"Bro, take a good look around this hotel; people are obscenely wealthy. You would have missed out on this if you allowed your sickness to keep you homebound, plus the remuneration is really satisfying.

"Don't you think I deserve an award as the best roommate for motivating you to come?" Audrey said, grinning widely as he was overwhelmed with enthusiasm.

He placed the hand towel he had been holding on Jason's face and turned to run off, but Jason was quick to catch him. He encircled his arm around Audrey's neck and reciprocated.

The two friends laughed out loud, but their laughter abruptly stopped when they saw an appropriately dressed man in his late twenties approaching. All the workers took a solid stance with their heads cocked up, looking very serious while their hands were folded behind their backs.

They wore matching white shirts with the hotel logo on them, paired with black trousers and black shoes. The workers had earlier been told that the manager of the hotel was coming to address them. Jason is gripped in fear while they wait for the man to get to where they are standing.

He prayed silently for the man not to think that he and Audrey weren't serious and eject them.

As the man got nearer, Jason took a closer look at him and observed that the manager was roughly the same age as him and Audrey. He felt embarrassed and reflected on how unfair life had been to him.

"Listen up, a high stalk holder of this hotel would be proposing to his girlfriend today in this hall. Our hotel, as you know, is a five-star hotel; we don't want a terrible reputation, so make sure you do as you are instructed and not otherwise.

To the part-timers here, one slight mistake and you would be kicked out without getting paid. Lastly, Mr. Jeff here would assign you to your jobs." The manager took a quick glance at Jason and Audrey and left the hall.

They were the only part-timers among the other workers, so the manager was definitely talking to them, and they were able to decode his message. Jason is to clean the hall alongside the toilet on the first floor, while other workers were assigned different tasks.

Audrey was among those who were to serve food and drinks to the customers on the second floor. Although he would have loved to stay with Jason in order to help him, knowing his health condition, he couldn't. Jason had just finished cleaning the hall and was about to proceed to wash the toilets.

Jason was starting to feel dizzy and for a moment, he regretted allowing Audrey's conviction to have any effect on him  but when he remembered the amount they were going to be paid, it motivated him to finish up quick. Jason and Audrey have been friends since they were in high school; they were both from a poor background as their parents weren't financially stable.

Unlike other students, they paid their tuition themselves and had to work extremely hard. The positive aspect of their friendship, which everyone admired, was how they supported each other in their hard times and let nothing and no one intimidate them.

Despite having less than other students, they were happy and contented.

There were about four toilets in which Jason had to wash, and although he wasn't feeling too well, he went ahead and washed the first one. While he was washing the second one, an elderly woman came to use the first one, and before leaving, she told Jason to clean it up again, and Jason wondered why.

After she left, he went ahead to check why the woman told him to clean it again, only to figure out that she had messed the toilet up. Jason felt disgusted and angry at the same time but couldn't do anything other than wash it again, or else he might not get paid.

Finally, he was about to wash the fourth one when he suddenly heard people screaming from the hall; they were all shouting like a celebrity had arrived.

Jason was reluctant to check out why people were screaming, but when the noise grew louder, he became curious and went out to check. From the bathroom door where he was standing, he couldn't see what was going on, but thankfully it was being displayed on a very huge screen.

At first, he still couldn't see anything because the overly joyful crowd was blocking the camera.

He waited for a few seconds more, desperately wanting to see what was going on. Suddenly, a man in his early thirties appeared on the screen; he had just come out of his flashy and expensive car. Jason's jaw dropped when he saw the car; it was the latest model of the Bugatti Veyron.

He had heard of the car and seen pictures of it, but it was his first time seeing it with his two naked eyes. He remembered Audrey's words earlier and muttered, "Indeed, people are rich." His eyes couldn't leave the young man approaching; his suit was made of cashmere fabric, and the hand-sewn collar, pick stitching, and buttonholes said all. He was a high-class business tycoon. Jason just noticed the beautiful bunch of roses he had on his left hand; all this while, he had his eyes on the man's car and suit.

Unexpectedly, the man kneeled down, slowly pulling out a ring box from his back pocket, and opened it. Everybody gasped at the sight of the pearl ring inside the box. He was proposing to someone, but the camera hasn't shown the person yet. Jason smiled and wished for the day he would do the same to his girlfriend. The scream got louder with the whole crowd shouting for the girl to accept the proposal.

Jason saw Mr. Jeff approaching and remembered he still had one toilet to wash. He took one last glance at the screen and turned to continue from where he stopped.

"Hold on, did I just see something?" What?!" Jason's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped as he suddenly froze. He couldn't breathe, move, shout, scream, cry, or do anything; neither did he realize when Mr. Jeff passed. Jason had just seen his girlfriend on the screen; she was the one being proposed to.

He felt devastated, betrayed, and for the first time, intimidated. She left him because he had nothing; he didn't have flashy cars; and because she was embarrassed to have him as a boyfriend.

That is why she kept their relationship a secret. Tears threatened to drop from Jason's eyes, but he bit his lip, preventing himself from crying; instead, he preferred to be filled with anger.

He suddenly became aware of his environment when she finally agreed to marry him, and everyone screamed for joy as the man suddenly kissed her passionately.

Jason suddenly felt dizzy and sat on the floor. He couldn't believe what he just witnessed and hoped that it was a dream, but unfortunately it wasn't.
