[The Gallery is in complete disarray!]

[The Gallery-being 'The Crowned Ember' is hurling burning insults across the broadcast feed!]

[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' is demanding an administrative explanation for your rejection!]

[The Gallery-being 'The Seven-Faced Penitent' mourns your lack of humility.]

[The Gallery-being 'The Hollow Cartographer' is watching your channel with narrowed, dangerous eyes.]

Noël ignored the flood of red System messages flashing before his vision.

"B-Boss!" Tally squawked, floating closer until its tiny beak-like nose nearly touched Noël's cheek. "You just rejected four major Gallery sponsors! In the history of the lower regional nodes, no Tier 1 vagrant has ever turned down four direct Patronage Contracts at once!"

"Then today is the first," Noël replied.

"They're going to boycott our channel!" Tally shrieked, clutching its ears. "Our subscriber count is going to crash! The Spire Auditors will demote me to a broom spirit!"

"They won't boycott."

"Why wouldn't they?!"

"Because entities who spend thousands of Tribute on entertainment hate being ignored even more than they hate being insulted."

Tiiiing!

[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' has deposited 1,000 Tribute to demand why you think you do not need a sponsor.]

[The Gallery-being 'The Crowned Ember' has deposited 2,000 Tribute, declaring that you will die in the next Trial within five minutes.]

[Current Tribute: 15,900]

Tally stared at the System alerts, its monocle dropping into its open mouth.

"T-They're paying Tribute just to insult you?!"

"So it seems," Noël said, turning back to the Registry Terminal. "Spite is a far more reliable source of revenue than gratitude."

Gideon leaned against the black brass pillar and let out a long, weary sigh. He rubbed his temples with his leather-gloved fingers.

"I don't know whether you're a tactical genius or a complete lunatic, Noël," Gideon said softly. "You just insulted four entity seats, earned three thousand Tribute from their anger, and managed to look like you planned it all along."

"I did plan it," Noël lied.

In truth, he hadn't expected the Crowned Ember to sponsor two thousand Tribute out of pure rage.

But in the 3rd timeline, he had learned a fundamental truth about the Gallery: entities who watched mortal struggles were ultimately consumers. Give them a predictable hero who obeyed every contract, and they grew bored after a few episodes.

Give them a loose cannon who treated divine patronage like junk mail, and they would pay just to see what happened next.

"Lyra. Elara."

Lyra adjusted her supply pack and stepped forward alongside Elara.

"We're ready, Noël. What's the next step?"

"We leave the lower ring," Noël said. "Malakor's enforcers have vacated the upper plaza, but his scouts will be monitoring the main gate terminals. We need to register for the Spire Trial at an unregistered node."

"An unregistered node?" Gideon frowned. "Those are located in the subterranean sewers beneath the old Aethelgard aqueducts."

"Exactly. Which means Malakor cannot track our registration packet."

Noël turned to the tiny Clerk-Spirit.

"Tally, prepare our broadcast license. We're registering under 'Independent Contractor Group: Gear-Breakers'."

Tally puffed out its tiny chest and pulled an ink quill from behind its ear.

"I'm on it, Boss! Channel #809-Tally is officially filing the independent expedition permit!"

They navigated through the damp stone tunnels beneath Sector Three Sanctuary.

The lower aqueducts were cold and dark. Calcified Aethelgard pipes lined the walls, humming with stagnant ether. The air carried the sharp smell of ozone and old iron.

Through his Gyre Eye, Noël could see the glowing conduit lines of the regional grid stretching overhead like thin blue threads. Sector Three's structural stability remained intact, but the forced advancement of Main Trial #8 had left hairline fractures in the spatial boundaries.

The timeline is accelerating.

His left pupil pulsed with a faint violet light.

[Mnemonic Ledger: 11 / 60 Fractures]

The silver Chronometer of the Unseen Clerk inside his vest vibrated gently against his chest, cooling the dull ache behind his temples.

Eleven fractures.

If the timeline accelerated too quickly, the mental bleed-through could reach twelve before they even cleared the initial trials.

Noël forced the thought aside and kept walking.

