Chapter 6.

“Sir, I have words.” Darlene drawled, sitting cross legged on the chair, she was dressed in an all black outfit as usual.

I cleared my throat before speaking, “I’m all ears.”

“It’s Mason Greenwood and now, I hear Philip Black is also on the run.” Darlene said, drumming her fingers on her leg.

“Darlene, explain, I know Mason Greenwood but who’s Philip Black?”

“A top Attorney of the state and secretary in a league but if I am to guess, it would be the league of assassins.”

“A dirty lawyer. Hmm.”

“A dirty one sir. He’s let a few bad people of the hook because they paid him well and guaranteed him and his family protection but now, Mason Greenwood is after his life and no doubt he would go after his family too.”

“That aside, why is Mason hot on my heels?” Brooklyn questioned.

“It’s something about your twin brother, Blaze did two or three years ago and it’s obvious now that Mason hasn’t let it go. He orchestrated the whole thing at the hotel.” Darlene explained, twitching her nose.

“He broke his own rules by himself.”

“Does it matter? As long as the trigger wasn’t pulled by his own hands. He’s innocent. He turned the whole thing on Philip Black who has now reported to the league of Assassin to protect him.”

“Greenwood should let this slide.”

“You should ask me who they were after?” Darlene chuckled.

“Me?” Brooklyn asked, laughing.

“Well..” she tilted her head, “your brother but you both look alike so you’d be the one to take the blow for Blaze.”

Brooklyn looked away, this was one of the reasons why he didn’t want this life , why he kept on rejecting the responsibility to the point that his father froze his account and disown him, leaving him to suffer and deal with hardship.

He couldn’t work in a bigger company because his father was always there to tamper with his job applications and his father, William Ashland was one of those people that made his life a living hell.

Brooklyn remembered how his brother, Blaze had come through for him financially until he stopped because he didn’t take part with scamming Mason Greenwood and although their father knew about it and that was after Blaze had done it.

But then, William Ashland would not let his son tarnish his image, even as Blaze had lied that Brooklyn knew about it, their father knew it was a total lie and he did everything in his power to sweep the matter under the carpet while he erase every evidence and a paid off eye witnesses to protect Blaze from going to jail.

At that time, Brooklyn had gone home because his father sent for him, he could remember vividly their conversations and how it had turned out.

“Dad, you say I’m your son but because of your own selfish decision, you cut me off and froze my account and tampered with everything I was doing to make my life better.”

“Nonsense, I am doing all of these for you, you deserve this company and the family integrity is on you to uphold and not that your good for nothing brother.”  William Ashland said, scoffing.

Brooklyn shook his head and rub his forehead, now the story had changed, like a prodigal son, his father had welcomed him back home, and it didn’t take up to twenty four to become a billionaire.

His mind wandered to Stacy and how she would feel if she realized that her humiliation and disdain for him had made him return home to be what he is today.

“Boss you gotta be careful, you have to tread carefully, Mason Greenwood is like a Vïpēr with a horn.” Darlene said, breaking into his chains of thoughts.

Brooklyn stood up, pocketing his hand in his pants, his back turned against Darlene who stood up also, “Let them come, we will deal with it, power to power. I’m sure I’ll be the one to tame Mason Greenwood, I’ll be glad to be a torn in his flesh.”

“I’m sure you can beat him sir.” Darlene encouraged him.

“Let them come at me.. I’ll be ready. If it’s war they want, I’ll give it to them.” Brooklyn smiled sinisterly and when he turned to face Darlene, she had the same sinister smile on.

“I’m ready to serve you till I die.” Darlene swears.

“Did you run a background check on the two men?” Brooklyn questioned, a thought strike him.

“Yes, I did. You haven’t gotten the mail yet? I sent a file to your mail.” Darlene said, clasping her hands together.

“Don’t worry, I’d check it.” Brooklyn shook his head, he was thinking of what he had in mind would work out.

“Darlene?”

“Yes boss?”

“I was thinking, we would need some people on our side..” Brooklyn started, tapping his hand on the table, “shall we pay a visit to Philip Black.”

“We can. By finding his family before Mason does.” Darlene answered, she unlocked her phone and called a number.

“Anything yet, babe?” Darlene asked, twitching her nose again.

“Yes, they’re packing. Man of the house  isn’t home though.” Her girlfriend said, Darlene could hear shuffling around and asked her girlfriend if she was smoking on the job.

“Yes, just a lil bit, I’m bored babe.” She sniffled, “are you coming here?”

“Don’t worry about that, talk to you later.” Darlene hung up and faced Brooklyn, “we need to leave now, it will take us about thirty five to forty five minutes before we get to Philip Black house.”

“You should gather some men, and go over there, don’t rough handle them, take them to the penthouse and have them locked in a room, I’ll put a call through Philip and I’m sure by the time we finished conversing, all will be well and sorted.” Brooklyn smirked.

Brooklyn knew he had to be smart, and in this game, he wouldn’t be a laying dog all the time, there are times he would strikes his enemies where they least expected before they strike him and that would catch him unaware.

He knew that it would be a total waste if he called his father who barely had no chills even In his old age. Brooklyn canceled the thought of going to Father. He would handle his business and sooner than later he would become more tougher.
