The sun's beam came in through the open window, illuminating Josias's room. And when the light reached his eyes, Josias had to wake up, even against his will.
He stretches on the bed, under a thin sheet that was folded on the bed when he entered. The sweatpants were on the back of a wooden chair. Other than that and another dresser, there was nothing else in Josias's room.
Josias gets up, still wearing his briefs, goes to the open door to the balcony (he always had this habit of sleeping with the window open, even with mosquitoes coming in. That's why the window was providentially open when he needed to escape) and watches the activity of the shantytown. From the third floor, he had a good view of the area. As he looked down, he saw children and teenagers in school uniforms going to study, women socially dressed, probably going to work as attendants or secretaries, older women going to work as cleaners for some wealthy family, and men in industrial uniforms or plain clothes, going to do some informal work.
If Josias were on the main street, even though he was on the third floor, he would be woken up earlier by the noise of the neighborhood. A van that has already had better conditions passes by now. Josias can see it from afar, passing the corner. No, Happiness Slum does not have a bus; it is probably this van that transports residents.
Across Josias's view, in another four-story building, a girl on the third floor watches Josias from her window. She is smiling, approving Josias's good looks, especially his arms and chest, as he is shirtless.
Josias has Arab features, which makes him attractive to the opposite sex. His skin is brown as if it was tanned by the Middle Eastern sun, his eyes are brown and his face expresses authority like a sheik. Josias turns and accidentally finds her; the two of them exchange a smile. This girl can hardly imagine that Josias is only in his underwear!
Josias leaves the balcony, much to the sadness of the girl. He goes to the chair and puts on his sweatpants. It already has some dirt. Josias puts his hand on his chin, wondering what he is going to do when cleaning his clothes. Then, he starts to ask about his cleaning. The room had no bathroom. How do people take care of their hygiene?
Thinking about it, Josias puts on his slippers and leaves, not even bothering to lock the door because he had nothing to be stolen. When he goes down to the ground floor, he looks for Teodoro. The owner of the building is at the counter, looking intently at the radio, listening to the morning news. His frown tells Josias that it was bad news.
“Good morning, Seu Teodoro.” Josias risks saying, “How are you?”
The announcer reported on the radio. “... Investigations are continuing by the civil police. Unfortunately, neighbors refused to give any information. We will wait for more news of this crime in Rainbow Garden.”
Teodoro reduces the device volume and turns to Josias with a rueful look. “I'm sorry, young man. They just confirmed it in the morning news. Your father was murdered; they found his body still lying on the couch. Whoever executed it cleaned your house, stealing everything they could to make up for the debt. But the neighbors refused to help the police, for fear of reprisals.”
And then, for the first time, Josias starts to cry for his father's death. So much happened that he didn't even have time for that. Mr. Rocha was not an example of a father for Josias and died of yet another of his stupidity. But that was not why Josias was going to wish his father's death.
Teodoro comes out from behind the counter and hugs the youngest. “Calm, take it easy. Everything will be fine.”
Yes, Josias believed that strongly. It is only pain and grief that he needed to vent; put out, relieve his chest. If it weren't for that, Josias would now be at home having breakfast, showered, and brushed teeth. But now he is there, only in sweatpants (which is not being appropriate for today, which promises to be hot) and slippers and with less than five bucks in his pocket. Practically, nothing.

Chapter 3344 The Right Moment
The smell of chamomile filled the living room when Eugenio stepped into the Cogo apartment that morning. Suzy sat curled up on the couch, cradling what had to be her third cup of tea, her eyes glassy and her expression theatrically miserable.“I hope you’re not drowning yourself in calming tea,” Eugenio said, leaning against the doorway.Suzy shot him a look of exaggerated despair. “My nerves are on fire, Uncle!”He sighed. He had dealt with his niece’s dramatics before, but this time felt different. He could tell that whatever she was spiraling over was going to take real patience.“Listen, Suzy,” he began carefully. “Josias Rocha spoke to me.”“And what does that have to do with me?” she asked, too quickly.Eugenio took a breath. “He’s made it very clear he doesn’t want you returning to the Rocha Hotel.”Her jaw dropped. “Fine. I don’t need a steady job anyway.”“I wouldn’t be so sure,” he said, crossing his arms. “Josias thinks it’d be best for all of us to leave the city.”Suzy fr

