CHAPTER 7

The slight scar on Desmond’s head was the result of hitting his head on a rock-like stone at the orphanage home.

He had pushed Tatiana away from danger that year, saving her life. After receiving treatment, only a faint mark remained.

Oh my God! The very person he had nearly lost his life for, risking everything to rescue her, enduring the pain of the injury, and suffering through the treatment, had not only betrayed him but had also laughed at what she caused.

If fate had been unkind, it could have been her life lost instead.

He had shielded her from death, yet she showed nothing but ungratefulness.

The cheating, the divorce, and now this? Laughing at him, mocking his efforts, belittling him as if he were worthless?

Desmond instantly shook off the thought.

It was all in the past and no longer mattered.

What mattered now was finding the one who had been there for him in his darkest times.

"Since all your big talk has led nowhere, it only proves that you’re just an empty barrel making the loudest noise," Alex scoffed, annoyed.

"But I’ll do you a favor," he continued, turning to Desmond with a smug expression. "I’ll send her two million dollars, just enough to wipe out your dream of buying her the best package at the finest housing estate."

Tatiana leaned her head against Alex’s broad chest, smiling up at him.

"I'm glad I met such a generous man like you," she said sweetly.

"At least someone with real proof of wealth, not just empty bragging."

As she spoke, she cast Desmond a look of pure disdain, as if he were nothing more than a bothersome insect.

"It’s nothing, just a small token of what I can offer you," Alex replied smoothly.

He then turned his gaze back to Desmond, waiting for a reaction, hoping to enjoy his humiliation.

But Desmond’s face remained unreadable.

"Desmond, by now, you should be groveling at Alex's feet, thanking him for helping you out," Tatiana sneered.

"If not …”

"Dear, can we leave now?" she cut herself off, turning to Alex.

"You know we have other places to be. Enough time wasted on this clown."

"At least we got a good laugh," Alex chuckled.

They both laughed again before turning to leave, but Desmond didn’t utter a word. They no longer mattered to him.

Once, he had held Tatiana in high regard, but now, he had no energy left to engage in any battle with her.

She was no longer significant, not even a little.

As they walked away, Desmond’s thoughts shifted to the young girl.

His priorities were elsewhere.

He left immediately for Arthur Harrison's office—the acting president and vice president of Zenith Lux.

Upon entering the first room before the vice president's office, he found a huge, tall, well-built man surrounded by three other men frantically arranging documents.

Though the air conditioning was on, they were sweating profusely, concentrating on the papers, and struggling to get everything in order.

When they heard a footstep, they raised their gaze to know who it was.

"Oh! Mr. President!"

The tall man’s voice rang out the moment he spotted Desmond.

"G-Good day, Sir," Arthur stammered, rushing forward, his mind racing.

He abandoned what he was doing to properly greet Desmond.

He recognized him instantly. Nicholas had described him well.

At the mention of "Mr. President," the other two men immediately halted their tasks and bowed in greeting.

"I'm so sorry for the delay, Sir," Arthur apologized quickly.

"The workers at Everest Consortium didn’t process the order immediately. They thought a single person couldn't purchase the highest package just like that."

"They didn’t take it seriously until Mr. Everstone intervened and personally called the CEO. That whole process caused a delay, Sir."

A faint smile crossed Desmond’s lips as he nodded in understanding.

"Mr. Arthur Harrison?" Desmond asked, confirming the identity of the tall man before him.

"Yes, Sir. Just call me Arthur." the man replied, immediately adjusting his stance to stand properly before Desmond.

"I apologize once again, Sir. It was never our intention to inconvenience you by making you come here for the housing receipt."

Arthur’s voice wavered slightly, worried that Desmond might be displeased and issue a sanction.

And why wouldn’t he be nervous?

The man before him held immense power, even more than his own boss- Nicholas Everstone.

If Desmond were to reveal his true identity, no one would dare challenge him.

The country’s officials were practically at his fingertips.

To put it simply, Arthur’s career and financial stability directly or indirectly depended on Desmond.

Even if he chose to start his own business one day, its success would still have to pass through Zenith Lux’s review.

"It’s fine," Desmond responded casually.

"I knew the process would take some time."

Arthur let out a breath of relief.

His tensed-up mind finally eased.

In all his years working under different bosses before becoming Zenith Lux's vice president, he had never encountered one as calm and composed as Desmond.

Most executives would have lashed out, especially in a situation like this.

He had expected strictness, even cruelty.

But it was a big surprise to him that Desmond was different.

"Thank you, Sir," Arthur said sincerely, grateful for Desmond’s patience.

He wasted no time, rushing to finalize the arrangement.

Within a few seconds, he had neatly packed the documents and handed them over.

"Sir, here are the papers for the house," Arthur said, bowing slightly as he stretched the file toward Desmond.

"The highest package, registered under Tatiana Lancaster’s name, as you ordered."

Whooping Wow! A house of two billion dollars plus, bought in under one hour.

If it could be spelled in one phrase, then that would be “Massive!”

Desmond took the documents, his expression unreadable.

For a moment, he stared at the papers in his hand.

The very thing Tatiana had laughed at, the very thing she believed impossible, was now a reality.