After twenty minutes, they arrived at a sunken stone chamber. An ancient, rusted Aethelgard Registry Terminal stood in the center, half-submerged in clear ether-water.

"An ancient 2nd Dynasty node..." Gideon murmured, studying the stone architecture. "This terminal hasn't been serviced by the Spire in centuries."

"That's why it's perfect," Noël replied.

He stepped into the shallow ether-water, placed his hand against the cold stone interface, and channelled a pulse of ether directly into the circuit core. His Gyre Eye guided the energy through the correct connections.

Tiiiing!

[Unregistered Ancient Node #09 Detected!]

[Reading Entrant Credentials...]

[Entrant: Noël Voss (Tier 1 Gear-Breaker)]

[Party Members: Gideon Vance (Tier 1), Lyra Thorne (Tier 0), Elara (Tier 0)]

[Broadcast Channel: #809-Tally (Independent Contractor)]

The stone obelisk lit up with a bright emerald glow.

[Main Trial #9 Registration Available!]

[Trial Title: 'The Trial of Unmade Men']

[Category: Main / Regional Advancement]

[Difficulty: Tier 1: High Lethal]

[Objective: Navigate the Frozen Manor of House Aethelgard, resolve the Echo Soldiers, and claim the Central Keystone.]

[Clear Compensation: 12,000 Tribute, Tier 1 Advancement for Non-Tiered Party Members, Sovereign Legacy Fragment.]

Gideon read the System window, his expression turning cold.

"'The Trial of Unmade Men'? That's a historical anomaly instance. The inhabitants of House Aethelgard were erased from history during the 1st Cataclysm."

"Echo Soldiers," Lyra whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "Specters that fight to be recognized?"

"Yes," Noël replied calmly. "If you attack them with weapons, they split into duplicate entities. The more ether you unleash against them, the stronger they become."

Gideon drew his rapier halfway from its sheath.

"Then how are we supposed to defeat an army of spectral soldiers that multiply when struck?"

Noël studied the glowing green interface.

"We aren't going to fight them."

"W-We aren't?" Tally squeaked.

"To be exact, we're going to speak their names."

Tiiiing!

[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' leans forward, instantly recognizing the historical loophole!]

[The Gallery-being 'The Crowned Ember' groans in frustration, realizing another bloodless exploit is coming!]

[The Gallery-being 'The Hollow Cartographer' is rapidly adjusting its archival notes!]

[1,500 Tribute has been sponsored!]

[Current Tribute: 17,400]

Noël pressed Confirm on the ancient stone console.

[Registration Complete!]

[Main Trial #9: 'The Trial of Unmade Men' will commence in 00:10:00!]

[Prepare for spatial transfer!]

He turned to his party and adjusted the collar of his trench coat as emerald light began to envelop their bodies.

"Get ready," he said softly. "We're going to dissolve a noble house."

It was a monumental monolithic pillar devoid of windows. Its black surface was carved with thousands of pulsing crimson runes that thrummed with immense weight."The ambient pressure here is three times higher than in the lower towers," Gideon said. He leaned on his right foot, his silver rapier drawn, its white-gold solar ether flickering against the gale. "My ether flow is lagging.""Keep your breathing steady," Noël said, wiping sweat and blood from his chin. Cold abyss wind howled across the narrow stone sky-bridge connecting the First and Second Spires.Eight hundred feet below, sea-clouds of white mana fog churned over the jagged obsidian peaks."The wind resistance on this bridge is fluctuating," Gideon noted, his cloak snapping violently behind him. The Second Spire isn't built from solid stone like the first."Through the swirling haze, the Second Spire loomed before them like a hollow iron cage.Unlike the solid obsidian walls of the First Spire, the Second Spire was composed entirely of thousands of rotating brass gear-platforms, suspended in midair around a pulsing blue energy core."A mechanical puzzle spire," Lyra said, her eyes brightening beneath her helmet visor. She pulled out her brass tuning spanner, her Tier 1 Artificer vision scanning the gear rotations. "The platforms are moving on three independent axis gears. If you step onto a plat
