"No way, you still haven't gotten over Amanda? Are you going to go in front of her and cry and beg for forgiveness?" Luther laughed and sized up Devin with a playful look in his eyes.
"Actually, it's not impossible for you to see her if you really insist." "Enough!" Devin interrupted him. "I'm not here for her. I'm going home!" Luther burst out laughing as if he had just heard the funniest joke in the world. "You're still being stubborn, aren't you?" "Since I'm in a good mood today, I'll let you meet Amanda." He ordered the bodyguards to take Devin inside. Devin sighed. "You know what? If I go in, your wedding is going to be ruined for sure." "Really? What, are you going to mooch off the food and starve everyone else to death?" "Take him in!" Luther lost all his patience and commanded the bodyguards viciously to drag Devin in. But when they were met with Devin's cold stare, they somehow didn't dare to lay a hand on him. "You asked for this," Devin sneered, and then strode in. "What's with all the posturing?" Luther scoffed. Then his eyes darkened. "Keep an eye on him. If he dares to cause trouble, make sure he pays dearly for it!" The auditorium was ablaze with light. Devin spotted from afar a crowd huddled around a massive crystal sculpture. Clearly, it was Luther and Amanda carved on it. "Goodness, this thing's gotta be worth a mint.” “Luther's really got connections. Even the big shot who owns the No.1 mansion sent a wedding gift." "Lucky Amanda, nabbing a guy like that." The guests whispered among themselves. Amanda tapped the wine glass, motioning for everyone to be quiet. "To the owner of the No.1 mansion!" Devin glared at Amanda with pity, for he knew he hadn't sent Luther any gifts. Luther lied to Amanda. He lied to everyone. “What a loser. Faking a gift just to gain prestige,” Devin scoffed. But then, people-sized Devin up and sneered at Devin as he walked past them. Some of them even covered their noses with their handkerchiefs. “Who invited this trash dump? Couldn't he dress up properly for a wedding?” He heard someone say from the crowd. “Perhaps he's a beggar. We get a lot of them in the party these days. Just give him some money and you'll be fine,” another person whispered. “But this is a top-class wedding. Vermin like him shouldn't be here!” The argument persisted as Devin sighed, looking for the most insignificant seat in the auditorium. He didn't want to be the center of attention, although it seemed like he couldn't help it. “Here. Sit with me,” a beautiful lady with dark hair and blue eyes said to Devin. And when she smiled at him, Devin's heart melted on the spot. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen! Even more beautiful than Amanda. “Thanks…” Devin replied and sat beside her. She gazed at him curiously. “My name is Kia. I heard them talking about your outfit. Don't listen to them. You look great,” she said with a smile. “I'm Devin. And you look even better. I love your eyes,” Devin replied to her, smiling as well. “Thanks…” Kia blushed at his comment, her face heated up with a blush. “It's a grand gift, isn't it? The wedding gift. The owner of the number 1 mansion must be a top shot, don't you think?” Kia asked him. Devin looked at the statue again, and then at Kia. “I doubt the owner of the number 1 mansion has got any time for such frivolous things. It's all a show. Trust me,” Devin responded. Kia found his certainly curious. “How do you know—” “Oh! For fucks sake! Who let this fucking lickspittle into this auditorium?” Jim, Amanda's brother growled as he approached Devin. Devin settled his darkened gaze on him, but Jim did not back down. “This is the height of indiscipline. You dare sneak your way into my sister's wedding? Did you think you wouldn't get caught?” “How stupid and shameless can you fucking be? Why is it so hard to deal with the fact that Amanda has dumped you already? Must you parade your pitiful existence all over the place?” Jim yelled at Devin. Some guests turned to observe the scene, and Kia flushed with embarrassment while people started looking. “Why don't you just leave? You're embarrassing this young man for nothing!” Kia shot back at Jim who scoffed while he gazed upon her. “Bitch! If I want a mouth to suck my dick, I'll call you. You better shut your cum dump or I'll shut it for you!” Jim snapped back at Kia. But then, Devin rose to his feet. “Apologize to the lady,” he demanded. Although Devin towered over Jim, the latter tried to hide his intimidation. But Jim took a step back in fear. “Playing the knight in shining armor now? You think she'll fuck you if you do this? Ha! Not even a pig would want a freaking degenerate like you!” And then, Devin slapped Jim immediately. The guests gasped as the slap resounded, and Jim himself could swear he couldn't hear a thing afterward! “Fuck you, motherfucker!” Jim cursed and threw a punch at Devin. But Devin grabbed his hand, kicked him in the belly, and threw him into a roll of seats. The guests gasped again in shock as Jim landed with a clatter, breaking many of the chairs. “Devin! What the fuck are you doing at my wedding!!” Amanda suddenly screamed as the commotion shook the auditorium to its core.

