CHAPTER 6
“Now your wings have grown.
If you aren’t a liar from the pit of hell, then explain the letter! Where did you get the pendant?
“It’s truly a pity that I once married you. You were never my match, it was just an unworthy mistake.”
She scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.
“It only proves that you’re not just a penniless orphan but someone whose common sense is completely derailed.”
“Again, Desmond, I demand compensation. If not, you’ll regret this.”
Desmond, drained of his last bit of energy, barely reacted.
He had no interest in her theatrics anymore.
They were divorced now and that was all that mattered.
And to top it off, she wasn’t even the person he had believed her to be.
What else was left? He just needed to leave.
“What do you want?” he asked calmly.
If giving her what she wanted meant ending this drama once and for all, Desmond was ready.
He had more important things to focus on—like finding the right girl.
Tatiana’s eyes widened slightly at his response.
She hadn’t expected her destitute, trash ex-husband to fold so easily.
What could he even afford for him to ask what she wanted? What did he have?
She let out a mocking laugh, shaking her head.
“I want you to buy me a house at Everest Consortium.”
Her smirk deepened.
She was certain Desmond couldn’t afford even the smallest unit in the most expensive estate in Halcyon City.
How could he? Not even by a stroke of luck.
He was a loser through and through.
Tatiana kept her gaze fixed on him, eager to see his expression twist in humiliation.
She imagined him stammering, wishing the ground would open up and swallow him whole from the sheer embarrassment of not being able to provide what she asked for.
But to her utmost shock,
“Alright, consider it done. Give me a few minutes.”
Desmond agreed without hesitation, his tone indifferent, almost dismissive—like he didn’t want her to utter another word.
Tatiana blinked in disbelief.
“Are you sure you heard me? It’s a house. In an estate. Not just any estate, the best in the city and the highest package, worth two billion dollars plus.” she said, her tone mean.
“You don’t need to explain the entirety. You’ll get it,” Desmond replied coldly.
He knew exactly what she was doing.
She wanted to make a fool of him, to watch him squirm under the weight of an impossible demand.
But she had no idea, he wasn’t the same Desmond anymore.
“Okay then,” she sneered.
“Are you sending me the money to get it right now? Or are you buying it in my name and handing me the files and receipts—right here, on the spot?”
“Calm. You’ll get the files in a few minutes.”
Tatiana got angrier even more by the way he talked to her.
She couldn’t wait to see how this so-called miracle would unfold.
And if it didn’t?
She would make sure Desmond paid for wasting her time.
Every single moment of it.
Desmond fumbled for his phone in his pocket and pulled out a button phone with a cracked screen, its faded figures barely visible.
If not for the fact that he had already mastered the keypad through years of use, an average person wouldn’t even know how to operate it.
He scrolled through his contacts, found Nicholas Everstone’s number, and dialed.
“Hello, Nicholas Everstone. I need you to get in touch with the CEO of Everest Consortium immediately. Secure the best housing package he has and purchase it under Tatiana Lancaster’s name. Then, have the receipt sent to the ground floor,” Desmond instructed, his tone steady.
Tatiana’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Was that truly Nicholas Everstone?
And Desmond, this nobody, speaking to him as if they were equals?
“Alright, Young Successor. I will inform Arthur Harrison, the Vice President of Zenith Lux, to make the necessary arrangements and have the outcome sent to you,” Everstone replied, his voice sharp and firm.
He hung up, and Desmond waited calmly for the outcome.
Tatiana, on the other hand, burst into another round of laughter.
She didn’t even bother to look at Desmond for his reaction.
“Do you even know the process it takes for other wealthy people to acquire properties in that estate? And you, a poor brat, think you can get me the best house there?” She scoffed, shaking her head.
“I can’t even process who you think you are or who you think you’re fooling.”
She stepped closer, crossing her arms.
“So, in your mind, you just spoke with Nicholas Everstone, and within minutes, he’ll magically secure the best property just because you said so?” She let out another mocking laugh.
“Ki ki.”
“You clearly have no idea about the caliber of people Nicholas interacts with. Do you know how many millionaires have tried to meet him but failed?” She sneered.
“If you had pretended to call someone else, maybe a city official or a minor tycoon, I might have believed you. But Nicholas? Hell no! And that’s the person you expect me to believe answered your call… on that tattered phone of yours?” Her voice grew louder, dripping with disdain.
She laughed again, shaking her head.
“I’ll give you three minutes to show me the receipt. Let me at least entertain this little fantasy of yours so you can feel like a rich person for a brief moment.”
Two minutes passed—nothing.
One minute left—still no sign of the receipt.
And then,
BOOM!
Three minutes.
“It’s time. Where’s the miracle?” she asked impatiently, tapping her foot.
“Speak up now. What’s stopping you?” she snapped.
“So arrogant, yet nothing to show for it.” she spat the words at him.
Desmond looked at her with his expression unreadable.
Alexander who had been at one side, folding his arms and also waiting for the magic from Desmond to happen.
He quickly unclasped his arms and moved towards Tatiana.
“Dear, do not waste time on him. Don't you see the slight mark on the right side of his head? That's how people with that mark behave.” Alex said mockingly.
Tatiana laughed hard.
“It actually signifies poverty.”

