Olivia began explaining how the business world in Riverton actually operated, and what she said immediately shocked Gavin.

According to her, nearly every medium-to-large business in the city was controlled by mafia networks.

But these mafias weren’t like the ones in movies.

They were corporations. Organizations structured and managed by powerful families.

Jared Trenton himself was merely a small example within that world. The higher you climbed, the stronger and more influential those families became.

Olivia went on to explain the different forms of mafia-controlled businesses throughout Riverton and how deeply they monopolized entire industries.

The more Gavin listened, the clearer it became—In many ways, Riverton itself operated under a legal system unofficially controlled by a handful of powerful family networks.

Even more surprisingly, Olivia explained that the police and legal authorities themselves were also part of that chain. Another gear inside the same machine.

Then, after a brief silence, Olivia revealed something unexpected.

“Back then, my family used to control a small network too.”

Gavin looked at her quietly.

“But then a certain family came to Riverton.” Olivia smiled bitterly. “They became our competitors... and eventually crushed not only my family’s business, but several others as well.”

“Now, this club is the only thing left.” Her gaze drifted slightly. “And technically... it doesn’t even belong to me anymore.”

Because Gavin had just redeemed it.

“So?” Olivia leaned back slightly while looking at him. “You don’t seem very shocked.”

“Maybe that’s because you’re still young.” She smiled faintly. “But honestly, I think one day you’ll become a major figure in the business world.”

Although Gavin appeared calm on the surface, he finally understood what the old man had meant that night.

“If you don’t want people stepping on your head... then stand above everyone else instead.”

Now Gavin was completely certain. The old man who gave him that beer... Was the same person who gave him this System.

And the mission of that System was leading him toward the exact same conclusion.

“I bet Brandon’s family is part of this network too,” Gavin thought coldly.

Because in Gavin’s eyes, Brandon dared to humiliate him like that because he knew Gavin had absolutely no power to retaliate.

“Just wait, you bastard.”

Now that Gavin understood his destination, the only thing left to think about was—Where should he begin?

And somehow... The answer already seemed to be standing right in front of him.

“Miss Clark,” Gavin suddenly spoke, “I understand now.”

“And I’m thinking of starting my own business.”

“Huh?” Olivia blinked. “What do you mean?”

Gavin nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“I’m going to build everything from the ground up.”

“Ehm... Gavin, building a business network requires an enormous amount of capital.”

Olivia crossed her arms slowly. “And besides money, you’ll need many other things to compete. Otherwise, you’ll be destroyed before you even take your first step.”

Olivia genuinely didn’t expect Gavin to say he wanted to build his own power network. Because until a few moments ago, she assumed Gavin’s family was already connected to one of the major networks—perhaps even one of the ruling families themselves.

“Miss Clark,” Gavin looked at her calmly, “didn’t your family once have influence?”

“Yes.” Olivia nodded slowly. “But it’s gone now. Everything collapsed, and the people who used to work within that network scattered long ago.”

“Then what if we gather them again and rebuild it?”

Olivia’s eyes widened slightly before narrowing as she stared sharply at Gavin.

“Gavin... are you saying you want to build your own business network by gathering the remnants of my family’s former organization?”

“Yes.” Gavin nodded without hesitation. “Is that possible?”

“Hahahahaha!”

Olivia suddenly laughed as if the idea sounded absurd.

“Young man, of course it’s possible.” She shook her head lightly. “But—”

Gavin frowned slightly after hearing her tone. “But what?”

“Gavin, you’d need at least a hundred million dollars just to begin.” Olivia looked directly at him. “And far more than that if you actually want it to grow.”

This wasn’t something Gavin was used to. But for some reason, hearing Olivia underestimate him again triggered something inside him.

“Miss Clark,” Gavin said slowly, “there’s something important you should remember from now on.”

“Never underestimate the source of my money.”

Olivia immediately fell silent.

The young man she always considered harmless and naïve was now staring directly at her with sharp eyes. As if silently telling her that his wealth had no limits.

“S-Sorry...” Olivia replied more nervously this time. “Gavin, this isn’t a game.”

“If you start this, you won’t be able to stop anymore.”

“Enemies will appear.”

“Rivals will emerge.”

“And if you fail to destroy them first... they’ll destroy you.”