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED
Devin sat alone in the large living room, staring at the screen of his phone, scrolling through things, finding nothing interesting. He had barely touched his tea, and his thoughts were all over the place. He heard about the incident involving Henry’s secretary, but good thing he had handled that swiftly. She was alive and safe. But Viktor? The man hadn't shown his face all night, and he didn’t send for him either. As if he had been summoned, the main doors opened without warning, and the sounds of heavy boots came from down the house until they got to him. Devin didn't bother to look up. "Good morning, Devin." Viktor said with a nod. He was dressed in all black as usual. "You didn't call me last night." Devin sighed. “Since when did you need me to call you before you showed up? Besides, I didn’t feel like talking." Viktor frowned. “I was busy with some personal matters, and I was also hoping for an update about the situation with Viper and any others. Your men shou
CHAPTER NINETY NINE
Devin remained seated, staring at the fire that danced in the hearth. Its glow painted golden lines along the edges of his sharp jaw, but his face was tense. His thoughts were anything but calm. What to do, what to do? He hated being in situations like this. If he had known these things about Viktor before he grew a soft spot for him, then he wouldn’t have had to think it over. Henry stood near the desk, waiting. “So Henry, tell me.” Devin finally said, his voice low. “What do you think I should do about all of this?” Henry didn’t answer right away. He walked to the bar in the corner, poured himself a small glass of scotch, and took a sip before turning around. “Sir, I can’t tell you what to do, but my only advice for you is to not poke the bear.” He said. “Don’t poke the bear.” Devin muttered. Henry walked back toward him slowly, swirling the drink in his hand before sitting down. “Viktor is a man filled with loss, rage, regret, and immense power. That is a very dan
CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT
Henry Blake arrived just before midnight. His black car rolled to a slow stop at the mansion gates, and one of his men opened it without a word. Henry stepped out in his long, deep green coat, his face calm as always, and his silver watch catching the light from the front. He looked like a gorgeous man who knew too many secrets, and carried all of them alone. And both parts were true. Henry wondered what his boss wanted to see him for. He could only hope that there wasn’t trouble in paradise, but he had to check it out himself to know, right? Dreykov greeted him with a stiff nod at the door. “Mr Blake.” “Dreykov.” Henry replied, his tone light. “Still frowning at the world, I see.” Dreykov didn’t respond. He just led Henry in and down the quiet hallway. Devin was in his study, standing by the fireplace, his arms crossed as he stared into the flames, thinking of how beautiful light was, no matter the form it came in. He turned the moment the door opened. “Henry.”
CHAPTER NINETY SEVEN
Devin sat in his study, unable to keep his mind from going haywire as thoughts presented themselves one after the other. The mansion was still and quiet, like the calm after a storm, as it had almost been a week since the unfortunate incident with Viper, and everything had been restored to its original form. Thing was, with everything going on, he couldn’t find it in him to rest. Something much bigger was at play here, he knew it. His phone started to ring on the table, and he peeked at the caller ID. Petra Knight. Sighing, he picked the call. "Petra.” He said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Please tell me you have something, anything.” “Oh, darling.” Her sultry voice flowed through the phone like honey. “You missed me, didn't you?" Devin wasn’t moved. "I asked for answers, not attitude." "Well, it’s a combination you get to enjoy." He could hear her sipping something on the other end. "But I'll give you what you want first. Then we can talk about your undying lov
CHAPTER NINETY SIX
Viper's body was still on the floor, blood smeared across his mouth and jaw with cuts all over him. His face was battered, barely recognizable, and his clothes had basically been shredded… to say in the least. His chest rose and fell in a manner that showed that even breathing was painful for him. Devin stood a few feet away, fists clenched at his sides, trying to calm the fire still burning inside him. His breathing was loud in the silence, but his eyes never left the man he’d just crushed. “Tie him up. I want him breathing to question him.” “Yes sir.” Dreykov nodded and motioned to two guards who had made it through the whole chaotic event. One was limping slightly, and the other had a bruised arm, but they obeyed without hesitation. As the men approached with thick ropes and bindings, Viper’s eyes suddenly snapped open. Dreykov noticed it first. “Shit! He’s awake!” He hissed, jumping back. Viper’s head whipped up, blood dripping from his lip, and with one wild, anima
CHAPTER NINETY FIVE
The night was cold as a strong wind moved through the trees that lined the long driveway leading up to Devin’s mansion. But it wasn’t just the weather that carried the chill, no, it was the arrival of something far worse. Something dangerous. Viper stood just beyond the front gates with a wicked grin on his face and madness glowing in his eyes. His veins pulsed with so much power, and his fingers twitched with raw, unstable energy. He opened his palm, staring at the burnt fragment of the scroll he had absorbed hours ago. The power inside him was bubbling, and he felt like a god. His blood was hot and greedy, like it wanted out of system. Like it wanted more blood. "Time to kill a rich boy.” He muttered with a sneer. Viper kicked the gates open. They flew off their hinges like they were made of paper, crashing into the hedges on either side. Inside the mansion, Viktor and Dreykov were already on high alert. “Sir.” Dreykov said, peering out the front window, “we have a p
