Eric Chester's face stiffened in rage as he barked at Damien: “Get your headless face out of my sight, this minute!”

James’ grin turned into a scornful frown: “Loser! What the hell are you doing? Do you want to be shredded into pieces?”

Laura's voice reeked of disdain: “You definitely don't value your life. Do you know the man you just interrupted? Huh?”

Damien scoffed with a blank stare: “Was I supposed to care? Is he the president of Oakland or the Almighty savior of the seven cities?”

Damien's sarcasm had their chests swelling with fury. Laura charged on: “You fool, Eric Chester is the son of Oakland's Mayor! Haven't you heard of George Chester? That's his father, you dumbass!”

Damien yawned while she was speaking. He calmly went to the assaulted lady and helped her to her feet.

Laura rolled her eyes and sighed at his unbothered attitude: “You're asking for a dead wish. Eric Chester is one of Oakland's vehement martial lords. He's a black belt holder and absolutely merciless!”

Damien puffed at Laura's belittling words, wondering how she quickly developed dementia and couldn't recall that he was exiled from the ‘armed forces.’

“Wow, really? Was that boring eulogy about him meant to make me startle? Am I supposed to scream in horror because he’s the Mayor's son who managed to learn a few martial arts elementary steps?”

Laura's mouth hung agape in anger at Damien's unfazed expression in downplaying her warnings about Eric Chester.

The socialites who had been watching all along became more interested in seeing how the drama would unfold as they found Damien's personality quite intriguing.

The hall rippled with shocked, indistinct chatterings as the elites were wondering who the unassuming, courageous man was who didn't tremble in the sight of the Martial vehement combatant, Eric Chester.

Eric smacked his tongue and glared at Damien with murderous intent while being enabled by James:

“Not knowing who I am or what my family is capable of shows one thing: You certainly have been long gone from Oakland's real world.”

“If you fall to your knees and apologize for being annoyingly stupid. I might turn a blind eye to your insolence tonight. You have just twenty seconds!”

Damien scoffed with one of his fingers tucked in his pocket: “I'm Damien Ross, and I don't kneel to anyone, not even to your father, the Mayor.”

Laura sucked her teeth with mixed emotions. She didn't know what gave Damien such a level of confidence, given the fact that he had been locked behind bars for seven years. At the same time, she was elated to see how he'd be humiliated by Eric.

James and Chloe grinned in growing satisfaction to finally witness someone who would put Damien in his place. His annoying boldness had been getting on their nerves.

Eric's expression turned colder, and he yelled at Damien with screams of combat, eager to slam his face.

He charged like a tiger while everyone watched with suspense: within seconds, he was raging at Damien's face with tightened muscles, targeting his eye.

Damien smiled with ease and dodged his feisty smack with a coordinated reflex.

Eric snorted and marched onto Damien once more, but this time, he allowed him to move closer and denied Eric's blow with an easy front block.

Damien threw him a blank, pitiful stare: “Is that all you've got? I expected a whole lot from the so-called Martial arts black belt holder.”

Before Eric could blink, Damien charged with precision and smashed his mouth with a brutal uppercut that had him crashing against one of the tables.

“What a fucking hit! My God!” The socialites screamed with adrenaline pumping through their veins.

James let out a sickening scream: “Urghhh! Who are you?!”

Laura and Chloe snaked their hands around her neck in shocked silence. James' eyes bulged in disbelief.

Blood sprayed from Eric's mouth, and three broken teeth hit the floor. Damien calmly dressed his hair with his fingers, with a dangerous smirk on his face:

“Not done yet.”

Damien marched before Eric and slammed his bleeding mouth with a precise jaw kick.

The echo coming from Eric's cracking teeth had everyone stunned in fear.

“Goodness, heaven!” Most of the elites popped their eyes with trembling emotions.

“Medic! We need a medic!”

Laura and Chloe screamed their lungs out while drawing backwards to avoid the blood splattering on them.

‘Impossible!’ James mused in his heart as he couldn't recognize Eric's bloody, broken mouth.

With Damien's second leg kick, Eric lost an extra five premolars. The medical personnel opposite the event venue managed to wheel him off as he winced in pain.

Everyone fixated their attention on Damien’s calm aura. The cleaning technician quickly moved in and mopped the blood-stained floor.

