CHAPTER 6
“Now your wings have grown.
If you aren’t a liar from the pit of hell, then explain the letter! Where did you get the pendant?
“It’s truly a pity that I once married you. You were never my match, it was just an unworthy mistake.”
She scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.
“It only proves that you’re not just a penniless orphan but someone whose common sense is completely derailed.”
“Again, Desmond, I demand compensation. If not, you’ll regret this.”
Desmond, drained of his last bit of energy, barely reacted.
He had no interest in her theatrics anymore.
They were divorced now and that was all that mattered.
And to top it off, she wasn’t even the person he had believed her to be.
What else was left? He just needed to leave.
“What do you want?” he asked calmly.
If giving her what she wanted meant ending this drama once and for all, Desmond was ready.
He had more important things to focus on—like finding the right girl.
Tatiana’s eyes widened slightly at his response.
She hadn’t expected her destitute, trash ex-husband to fold so easily.
What could he even afford for him to ask what she wanted? What did he have?
She let out a mocking laugh, shaking her head.
“I want you to buy me a house at Everest Consortium.”
Her smirk deepened.
She was certain Desmond couldn’t afford even the smallest unit in the most expensive estate in Halcyon City.
How could he? Not even by a stroke of luck.
He was a loser through and through.
Tatiana kept her gaze fixed on him, eager to see his expression twist in humiliation.
She imagined him stammering, wishing the ground would open up and swallow him whole from the sheer embarrassment of not being able to provide what she asked for.
But to her utmost shock,
“Alright, consider it done. Give me a few minutes.”
Desmond agreed without hesitation, his tone indifferent, almost dismissive—like he didn’t want her to utter another word.
Tatiana blinked in disbelief.
“Are you sure you heard me? It’s a house. In an estate. Not just any estate, the best in the city and the highest package, worth two billion dollars plus.” she said, her tone mean.
“You don’t need to explain the entirety. You’ll get it,” Desmond replied coldly.
He knew exactly what she was doing.
She wanted to make a fool of him, to watch him squirm under the weight of an impossible demand.
But she had no idea, he wasn’t the same Desmond anymore.
“Okay then,” she sneered.
“Are you sending me the money to get it right now? Or are you buying it in my name and handing me the files and receipts—right here, on the spot?”
“Calm. You’ll get the files in a few minutes.”
Tatiana got angrier even more by the way he talked to her.
She couldn’t wait to see how this so-called miracle would unfold.
And if it didn’t?
She would make sure Desmond paid for wasting her time.
Every single moment of it.
Desmond fumbled for his phone in his pocket and pulled out a button phone with a cracked screen, its faded figures barely visible.
If not for the fact that he had already mastered the keypad through years of use, an average person wouldn’t even know how to operate it.
He scrolled through his contacts, found Nicholas Everstone’s number, and dialed.
“Hello, Nicholas Everstone. I need you to get in touch with the CEO of Everest Consortium immediately. Secure the best housing package he has and purchase it under Tatiana Lancaster’s name. Then, have the receipt sent to the ground floor,” Desmond instructed, his tone steady.
Tatiana’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Was that truly Nicholas Everstone?
And Desmond, this nobody, speaking to him as if they were equals?
“Alright, Young Successor. I will inform Arthur Harrison, the Vice President of Zenith Lux, to make the necessary arrangements and have the outcome sent to you,” Everstone replied, his voice sharp and firm.
He hung up, and Desmond waited calmly for the outcome.
Tatiana, on the other hand, burst into another round of laughter.
She didn’t even bother to look at Desmond for his reaction.
“Do you even know the process it takes for other wealthy people to acquire properties in that estate? And you, a poor brat, think you can get me the best house there?” She scoffed, shaking her head.
“I can’t even process who you think you are or who you think you’re fooling.”
She stepped closer, crossing her arms.
“So, in your mind, you just spoke with Nicholas Everstone, and within minutes, he’ll magically secure the best property just because you said so?” She let out another mocking laugh.
“Ki ki.”
“You clearly have no idea about the caliber of people Nicholas interacts with. Do you know how many millionaires have tried to meet him but failed?” She sneered.
