I’m jolted awake by the sound of my phone ringing. I opened my eyes and the morning light shone through the curtains

Stifling a yawn, I grab my phone from my bedside table.

And looked at the screen, it was Sarah.

I answered and brought it up to my ear

“I'm listening,” I say, and she began to talk

After a minute or two she hangs up the phone, I don't know how to feel about what she just told me, will it help us or, it give me more time to prepare though, one can never be too prepared for a murder trial.

I stretched out on the bed and that's when I realized I was naked. The memories from yesterday come flooding back to me.

“Oh my god” I cover my face, blushing.

I felt my stomach twist

God. What the hell have I done?

I sat up carefully, pressing a hand to my forehead, trying to ground myself. I had been reckless last night, explosive—everything I had sworn I'd never let happen. He is my client. A man accused of murder. A man I was supposed to defend in court, not fall into bed with.

Manuel’s POVAfter what happened at the police station, I had called Jill over a thousand times. Texted her too. I understood.Later that night, Sarah texted me. She said she’d be handling my case from now on; relaying information to me from Jill. Told me to be at court at 7:45 a.m. sharp. That’s when I knew. Jill was done with me.She was irate. She wanted nothing to do with me.Now it was the day of my trial.I was standing outside the courthouse, waiting. Waiting for Sarah. Waiting for Jill.To say I was nervous would be an understatement.I was terrified.Fearful.My hands wouldn’t stop shaking. My knees felt like rubber.A few minutes later, I saw them.Jill and Sarah walked in Jill didn’t even glance at me. She moved past like I was part of the bench. Like I didn’t exist.I don’t blame her.She walks ahea

Manuel's POV I waited for Jill to get showered, dressed and I waited for her downstairs. She came downstairs in her normal attire; a pantsuit and her louboutin heels. She was dressed in black, ready to kill. The red lip made her look more sexy. She walked past me without a glance, I strutted behind her like a lost puppy. She drove us to the police station in silence.I didn't think it'd be weird if we showed up together. My trial was supposed to have started anyways. We met her assistant, Sarah at the police parking lot. “Tell me everything.” Jill ordered “After I called you to tell you about the judge, one of my contacts at the police station called me to tell me one of the door men at the hotel came forward, the man allegedly saw Cassidy alive after Manuel left. His name is George Wilson” Sarah explained. Jill listened to her attentively, absorbing all the information she could.I just stood there in the side lines, watching.“Why is he just coming forward now, where has been al

The door slammed shut behind them. Jill shoved Manuel against it, not breaking the kiss once. She continued to kiss him hard, with no tenderness she kissed him fiercely, her finger tangled in his hair, pulling him closerManual lifted her, her leg wrapped around his waist, and he moved them to the wooden table in the foyer. His hand roamed her legs until it got to the waistband of her sweatpants. There was no hesitation in his movement, just desperation and hunger. Her nails scraped his neck as he gripped her waist, pulling her closer, their mouths clashing, fighting for dominance. He peeled off her sweatpants and with one hard pull ripped her black lace panties into two.She gasped as his fingers found their way to her entrance. She was soaked, wet, and ready for anything he would do to her. Manuel knew this, and that caused a wicked grin to appear on his face.He used his fingers to draw circles around her clit, coating his hands with her wetness. He brought them to his mouth and su

The Final meeting. Jill had had her fair search of shock today. The bottle of wine did nothing to calm her nerves. She walked up to her bathroom. She stripped off her clothes and went into the bathtub. Jill had lived in her house for almost 5 years and she had used the bathtub a handful of times. It was the only thing she renovated when she moved in, the bathroom. She added a clawfoot tub that cost a fortune but never had time to use it. She was always busy. Too busy with her work, nothing else. The truth of the matter was Jill was lonely, she had no friends, she didn't have a close relationship with her parents and she was an only child. She had so much money but didn't go on vacations, trips, or anywhere else. She hated being idle, she hated the voices in her head too. She was in the bathtub until she felt serene. She got out, got dressed, and made her way back to her living room. She turned on the television, ordered some food, and waited for it to come. The loud ding-dong ec

Jills POV I took the box, the phone, the letter and went to my house. I hadn’t left the house ever since.I usually stayed home the day before any trial, that explains why my phone hasn’t been ringing since then. But why was I still on edge, every time I heard a noise, all the hairs on my body stood on their ends.I felt a sense of dread, could feel the impending danger, I was apprehensive.I sat in my study waiting for the phone to come back to life, I held the letter in my hands, still unopened. The box contained 8 million dollars, why did someone need so much cash, was it to pay someone off? Or maybe to run away?Did Cassidy try to run away? Was she killed before she was able to flee? How did Kai even know about this apartment? This case is so much deeper than I imagined. I thought it’d be a slam dunk, but I can’t even say who wanted her dead. This woman was something, or she knew something, something bad. That’s the only reason why someone would target an interior designer li