If only she knew, maybe she would not have mocked him, but in the end, she was the real clown.

Desmond initially didn’t want to respond, he had intended to ignore any sort of mess coming from the crowd. But the bully persisted.“Do you think those who invested in UBEX are trash like you? And you think it’s fifty dollars they invested? What am I even saying? Can you even afford ten dollars for investment, not to mention fifty?”Desmond halted and turned to see who the voice belonged to. It was Helena Lancaster—Tatiana’s mother. He wasn’t entirely surprised. Helena was like a hawk that would snatch any scent of money, no matter how foul. So it wasn’t shocking to find her buzzing around this kind of crowd.People who never care whether they tread the right or wrong path in pursuit of wealth always end up tangled in disgrace like this.Helena had sunk about a million dollars into the Ponzi scheme. Now, she was unable to retrieve both the money and the promised profit, and she still had the guts to puff up her chest and bark.“Oh, thank you,” Desmond said coolly. “I hope you're enjo

Immediately, the healthcare professionals began their work. The treatment was intense, it was an aggressive combination of immunotherapy, personalized medication adjustments, and rigorous physiotherapy sessions. But before they even began, the team had already accessed Delphine’s complete medical history, which Arthur had secured swiftly through official channels. Her previous hospital had shared everything digitally, ranging from test results to treatment logs and ensuring no detail was slipped through the cracks. They moved with such precision and urgency, it almost felt like Delphine could recover that very day.Indeed, these weren’t just any doctors, they were the best oncologists available.Camilla sorted through the gift items Desmond had bought for Delphine. She deeply cherished the thoughtful gesture, especially the products. They were from some of the finest, most luxurious brands money could buy.She found herself wondering how he managed to get such things. The last time he

This was just a whole lot for Camilla to figure out.Any medical care given under business owners registered with Zenith Lux Affairs was usually minimal. They are just basic health coverage that the company offers to regular clients. It helped with recovery, yes, but never for something as critical as this.Even those in the ultra-exclusive tier, with access to top-tier medical attention, hadn't received anything quite like this.Wow!Doctors were being flown in from abroad, and not just any doctors, but confirmed, elite specialists, all for Delphine's health? There had to be more to this.Who was the mysterious president of Zenith Lux?Could it be the same person who had plucked her from nowhere and promoted her to the top of the ultra-exclusive stage? It was something Camilla would definitely want to find out.Could it be Desmond? He was the only one who knew about most of the major things. But Desmond? No way.“But… Mr. Harrison, please, can I know who the president is?” Camilla as

Desmond squinted, leaning in to get a clearer view. The box in Sterling’s hand looked unmistakably familiar. It resembled the very one he had used to gift Felix Grayson a rare wristwatch during the party held in celebration of Felix’s promotion. As Desmond lifted his eyes, the person holding the box came into full view.It was Sterling Belmont.Felix’s friend. The same rude young man who had scoffed at Desmond at the party over that same wristwatch.Desmond’s chest tightened. That wasn’t what bothered him the most at that moment, but the thought lingered. What could he be doing with the box?Why bring it to a gallery store still wrapped? Was he trying to sell it? Or swap it?If it truly belonged to him, shouldn’t it be on his wrist? And if he intended to sell it, where was Felix? And did they seriously believe they could pawn such a rare item? A wristwatch crafted in a limited edition, reserved for only a few elites.Desmond thought bitterly. What claim could they even make about how

“First, I must commend your customer service in this store. Your staff have really done well,” Desmond said, pointing to the two staff standing nervously in front of him.Although they had acted weirdly a few minutes ago trying to snatch his items. But their initial approach had said it all, they were mannered. They say the first impression lasts longer. If it weren’t for the mannerless manager who instructed them to get the items from Desmond forcefully, things would have probably gone smoothly. He wouldn't blame the two staff. Mercer was their boss, and Desmond understood that they dared not disobey his command. If they did, they’d face consequences, might be queries, more difficult tasks, or even, the loss of their jobs. So, Desmond understood that they had no choice but to follow orders.Upon hearing Desmond’s statement, Rowan nodded with a smile. He was pleased to hear such comments from someone so powerful.Maybe, just maybe, if Desmond passed that same commendation to Arthur,

Mercer was growing irritated seeing Desmond pressing his phone and smiling, completely ignoring him as he yelled. He had expected Desmond to react, maybe storm out in shame. But to his surprise, Desmond neither spoke a word nor moved from where he stood. So, Mercer escalated his mockery.“You must be a master at pretending. Focusing on your phone like I’m not here yelling at you.”“Who the hell knows you, anyway? Why smiling at your phone”“Don't worry, you’ll find out in less than five minutes,” Desmond replied sharply. He dialed Rowan’s number, and it was picked up almost immediately like the man had been anticipating the call.“Hello, who am I speaking with, please?” A bold male voice came through the speaker.“I’m Desmond Ashford. If this is Rowan, I want you at the store immediately, in the personal care items section.” Desmond said firmly, his tone leaving no room for hesitation.“Oh, Sir! I’ll be there right away!”“Your time has started counting.”At that moment, the once-comp
