauthorized intruders.According to the plan they mapped out after leaving the Blue Lantern tavern, this black-market drop point held the illegal financial ledgers, rare catalyst stones, and high-value blood vials managed by the

The immediate trouble had passed, but the lingering threat of the local enforcer network hung heavy in the smoke-filled air. If the Syndicate's main branch found out who had dismantled their men in broad daylight, every cutthroat in the lower district would be hunting them by morning."Bravery has nothing to do with it," Kael replied, his voice a low, steady hum that cut straight through the ambient noise of the room. Hearing Vesperia's voice—and more importantly, her surname—sent a cold spark of recognition through his chest. Vance. The heavy rain pattered relentlessly against the slick cobblestones of the dead-end alley, washing away the grey grime that caked the damp brick walls. In the dim shadows cast by a broken street lamp, the larger thug lowered his heavy iron cudgel, his initial confidence faltering under the cold, piercing weight of Kael’s gaze."You've got a lot of nerve, playing hero in the Syndicate's back yard," the thug sneered, trying to mask his rising unease behind a tough exterior. He motioned to his companion, a wiry man holding a rusted dagger. "Slice him up, Vane. Teach this wanderer how things work in the lower wards."The wiry thug didn't hesitate. He lunged forward with surprising speed, thrusting the jagged blade straight toward Kael’s chest in a swift, horizontal arc.Kael stood completely still until the steel was inches away.
