CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN
The boardroom on the top floor of the Stonehenge Conglomerate headquarters was made of pure hard glass and steel, and it had this cold yet elegant vibe, as it was designed to intimidate. Devin sat at the head of the table, looking like a man born to sit on thrones others only dreamed of. And he was in fact, doing that. His grey suit was tailored to perfection, and he wore a satisfied smirk as he flipped through the final page of the contract. Opposite him sat five of the most powerful stakeholders in the international fintech space. Men in their late fifties, who were sharp, greying at the edges, and wearing shoes more expensive than most people’s apartments. Amanda didn’t know how long she had been walking. Her feet were burning in her heels, and her thighs were very sore from Luther’s roughness, and her pride? Oh that had left her hours ago. Amanda sighed, looking around to see that she was still getting scornful glances. Everyone has rejected her. Society, Luther, and even her own mother. Had she been wrong to kill Steve? She bent down to pick up her phone and it started to ring immediately. Luther! Amanda tugged her coat tighter around her body as she walked out from there, barely holding on. She couldn’t believe how he had embarrassed her, and had the audacity to throw her out again. She held back her tears and looked back at the hotel one last time before walking away. There was a time when people would clamour for her presence, but now… she was old news. She threw her scarf on the ground in annoyance and stepped on it, and a few people stopped to look and even made videos of her. A uniformed man walked up to her. “You can’t be doing that on here, ma’am. I’d advice that you go somewhere else.” She yanked her arm from his hold. “I can have you sued for harassment! Amanda stumbled as Dreykov shoved her through the meeting room doors, her hair slightly out of place, and her heels clicking aggressively on the floor as she tried to find her balance. But even with security waiting at the end of the hall, she didn’t shut up. Instead, she whipped around, her eyes burning with rage, and then she looked directly at Kia. "You think you're so tough, huh?" Amanda spat, voice sharp enough to cut glass. "Walking around like you’re royalty just because Devin’s got his arm around your fake ass.” Kia didn't even react. She wore her pretty high heels and walked on the marble floor with the confidence of a queen, but inside, her heart was pounding. This had to work. She had done her homework. She knew that Devin was holding a high profile meeting today, and she had even memorized the names of the executives he was supposed to meet. In addition, she had managed to spot them as they arrived, and they looked clean, old money types, with expensive suits and colognes that lingered in the air. These were exactly the kind of people she once dreamed of surrounding herself with, and so she timed her entrance just perfectly.