Desmond initially didn’t want to respond, he had intended to ignore any sort of mess coming from the crowd. But the bully persisted.“Do you think those who invested in UBEX are trash like you? And you think it’s fifty dollars they invested? What am I even saying? Can you even afford ten dollars for investment, not to mention fifty?”Desmond halted and turned to see who the voice belonged to. It was Helena Lancaster—Tatiana’s mother. He wasn’t entirely surprised. Helena was like a hawk that would snatch any scent of money, no matter how foul. So it wasn’t shocking to find her buzzing around this kind of crowd.People who never care whether they tread the right or wrong path in pursuit of wealth always end up tangled in disgrace like this.Helena had sunk about a million dollars into the Ponzi scheme. Now, she was unable to retrieve both the money and the promised profit, and she still had the guts to puff up her chest and bark.“Oh, thank you,” Desmond said coolly. “I hope you're enjo

Immediately, the healthcare professionals began their work. The treatment was intense, it was an aggressive combination of immunotherapy, personalized medication adjustments, and rigorous physiotherapy sessions. But before they even began, the team had already accessed Delphine’s complete medical history, which Arthur had secured swiftly through official channels. Her previous hospital had shared everything digitally, ranging from test results to treatment logs and ensuring no detail was slipped through the cracks. They moved with such precision and urgency, it almost felt like Delphine could recover that very day.Indeed, these weren’t just any doctors, they were the best oncologists available.Camilla sorted through the gift items Desmond had bought for Delphine. She deeply cherished the thoughtful gesture, especially the products. They were from some of the finest, most luxurious brands money could buy.She found herself wondering how he managed to get such things. The last time he

This was just a whole lot for Camilla to figure out.Any medical care given under business owners registered with Zenith Lux Affairs was usually minimal. They are just basic health coverage that the company offers to regular clients. It helped with recovery, yes, but never for something as critical as this.Even those in the ultra-exclusive tier, with access to top-tier medical attention, hadn't received anything quite like this.Wow!Doctors were being flown in from abroad, and not just any doctors, but confirmed, elite specialists, all for Delphine's health? There had to be more to this.Who was the mysterious president of Zenith Lux?Could it be the same person who had plucked her from nowhere and promoted her to the top of the ultra-exclusive stage? It was something Camilla would definitely want to find out.Could it be Desmond? He was the only one who knew about most of the major things. But Desmond? No way.“But… Mr. Harrison, please, can I know who the president is?” Camilla as

Desmond squinted, leaning in to get a clearer view. The box in Sterling’s hand looked unmistakably familiar. It resembled the very one he had used to gift Felix Grayson a rare wristwatch during the party held in celebration of Felix’s promotion. As Desmond lifted his eyes, the person holding the box came into full view.It was Sterling Belmont.Felix’s friend. The same rude young man who had scoffed at Desmond at the party over that same wristwatch.Desmond’s chest tightened. That wasn’t what bothered him the most at that moment, but the thought lingered. What could he be doing with the box?Why bring it to a gallery store still wrapped? Was he trying to sell it? Or swap it?If it truly belonged to him, shouldn’t it be on his wrist? And if he intended to sell it, where was Felix? And did they seriously believe they could pawn such a rare item? A wristwatch crafted in a limited edition, reserved for only a few elites.Desmond thought bitterly. What claim could they even make about how

“First, I must commend your customer service in this store. Your staff have really done well,” Desmond said, pointing to the two staff standing nervously in front of him.Although they had acted weirdly a few minutes ago trying to snatch his items. But their initial approach had said it all, they were mannered. They say the first impression lasts longer. If it weren’t for the mannerless manager who instructed them to get the items from Desmond forcefully, things would have probably gone smoothly. He wouldn't blame the two staff. Mercer was their boss, and Desmond understood that they dared not disobey his command. If they did, they’d face consequences, might be queries, more difficult tasks, or even, the loss of their jobs. So, Desmond understood that they had no choice but to follow orders.Upon hearing Desmond’s statement, Rowan nodded with a smile. He was pleased to hear such comments from someone so powerful.Maybe, just maybe, if Desmond passed that same commendation to Arthur,

Mercer was growing irritated seeing Desmond pressing his phone and smiling, completely ignoring him as he yelled. He had expected Desmond to react, maybe storm out in shame. But to his surprise, Desmond neither spoke a word nor moved from where he stood. So, Mercer escalated his mockery.“You must be a master at pretending. Focusing on your phone like I’m not here yelling at you.”“Who the hell knows you, anyway? Why smiling at your phone”“Don't worry, you’ll find out in less than five minutes,” Desmond replied sharply. He dialed Rowan’s number, and it was picked up almost immediately like the man had been anticipating the call.“Hello, who am I speaking with, please?” A bold male voice came through the speaker.“I’m Desmond Ashford. If this is Rowan, I want you at the store immediately, in the personal care items section.” Desmond said firmly, his tone leaving no room for hesitation.“Oh, Sir! I’ll be there right away!”“Your time has started counting.”At that moment, the once-comp