“If you had pretended to call someone else, maybe a city official or a minor tycoon, I might have believed you. But Nicholas? Hell no! And that’s the person you expect me to believe answered your call… on that tattered phone of yours?” Her voice grew louder, dripping with disdain.
She laughed again, shaking her head.
“I’ll give you three minutes to show me the receipt. Let me at least entertain this little fantasy of yours so you can feel like a rich person for a brief moment.”
Two minutes passed—nothing.
One minute left—still no sign of the receipt.
And then,
BOOM!
Three minutes.
“It’s time. Where’s the miracle?” she asked impatiently, tapping her foot.
“Speak up now. What’s stopping you?” she snapped.
“So arrogant, yet nothing to show for it.” she spat the words at him.
Desmond looked at her with his expression unreadable.
Alexander who had been at one side, folding his arms and also waiting for the magic from Desmond to happen.
He quickly unclasped his arms and moved towards Tatiana.
“Dear, do not waste time on him. Don't you see the slight mark on the right side of his head? That's how people with that mark behave.” Alex said mockingly.
Tatiana laughed hard.
“It actually signifies poverty.”

Perhaps there was a mix-up,” she said, her voice trembling.“Oh? Can I have proof of that?” Arthur inquired.“Here it is, sir,” Camilla said, stretching forward the spiral-banded documents in her hand, which clearly stated where the Frederick Group had passed the stages. She had tried her best, there was nothing more she could do.As she reached the elevator, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She hesitated, pulling it out. An unknown number.“Hello?” she answered, her voice low.“Miss Camilla, please return to Mr. Harrison’s office immediately,” the voice instructed. Her breath caught. Was this another rejection? Another reason to humiliate her? But she had no choice. Turning around, she retraced her steps, her heart hammering with uncertainty.Back in the office, Desmond had already instructed Harrison to accept the Fredericks as new partners. As Camilla got back to the office, she hesitated.“Mr. Harrison?” she asked, her voice guarded.“Yes. Miss Camilla, I need to review your file once again.”For a second, she didn’t understand. Then realization dawned.

Moments later, Alex and Tatiana entered Zenith Lux, heading straight to Harrison’s office.Just then, they spotted Camilla in front of the elevator, waiting for it to arrive. She was on her way to finalizing Fredericks' documentation, securing the top spot on the ultra-exclusive list.Without hesitation, Alex moved toward her, his anger boiling. If looks could kill, Camilla wouldn’t be standing upright with the way Alexander looked at her while approaching. Alex was burning to the core. If water were poured on him, it would sizzle away instantly.“You… just tell me how.”Camilla stiffened. “Excuse me?”She knew what the Zacks were like, but she hadn’t expected an attack this early.Alex smirked, giving a slow, mocking clap. “Tell me, how does it feel to climb to the top overnight?”“What’s with all this embarrassment? What she saw was astonishing. She squinted her eyes, reading again to be sure she wasn’t imagining things.“How?” she whispered in surprise.“Just now, the Zack Group has been completely canceled from partnering with Zenith Lux.” Her voice trembled with disbelief.“Has the new president found them unworthy? Or did Mr. Harrison just decide this out of the blue?” she muttered to herself, trying to process the situation. She kept thinking about how everything had shifted so drastically—from Zack Group being at the top to getting demoted, and now vanishing completely. How was this even possible? She couldn’t fathom it.“See this,” Camilla turned her phone towards Desmond, urging him to take a look.Desmond already knew what she wanted to show him. He spotted Camilla from afar and walked over to check on her."Oh! Is this yours? Of course, I do. We both had it when we were kids," Camilla said.Instantly, Tatiana turned to Desmond, her eyes filled with disdain."What the hell are you doing here? It felt like sunlight cutting through a long, cloudy day—warm and familiar after the silence.“I'll be throwing a party at VibeSquare Suites Hotel tomorrow. Who are you to think you can meet with the CEO?” she scoffed.“Okay, no problem. Let's wait and see if I can see her or not,” Desmond said, bringing out his phone. He dialed Nicholas's number immediately.“Hello. I need the CEO of House of Luxoria to return to her boutique now.