Maggie’s office at Marçal Publishing was a storm of papers, coffee cups, and rumor. News, real or speculative, was erupting by the hour, and she wasn’t about to miss a single whisper. She shut the door behind her as if preparing to hear secrets from the CIA or the FBI themselves.“Alright, son,” she said, eyes gleaming with curiosity. “What did you find out?”Henrique leaned forward, lowering his voice. “Good thing we didn’t go too hard on Jake Cogo in those articles.”Maggie straightened abruptly. “You found something?”“I ran into Jason Meyer, Jake’s lawyer. He said Jake wasn’t the one driving.”“Did he say who was?” Maggie’s eyes sparkled.“No,” Henrique replied. “Said he’d reveal it at the right time.”Maggie pressed her fingers against her chin, her thoughts racing. “It must have been Suzy. That damn woman.”Henrique nodded grimly. “Let’s hope so. But we’d better stay alert.”“Thank you, son.”They embraced. Henrique smiled, feeling for once that he was truly helping.******Jaso
Chapter 3342 Don’t Let Him Rot in Jail
The morning rush at Café Montanha had just begun to taper off when Neilton burst in through the front door, breathless and disheveled.“Sorry I’m late, Rod,” he said, trying to catch his breath.Rodrigo waved it off. “No worries, Neil. Just take care of the guy at the counter,” he added, gesturing subtly toward Jason. As Neilton moved behind the counter, he caught sight of the imposing man waiting there. The aura around him was enough to make anyone tense.“I’m Attorney Meyer,” the man said, his voice calm, deliberate. “And no, I don’t belong to the famed Damascene law firm.”Henrique, seated nearby, raised an eyebrow. “Do you think you can save your client?”Jason didn’t flinch. “Of course. He told me who actually ran over Mr. Simeon Campos.”Neilton blinked, stunned. “But... you can’t say that, right?”Jason’s mouth curved into a half-smile. “I’m just waiting for the right time.”Rodrigo placed a cappuccino on the counter. Jason took a sip, nodded approvingly, and said nothing more.
Chapter 3341 Just a Suspect
At the General Hospital, Melissa and Dora stood outside the glass wall of Simeon’s room. Inside, the steady rhythm of the monitors filled the air as a nurse adjusted the machines. Simeon lay motionless, pale and peaceful, caught between life and death.“When will he wake up, my dear?” Dora’s voice trembled.“It’ll take time, Mom,” Melissa replied softly.“When will we be able to talk to him? They say people in comas can hear us.”Melissa slipped an arm around her shoulders. “Only when Dr. Hogan says it’s safe.”“I don’t know if I can wait that long,” Dora whispered.“You can,” Melissa said firmly. “You’ve survived everything life’s thrown at you. You’ll survive this too.”They clung to each other for a long moment, and when they parted, both women were wiping away tears.******Back at the Rocha Hotel, Josias leaned forward over the desk like a spider drawing closer to a trapped fly.Eugenio’s face went pale. “You... you want to fire me?”Josias’s smile was smooth, serpentine. “Not ex

At Ibrahim Square, Suzy sat alone on a bench, her expression clouded. She’d walked away from Luís, forgetting all about the errand that had brought her downtown in the first place. But Luís followed, his steps heavy and determined.“You really do take pleasure in the Rocha family’s misfortune, don’t you?” he said with bitterness.“I just think justice comes for everyone,” she answered coldly, “including the Rochas.”“Why did you become such a vile person, Suzy?”She turned toward him, smirking. “My boyfriend would disagree with you.”“Now that you’ve finally got one,” Luís shot back, “maybe you can stop blaming João Paulo for getting in the way of ME being your boyfriend. Why don’t you just let the past go?”Her eyes widened with rage. “You’re accusing me, aren’t you? Luís Vasquez, I curse the day I ever laid eyes on you!”He grabbed her arm, trying to reason with her, but she tore free, standing abruptly before storming away.Luís crossed his arms and watched her go, exasperated and
Chapter 3339 A Scoop Worth More Than Gold
Alan cradled Carla in his arms, gazing down at his newborn daughter with a tenderness that softened every line of his face. Sofia, now more composed after giving birth, lay back on the bed, her vitals quietly monitored by the steady beeping of machines.“Our daughter, darling...” Alan murmured with awe.“Now we have one of each,” Sofia said, smiling faintly.“A son to carry on the legacy,” Alan replied, brushing a fingertip over the baby’s cheek, “and a little princess to marry into a good family someday.”He kissed the baby’s soft, sleeping face.“So her future’s already written?” Sofia teased.“Maybe. It’s too soon to say.”“I’d love for her to have a childhood as peaceful as Mary’s,” Sofia said dreamily, “with a proper debutante ball and everything.”Alan chuckled quietly, pride warming his tone. “Oh, that she will, I promise.”He stifled his laughter, afraid to wake the baby, and Sofia sank back against her pillows, feeling a quiet sense of fulfillment wash over her.******Later
