The ash fog grew thicker as they entered the Narrow Throat, a jagged canyon pass where the crumbling obsidian cliffs of the Desolate Corridor compressed into a bottleneck less than twenty yards wide.
The wind howled through the narrow rock faces, carrying the sharp, metallic tang of oxidized ether. "Noël," Gideon called out, his boots crunching against the frosted gravel. He slowed his pace, his right hand resting firmly on the hilt of his silver rapier. "The air is too still inside this pass. No wind Currents are flowing through the upper ledges." "An artificial wind break," Noël said, pulling his collar higher. "Syndicate?" "Worse," he replied, opening his left eye. His left pupil burned with a deep violet light as the Gyre Eye activated. Through the murky haze of the canyon, the Structural lines of the rock faces were laced with trip-wires. Thin threads of dark ether stretched across the narrow pass. Behind the boulders on the high ledges, five figures in jagged scrap armor waited with heavy iron broadswords and repeating Crossbows. [Entity Detected: Wasteland Outrider Scavengers (Tier 1)] Classification: Rogue Mercenary Strike Team Count: 5 [Leader: Iron-Claw Varak (Tier 1 Peak)] These were not Syndicate soldiers bound by contractual protocols or administrative rank. They were wasteland scavengers, rogue pathfinders who ambushed weakened teams leaving the lower regional Sanctuaries to loot their gear and Tribute tokens. Click. A heavy iron Crossbolt fired from the upper ledge, Shooting through the fog straight toward Lyra's head. Hwiiik! "Lyra, duck!" Elara barked. Elara lunged forward, Sweeping her Radiant Lancer spear upward in a sharp arc. Clang! The spearhead struck the iron bolt mid-air, deflecting it into the cliff wall, where it shattered into iron Splinters. "Ambusher on the ridge!" Gideon shouted, drawing his rapier. Solar ether flared along his blade, illuminating three figures leaping down from the boulders above. "Don't let them establish a perimeter!" Noël ordered, drawing his Aethelgard combat blade. "Gideon, take the two on the right! Elara, hold the left choke point!" "What about the leader?!" Gideon asked, parrying a heavy overhead Swing from a broadsword-wielding scavenger. "He's mine." Whooooosh! A hulking man in spiked iron plate, Iron-Claw Varak, dropped from a twenty-foot ledge, Slamming his massive spiked war-hammer onto the canyon floor right in front of Noël. Kaaa-booom! The stone floor cracked, Sending a shockwave of shattered rock and dust flying outward. 'Void-Weaver's Tread.' Pft! His body blurred, executing an instantaneous spatial leap that placed him behind Varak's left shoulder before his war-hammer could rebound from the stone. Noël planted his heels firmly, using his enhanced Tier 1 Strength to drive his Aethelgard blade toward the exposed seam in Varak's neck armor. Puuu-shk! "Gah!" Varak growled, flinching as blood sprayed from his neck. Despite the strike, he didn't collapse. As a Tier 1 Peak warrior who had survived in the Outer Wasteland for years, his physical resilience was exceptionally high. He spun around with terrifying momentum, swinging his heavy steel elbow toward Noël's jaw. Kack! Noël raised his left forearm to block, but the sheer force of the blow rattled his teeth and pushed him back three paces across the gravel. "Little rat!" Varak roared, his eyes bloodshot beneath his rusted helmet. "You think a tiny spatial step is enough to kill a wasteland veteran?!" He surged forward, swinging his war-hammer in