“Yes.” Gavin nodded calmly. “I already understand that.”

Then he looked directly into her eyes.“So? Are you joining me? Or should I find someone else to start with?”

Olivia froze. If Gavin was truly serious... Then this could become an enormous opportunity.

But at the same time, if the young man standing before her wasn’t strong enough—

Then she would be dragged into ruin alongside him.

Earlier, Olivia had only planned to live peacefully after escaping her debt and keeping Noctis alive.

But now...For some reason—She felt challenged.

“Gavin...” Olivia narrowed her eyes slightly. “Are you planning to conquer Riverton?”

“Maybe.”

Olivia stared at him for several seconds before finally asking the most important question.

“How much money do you actually have?”

Gavin answered calmly.

“As much as necessary.”

“Profit?” Gavin asked, half under his breath. “Yeah.” Caleb immediately leaned forward. “How much?” Honestly, Gavin himself didn’t really understand crypto that well. The basics weren’t hard to grasp, but he had never actually bought a single token before. He didn’t even have an exchange app. He had only heard other people talk about it. “You guys are still here?” Gavin asked when he realized Nina and the others were still standing behind him. “W-We...” Nina stammered slightly. “Just tell us already!” one of the girls behind Nina shouted. “Yeah, we wanna know too!” another added shamelessly. There was no way Gavin could escape now after starting all this. He glanced left and right. Every eye was still locked onto him. So after thinking for a few seconds, he finally answered casually. “One hundred.” Adam frowned. Dylan tilted his head slightly. Nina and almost everyone else in The Yard also seemed confused because the number was way too short. “One hundred what?” “One hu

Gavin blinked several times. “Rumors?” he muttered before looking at his three friends. “Robbery?”The three of them stayed silent, making Gavin slowly furrow his brows.“Oh, shit...” he cursed. “What the hell is wrong with you guys?”“No need to pretend you don’t understand.” Nina snorted softly before pointing at the items on the table.“Because even an idiot can tell none of that stuff is cheap.”Adam, Caleb, and Dylan immediately nodded in unison.“True.”“Yeah.”“Exactly.”Gavin stared at them in disbelief. “Shit... whose side are you guys on?”But he ignored the three of them and turned back toward Nina.“Fine. You can think whatever you want,” he said. “But who exactly are you?”Nina slightly pulled her head back, but Gavin still wasn’t done.“And why is whatever I do any of your busine—”His words suddenly stopped when his eyes landed on one of the girls standing beside Nina.“Oh...” Gavin slowly nodded. “Alright. Now I get it.”At that moment, he finally realized where the ri

CHAPTER 18 — Power RangersThe Yard was still fairly crowded that night. The sounds of student conversations, clinking utensils, soft music, and occasional bursts of laughter blended together in the air.Although students from South Block and North Tower occasionally showed up there, nothing particularly interesting had happened today, leaving most of the seats occupied by Commons residents who treated the place like their shared living room.At one of the tables in the middle of the food court, Adam leaned back in his chair while staring at Caleb and Dylan sitting across from him.“No matter what happens, we can’t just delete it.”Caleb immediately frowned.“Why not?”Adam let out a slow sigh and rubbed his face.“Because it’s not our responsibility. We only built the place. We’re not the ones who uploaded it, and we’re not the ones creating all that bullshit on there.”Dylan, who had been busy stabbing fries with his fork the whole time, finally looked up. But before he could say anyt

Gavin walked slowly along the campus pathway with his phone pressed against his ear. Several shopping bags were still hanging from his hands, swaying lightly with each step. The night air felt colder now.“Olivia...” Gavin frowned slightly. “What exactly did you mean earlier?”Several seconds of silence passed before Olivia’s voice finally came from the other side of the call.“Gavin, if your goal is simply to start a business, then everything is fairly straightforward. We choose an industry, find a good location, and start investing.” Her voice remained calm as usual. “But if what you want to build is your own network, then that becomes a different problem.”Gavin stayed silent as he continued walking, waiting for Olivia to continue.“We need information,” Olivia finally said. “We need to know which networks are beginning to weaken, who’s fighting who, who’s losing money, and who’s becoming desperate. In Northgate, some of the people I’ve already met are willing to dig into things l
