“He shouldn't have taken the deal. Now he's going to be humiliated,”

“Yes! He should have gone to prison with what's left of his integrity,”

“What if he has no integrity. He's a shameless thief without abilities, remember? What can he do?”

Devin heard the whispers as he approached the convulsing man. He knelt beside him and stretched forth his hand.

He could see the red weaves surrounding the man, the way they shone and fluttered.

The man was losing the fight.

“Devin, you don't have to do this. Just wait for the ambulance to get here,” Lizzy said to him.

“He'll be dead by the time they get here. I have to act now,” Devin replied to her. He placed both hands on Simon's body and closed his eyes, allowing his energy to siphon into Simon.

At first, nothing happened. Simon kept convulsing. And then, all of a sudden, he let out a cry like a roar and fainted.

“D-did you just fucking kill him? Oh my God! What the fuck did you do?” Mr Taylor yelled at Devin as people murmured nervously.

  • CHAPTER 196

Petra’s boots hit against the gravel drive as the mansion came into view, her chest burning, lungs screaming for air. The car had stopped just about a mile away, and she was running as fast as she could. She had the map clutched so tightly inside her jacket that her knuckles hurt. Her clothes and skin were torn and bloodied. She didn’t care about any of that, though. All she knew was that she just had to get to Devin before anyone else did. If something like this could cause Amanda to die… fuck, she didn’t want to think about that. When she got to the gate, the guards bowed to greet her, and the gates were already opening. “Devin! Devin!” She yelled as she ran in. Devin got out of the car that was coming out with his coat still on, looking panicked and on edge as he’d been ready to leave. Dreykov and two other guards were behind him. “Petra?” Devin sounded annoyed. “Where the hell have you been?” She shook her head. “I—” “I wasn’t expecting you to leave with Amanda

  • CHAPTER 195

The darkness inside the room felt alive. Amanda could have sworn that it was breathing. The wind had stopped spinning and flinging papers and books around and they stood there, shaking. Petra’s knife was already out, her blade catching what little moonlight was squeezing through the cracked window. “Amanda…” “He’s supposed to be out by this time, he’s never usually in this late…” Amanda whispered. That was when they heard someone laughing evilly. Petra went forward, raising her knife. “Show yourself, you coward. I dare you.” Amanda nearly facepalmed herself. Who says something like that to someone capable of causing a natural disaster? From the darkness, a figure got out of it like it had been part of the wall all along, emanating a dull light. He snapped his fingers and the darkness started to dissolve before it became one huge creature in front of them, standing next to him. “Viktor…” His smile widened. “Ah… my sweet little traitor. You brought a friend too.

  • CHAPTER 194

Amanda’s was crouched low behind a stone wall with Petra. This was her one chance to prove herself to Devin, to prove that she was a changed woman. She had promised to get the missing half, and she would get it. Viktor’s hideout loomed ahead. It was an old, rotting estate hidden in the woods, and its roof was caved in on one side, and it looked like it was somehow… breathing. “This is it?” Petra asked. “Devin told me—” “He has multiple hideouts.” Amanda said. “This is one of his oldest, and he makes it look terrible to not draw suspicion, just in case.” “Is that so? I just thought it represented who he actually is on the inside.” Petra said, unimpressed. “Well, yeah. This is where he hides the stuff he doesn’t want anyone finding.” Amanda sighed. Petra tilted her head and gave her a side glance. “I heard you the first time. And do you mean where he hides your stuff too? Or was that your bedroom in there at some point?” Amanda didn’t look at her. “Funny.” “I

  • CHAPTER 194

The sky above the mansion was starting to get much darker, and the cloud-like whirlpool in the sky seemed to just keep folding in on itself until the shadows came down into the yard looking like a part of the place was just night. The dogs were still barking like mad, and Amanda felt goosebumps right above her skin. She felt like she could die. All of a sudden, out of that darkness that came to the floor, a figure came forward. It was Viktor. His boots hit the ground and the force of him destroyed the large gates, throwing it backwards. He walked in like he owned the place, his coat was ripped in a lot of places, and he still had the blood stains from the fight in the woods, but his face carried that same smirk that he always had. “Devin.” He drawled. “Long time since our last fight.” Devin didn’t move. “You’re on my property, Viktor. That’s a bad move, you of all people should know better.” Viktor’s eyes slid past him, and that was when he and Amanda locked eyes instan

  • CHAPTER 192

    192. The sun was beginning to go down when Devin finally got in as Dreykov drove through the iron gates of his mansion. The sky was painted with beautiful reds and oranges, and everything looked so beautiful and at peace. His jacket was half-unzipped, and his boots stomped heavily on the polished tiles as he walked inside. Petra stood at the edge of the hallway, her arms folded, keeping her face tight. "You're late." She said immediately. "I was handling stuff, I'm sorry." Devin replied flatly. "What happened? Why are you outside?" Petra sighed, moving closer to him. "A woman came here. She was crying, and she seemed scared out of her fucking mind." "Okay, who was it?" Devin asked. Petra took in a deep breath. "Your ex, Amanda." Devin's brow furrowed. "Amanda?" "She mentioned a name. Viktor." The moment she said it, Devin froze. The air around him turned cold. "She said that Viktor killed someone. A man called Luke, I think." Devin's eyes narrowed.

  • Chapter 191

    191. Amanda ran as quickly as her legs could carry her through the woods, with all the forest branches scratching her skin and thorns that seemed to pop out of nowhere tearing through her jeans. Her heart wouldn't stop pounding. Her body ached, and her knees were bleeding. It felt like at any moment she was just going to drop dead. But she couldn't stop, because that was true. If Viktor just caught sight of her, she could drop dead at any moment, and that was one thing she couldn't let happen. She had just watched Luther die right in front of her. Viktor stabbed him, laughed about it, and for all she knew he probably even drank his blood. The image of Luther being murdered had been burned deep into her mind, and it played again and again like a CD stuck on repeat. She reached the edge of the trees and that was when she realised that she had seen this path before! She continued to run with all her might. If she was right she would get to Devin's abode! As she ran, she saw the ga