a horizontal sweep meant to crush Noël's ribs. Noël didn't retreat. With his Agility enhanced to Lv. 50, he could follow Varak's movements with exceptional clarity. He ducked beneath the whistling head of the war-hammer, feeling the hot rush of air brush against his hair. He closed the distance, Stepping inside Varak's guard. Noël grabbed his arm joint with his left hand, halting his momentum, then drove his right knee into his solar plexus. Thump! "Kuh...!" Varak gasped, his breath hitching. Without pausing, Noël channeled his Gyre Ether directly into the hilt of his combat blade. He drove the point into Varak's right shoulder joint and twisted it forty-five degrees. Cr-crack! Varak's right arm went limp. His heavy war-hammer dropped onto the cobblestones with a thud. "Gideon! Now!" Noël shouted. Off to the right, Gideon had already driven his rapier through the chest of his Second opponent. Hearing Noël's call, he pivoted on his heel, his solar ether flaring bright gold. "Solar Flash!" Gideon bellowed, thrusting his rapier forward. A blinding pulse of golden light erupted from the blade tip, striking Varak squarely in his exposed chest plate. Kaaaa-bang! The heat-impact shattered Varak's chest armor, Sending his heavy frame backward into the canyon wall. He slumped against the stone, unconscious and badly wounded, his weapon clattering across the rocks. Seeing their leader fall, the remaining two scavengers broke formation and scrambled up the cliff walls. "Should I pursue?!" Elara panted, her spear tip dripping with dark blood. "No," Noël said, wiping his blade on a clean patch of cloth. "Conserve your ether. We don't waste energy on fleeing scouts." Gideon sheathed his rapier, breathing heavily as he looked at the five defeated scavengers. "Their coordination was sharp. If we hadn't reacted immediately, they would have trapped us in the bottleneck." "That is how the Outer Corridor operates," Noël said, picking up a leather pouch from Varak's waist. [Loot Acquired: 6,000 Tribute Tokens] [Item Acquired: Refined Ether Core (Tier 1)] [Current Tribute: 53,900] Tally hovered out from beneath Noël's coat collar, adjusting its monocle with a tiny glove. "Boss... that was close! Their physical stat density was nearly equal to ours!" "They were experienced," Noël noted, stowing the ether core in his vest pocket beside the Chronometer of the Unseen Clerk. Lyra walked forward and inspected the mechanical gears of a discarded repeating Crossbow. "The Crossbows were modified with Aethelgard spring-coils. The scavengers must have taken them from old supply convoys." "Keep the spring-coils, Lyra," Noël said. "You can use the parts to reinforce our armor joints later." "Understood!" Lyra nodded, quickly dismantling the weapon with her toolkit. Noël turned toward the exit of the Narrow Throat. Through the thinning ash fog ahead, the terrain opened into a wide, paved stone highway. Floating high above the horizon were four massive brass rings suspended in mid-air, the regional transit arches of the Pathfinder Capital. Gideon walked up beside him, staring at the distant golden arches. "The lower gates of the Capital. We've officially crossed the Desolate Corridor." "The real trials start inside those gates," Noël said softly, adjusting his trench coat. He checked the silver pocket watch in his vest. The three cracks on its glass face remained still, but the internal gears hummed with a quiet, steady rhythm. "Let's move," he said. "We have a capital to enter."Latest Chapter