Laura swallowed, trying to shake off the shock, her eyes flickering: “Damien, what's the meaning of that? Do you have any idea what you just signed up for? Rest assured, the Mayor will surely have your head on a platter!”

Then Chloe's voice broke out, reeking of worry: “Oh my God, this doesn't look good.”

Laura and James narrowed their eyes in confusion: “What’s going on, Chloe?”

She showed them the tablet screen showing the NewYork Oil Gold Conglomerate partnership contract application portal.

“Ma’am, the lady that Eric Chester harassed is NewYork Oil Gold’s staff, and she's filed a complaint for assault. Our companies, alongside the Mayor's company, are about to be blacklisted from the partnership selection.”

Laura's spine buckled in dismay:

“Goddammit!”

Oceans' Jewelry really needed the contract to be ranked in the first five most prominent companies by Forbes Oakland.

Damien watched keenly, stroking his beard at the ongoing development. He didn't know the lady he defended was one of his staff.

Laura turned to her boyfriend with growing emotions: “James, I need your aid dearly. Can you please talk to your father to put in a good word? We all know how connected Mr. Smith is and the power he wields. The Oceans can't afford to be blacklisted.”

James's shoulder raised as he savored the pride of Laura seeking his help. He winked at Damien with a gloat:

“Of course, my darling, I'll speak with my father right away. I don't mind the Smiths losing out as long as the Oceans don't get blacklisted. Don't worry your pretty head about it; it's not a big issue.”

James pecked her cheeks and stepped aside to do the needful. Simultaneously, Damien's phone buzzed, and it was from The Goddess. He skillfully excused himself for a moment:

“Son, I was informed of the stunt you pulled off at the venue by putting that nitwit called Eric Chester in his silly place. I'm so proud of you. Due to the assault complaints from one of our staff, I intend to blacklist the companies of the three parties involved, but I can't decide without your approval.”

“What do you think, son? Should I go ahead and press the red button?”

While Damien was engaged in a conversation with The Goddess, James had dialed his father's line twice, hoping he'd pick up on the third try.

Finally, a rough voice cut through the other end of the call: “Why drain my battery with your incessant calls? Have you gotten yourself into another trouble as always?”

James awkwardly cleared his throat, feigned a smile, and responded:

“Come on, Dad, I promised to be better. I'm calling to ask for a favor.”

Mr. Smith sucked his teeth: “My trust fund son is at it again. How much do you need this time?”

“Daddy. I still got some cash. It's about Laura. Please, our companies are about to be blacklisted from the partnership contract. Can you put in some good words, especially for Oceans?”

Mr. Smith's brow furrowed in disappointment: “This was why you kept draining my battery? Do you have the slightest idea who the founder of NewYork Oil Gold Conglomerate is? Well, not like I expected someone like you to know.”

“It's being run by the wealthiest person alive in Oakland. Till my death, I could never dream of being in the same space with The Goddess nor lend my voice. I have no such high-ranking connection, and we must accept the blacklist without protest. Don't call my line for such impossible demands ever again!”

The call abruptly disconnected, leaving James' face soured with shame at his father's cold, defeated words.

While swallowing the disappointing call, thinking of how to face Laura after boasting to take care of the situation. An excited voice screamed out:

“My Goodness! Great news, James! You did it!”

James' eyes lit up as he walked towards Laura and Chloe, wondering what the joyful shout was all about.

Laura blessed him with a heartwarming hug while grinning at Damien, who folded his arms.

“Just like you promised: with your father's connection. The Oceans escaped being blacklisted just barely a minute after you put forth the call. Wow, James, you're really the real deal.”

James' breath hitched for a moment, but he managed to hide the shock and feigned a boastful countenance:

“It's nothing, baby. A mere snap of my father's fingers triggered the magic, and they had no choice but to keep the Oceans’ contract proposal afloat.”

Damien's forehead knitted in irritation at how James could proudly spew such a lie and keep a serious face.

Laura let out a loud giggle, throwing Damien a condescending glare:

“This is what a real man should be and not you, Damien. Within minutes, he cleaned up Oceans’ blacklist threat. Can you ever in a lifetime pull that off?”

Damien shook his head with a pitiful glance at how perfectly she played the role of a foolish, naive girlfriend.

Damien almost walked off, but on second thought, turned facing them once again with a smirk curled on his lips:

“James, are you really certain it was your call that did the magic?”
