The apartment was quiet.

Dante sat on the couch, staring at the wall. The morning sun streamed through the window, casting long shadows across the floor.

Three weeks had passed since the meeting with Connors. Three weeks of silence. Three weeks of nothing.

Naomi moved through the kitchen, making coffee. The sounds were familiar now. Comforting.

"You're doing it again," she said.

"Doing what?"

"Staring at nothing. Retreating into your head." She brought him a cup. "Talk to me."

Dante took the coffee. "I don't know what to say."

"Say what you're thinking."

He was silent for a moment. Then he spoke. "I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. For someone to come through the door. For the phone to ring with bad news."

Naomi sat beside him. "That's the paranoia talking. The network is gone. Connors is staying in his lane. It's over."

"Is it?" He looked at her. "I've been fighting for so long, I don't know how to stop."

Naomi took his hand. "Then we learn together. One day at a time."

Dante squeezed her hand. "I'm trying. I really am."

"I know. That's why I'm still here."

---

Later that day, Dante walked through the city streets.

The sun was warm. The people were busy. Life was going on around him, oblivious to the war he'd fought.

He passed the Watering Hole. Sully was outside, sweeping the sidewalk.

"Dante." Sully nodded. "Haven't seen you in a while."

"Been laying low."

"Good. You needed the rest." Sully leaned on his broom. "You hear about Viktor?"

Dante stopped. "What about him?"

"He's gone. Left town. Said he needed to find himself. Start fresh."

Dante nodded slowly. "I hope he finds what he's looking for."

"He will. He's got the fight in him." Sully studied Dante. "You've got the same fight. But you also got something he doesn't."

"What's that?"

"A reason to stay." Sully smiled. "That woman of yours. She's good for you."

Dante smiled despite himself. "She is."

"Then don't screw it up." Sully went back to sweeping.

Dante continued walking.

---

The park was crowded. Families. Couples. Children playing.

Dante sat on a bench, watching the chaos. It was overwhelming. Beautiful. Alive.

He'd never had this. Never known what it was like to be normal.

His phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number.

"I know you let Connors live. I know you think it's over. It's not. There's more coming. Be ready."

Dante stared at the message. His blood went cold.

He typed a reply. "Who is this?"

No response.

He tried again. "Answer me."

Nothing.

Dante stood. His hand moved to his weapon.

The park was still crowded. Still beautiful. Still alive.

But the shadows were there. Waiting.

He walked home quickly. Checked the apartment. Cleared every room.

Naomi was in the kitchen. "What's wrong?"

Dante showed her the message. "Someone knows. Someone's watching."

Naomi's face went pale. "Connors?"

"I don't know. Could be anyone."

"What do we do?"

Dante thought. "We lay low. We watch. We wait."

Naomi nodded. "I'll start packing."

---

The days that followed were tense. Every sound made Dante jump. Every shadow made him reach for his weapon.

But nothing happened. No threats. No messages. No attacks.

The silence was worse than the violence.

Naomi noticed. "You can't keep living like this."

"I know." He sat on the couch. "But I don't know how to stop."

"Then we find a way." She sat beside him. "Together."

Dante looked at her. The woman who'd betrayed him. The woman who'd come back. The woman who'd helped him find a reason to live.

"Thank you," he said. "For staying."

Naomi smiled. "I'm not going anywhere."

---

Another week passed. The messages stopped. The threats faded.

Dante started to relax. To believe it was over.

One evening, a knock came at the door.

Dante tensed. His hand moved to his weapon.

Naomi looked at him. "Who could it be?"

"I don't know." He moved to the door. Peered through the peephole.

Viktor stood in the hallway. His face was grim.

Dante opened the door. "I thought you left town."

"I did." Viktor stepped inside. "But I found something. Something you need to see."

Viktor pulled out a tablet. Showed Dante the screen.

A list. Names. Locations. Dates.

"The network isn't gone," Viktor said. "Connors was lying. It's just been reorganized. And now, they're after us."

Dante's blood went cold. "How many?"

"Twenty-three names. Active operatives. And they're all looking for you."

Dante stared at the list. His world tilted.

Naomi was beside him. "What do we do?"

Dante was silent for a moment. Then he spoke.

"We fight. Like we always have."

Naomi nodded. "Then we fight."

Viktor looked at them. "I'll help. Until the end."

Dante reached out. Clasped Viktor's hand. "Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet." Viktor's voice was hard. "We have a long road ahead."

Dante nodded. "Then we start now."

He walked to the window. The city sprawled below him. Beautiful. Dangerous.

The war wasn't over.

It was just beginning.

---

The three of them planned through the night. Studying the list. Identifying targets. Preparing for the fight.

Dante felt the old fire return. The purpose. The drive.

Naomi was beside him. Viktor was with them.

They weren't alone anymore.

Dante looked at the list. The faces. The names.

They would find them. They would stop them.

And this time, they wouldn't stop until the network was destroyed for good.

Dante stood. "Let's end this."

Naomi and Viktor rose.

They walked out of the apartment.

The night was dark. The stars were bright.

The hunt was on.

But she didn't look away."Three years ago," she began, "I was recruited by the network. Not by choice. They had my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't cooperate. I was young. Scared. I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing.