The white light of the Trial exit portal faded, depositing the party onto the high marble balcony of the Capital Central Registry.Around them, the grand entrance hall of the Middle Ring was silent. Hundreds of spectators, merchant representatives, and noble house scouts stood frozen along the terraced walkways, staring up at the giant blue projection screens suspended above the concourse.[Regional Qualification Trial: 'The Spires of Aethelgard' : FINAL RESULTS]1st Place: Team 'House Falcrest Auxiliary' (Clear Time: 48m 12s)2nd Place: Team 'First Academy Cadets' (Disqualified / Eliminated)3rd Place: Team 'Sterling Retainers' (Disqualified / Eliminated)The ledger had closed.Julian Falcrest stood beside Noël, his golden broadsword sheathed at his belt. His hands were still trembling, but he held his chin up, absorbing the stunned gazes of the noble onlookers. For the first time in three years, House Falcrest held a primary seat on the Trade Council."They really cleared all five S

The sky-bridge dissolved into a pillar of white light, delivering the party onto the open summit of the Fifth Spire. They stood on a broad circular arena of polished black marble suspended beneath the open sky. Thousands of feet below, the cloud layer churned in grey swirls, while high above, the golden arches of the Capital's transit rings hummed with atmospheric power. At the center of the arena floated the Fifth Keystone Seal, a radiant golden orb illuminating the sky-platform.Three figures stood before it.At their head was Crown Cadet Gerald of the First Capital Academy, a tall man clad in dragon-scale plate armor. He held a massive six-foot greatsword in his right hand, its blade crackling with deep purple lightning ether. Beside him stood two heavy tower-shield guardians bearing the crest of the High Council.Gerald had already claimed two sub-seals from the lower Spires. He turned his cold, golden eyes toward the bruised party as they stepped onto the marble arena."Julian Fa

The upper archway led them onto a narrow sky-bridge suspended between the Third and Fourth Spires. Here, a thousand feet above the cloud layer, the icy wind burned Noël's lungs with every breath. The Fourth Spire, the Spire of Obsidian Seals, stood before them. It was a monumental monolithic pillar devoid of windows. Its black surface was carved with thousands of pulsing crimson runes that thrummed with immense weight."The ambient pressure here is three times higher than in the lower towers," Gideon said. He leaned on his right foot, his silver rapier drawn, its white-gold solar ether flickering against the gale. "My ether flow is lagging.""Keep your breathing steady," Noël said, wiping sweat and blood from his chin. "The Fourth Spire tests physical endurance."Elara adjusted her grip on her Radiant Lancer spear."Noël... someone is waiting at the entrance."Standing before the massive iron doors of the Fourth Spire was a single figure. He was a giant of a man, clad in heavy obsidia

The iron platform of the elevator conduit Shuddered as it ascended into the Central Shaft of the Third Spire.Below them, the rotating gear-mechanisms of the Second Spire Shrank into tiny brass discs over the cloud layer. High above, the inner ceiling of the Third Spire was Shrouded in indigo mist, crackling with purple lightning."The air Pressure is dropping," Gideon said, leaning against his rapier hilt on the vibrating platform. "My solar ether is reacting strangely to the ambient mana in this shaft."Lyra checked her ether-compass, her brows furrowed beneath her visor."It's not just mana Pressure. The Third Spire has an inverted gravity field. Look at the ledges."Through the swirling indigo mist, thousands of inverted stone pillars hung from the ceiling like giant stalactites, pointing downward into the abyss. Winding staircases ran upside-down along vaulted arches.Julian Falcrest gripped the railing, his knuckles white against his golden gauntlets."Upside-down staircases? Ho

Cold abyss wind howled across the narrow stone sky-bridge connecting the First and Second Spires.Eight hundred feet below, sea-clouds of white mana fog churned over the jagged obsidian peaks."The wind resistance on this bridge is fluctuating," Gideon noted, his cloak snapping violently behind him. He kept one hand firmly on the hilt of his silver rapier. "Look at the archways ahead. The Second Spire isn't built from solid stone like the first."Through the swirling haze, the Second Spire loomed before them like a hollow iron cage.Unlike the solid obsidian walls of the First Spire, the Second Spire was composed entirely of thousands of rotating brass gear-platforms, suspended in midair around a pulsing blue energy core."A mechanical puzzle spire," Lyra said, her eyes brightening beneath her helmet visor. She pulled out her brass tuning spanner, her Tier 1 Artificer vision scanning the gear rotations. "The platforms are moving on three independent axis gears. If you step onto a plat

The remaining two Blood-Hound mercenaries backed away along the frost-slicked walkway, their broadswords trembling against the howling abyss wind.Seeing three squad members eliminated in under twenty seconds had shattered their discipline."Fall back into the tower interior!" the lead survivor shouted, his voice cracking beneath his steel visor. "The bottleneck favors us inside!"The two mercenaries turned to sprint through the archway into the First Spire."Gideon," Noël said, stepping forward. "Don't let them retreat.""Understood!" Gideon roared.Whooooosh!Gideon sprang forward like a silver arrow. His boots shattered the frosted stone as he channeled white-gold solar ether along his rapier."Solar Aspect: Radiant Flash!"Kaaa-shing!A streak of golden light erupted from Gideon's blade, slicing horizontally across the stone archway.
