Vanessa suddenly stood up, frozen to death. Her glass trembled in her hand.

The manager’s words, “The Cooperation with your company is canceled,” sounded like a joke in her ears. The crowd stared, and they began to whisper things that the cameras couldn’t record.

She forced a smile, her voice shaky. “Mr. Carter, come on, I know this is pun intended, and I appreciate your sense of humor!,” she said, loud enough for the reporters to hear. “But come on, we’ve got press here. This is a big deal. You might want to stop joking!”

But Mr. Carter was in fact not joking. His face was stone, no trace of the flattery and respect he’d shown earlier. He crossed his arms, his gray suit creased from his rushed exit. “This is no joke, Miss Lang,” he said, his voice cold as the marble floor. “The Cross family’s done with you. The Cooperation is off.”

Vanessa’s knees wobbled, her black dress clinging to her sweaty skin. She nearly collapsed, her glass slipping, but Bobby quickly caught her arm, his c

The courtroom was packed. Every bench in the gallery was filled with reporters, bloggers, and members of the New York elite who treated custody battles like spectator sports. The air was thick with the scent of old mahogany, floor wax, and expensive cologne.Ethan led Vanessa to the plaintiff's table. They sat down, flanking Clara.Spread out before them was the "Firing Squad." Five lawyers in matching grey suits, sorting through mountains of paperwork, tapping on tablets, looking bored and lethal. They whispered to each other in legal jargon that sounded like spells.“Impressive,” Clara murmured, eyeing the team. “This looks like a coronation.”Vanessa looked across the aisle looking pale but composed in a modest navy dress chosen specifically to make her look like a grieving, concerned mother. Next to her was Clara, nursing her bruised cheek, her eyes darting around like a cornered rat.On the right side —the defense table— it was empty.Completely, utterly empty. The gallery was pa

“...and if you are just joining us, the atmosphere here at the New York Supreme Court is nothing short of electric. It is a circus, a gladiator arena, and a corporate merger all rolled into one.”The news reporter, a blonde woman in a trench coat fighting against the wind, pressed her earpiece as she spoke into the camera. Behind her, the marble steps of the courthouse were swarming with paparazzi, protestors, and curious onlookers.“We are moments away from the most high-profile custody hearing of the decade. On one side, we have Vanessa Lang, CEO of Lang Enterprises, who has had a tumultuous forty-eight hours. Sources confirm that just last night, Ms. Lang was involved in a high-stakes police operation to rescue her brother, Lucas Lang, from a kidnapping attempt that allegedly drained her company’s liquid assets.”The cameraman panned to the sleek black SUVs lined up at the curb.“And on the other side... the enigma. Adrian West. The man the internet is calling the ‘God of Chef.’ Th

"Here," Adrian said coldly.Dr. Aris looked at the check. He blinked. He adjusted his glasses. He blinked again.Pay to the Order of: Saint Jude’s Hospital Amount: $120,000,000.00"One hundred and... twenty million?" Dr. Aris stammered, his arrogance evaporating instantly. "Sir, the bill is only sixteen thousand. This is... is this a joke?""I'm not paying the bill," Adrian said, capping the pen. "I'm buying the goddamn hospital."The lobby went dead silent."Excuse me?" Dr. Aris squeaked."I don't like your policy," Adrian said, stepping around him. "So I'm changing management. Consider the hospital acquired. Have all deeds, transfer papers, and staff audits forwarded to the West Syndicate legal department by morning."He signaled Magnus. "Let's go."Helen stood rooted to the spot. Her mouth fell open. She looked from the check in the doctor's hand to Adrian’s retreating back. The West Syndicate? The name echoed in her mind. Everyone knew the name. It was a myth. A ghost story of the

The elevator doors opened into the lobby, but Vanessa couldn't move. She stood paralyzed, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.“He… he…” Vanessa stammered.“He robbed you,” Ethan said coldly, handing the phone back. “Your fiancé. The ‘millionaire.’ He cleaned you out.”“No,” Vanessa whispered. “No, Bobby loves me. He… he helped me plan everything. He hates Adrian!”“He played you,” Ethan scoffed, stepping out of the elevator. “He saw a desperate, greedy woman, and he milked her dry. The safe? The bonds? Vanessa, if he took the corporate emergency funds… you’re bankrupt.”The realization hit her like a physical blow. The cash reserves for the hostile takeover of Crestmoor? Gone. The jewelry she had inherited? Gone. The deeds to the Lang properties? Gone. And Lucas. Her annoying, spoiled, only brother. He was tied up in a warehouse with a knife to his throat.“I have to save him,” Vanessa cried, running after Ethan. “Ethan, help me! We have to pay the ransom! I need f

The hallway of Saint Jude’s Hospital felt like it was tilting under Vanessa’s feet. She walked fast, her heels clicking sharply against the linoleum, trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and Room 402.Behind her, Ethan Cross walked with a scowl, nursing his injured arm. The two lawyers trailed them, looking pale and shaken. They had gone in there to bury a dying man. They had gone to claim the spoils of war. Instead, they had stared into the eyes of something that refused to die.“Did you see his eyes?” Vanessa whispered, pressing the elevator button repeatedly. Her hands were shaking. “The monitors were flatlining. He had a hole in his chest. And he just… stood up. He ripped the contract like it was tissue paper.”“It was adrenaline,” Ethan snapped, though he didn't look convinced. “A last burst of energy before death. Don’t let him rattle you, Vanessa. He’s bleeding out. The doctor said he has a 2% chance. He’ll be dead by morning.”The elevator doors slid open

  • Chapter 154

The Double Dip The air in the abandoned warehouse smelled of rust, damp concrete, and the intoxicating scent of stolen wealth. Bobby Jackson sat on a crate, his legs kicked up on a folding table that groaned under the weight of the Lang family fortune. It was a beautiful sight. Stacks of crisp hundred-dollar bills, bonds, deeds to properties, and a mountain of jewelry that glittered under the harsh halogen bulb swinging above. He picked up a diamond necklace—a heavy, platinum piece that Vanessa had bragged about wearing to the Met Gala. He held it up to the light, whistling low. “Look at that fire,” Bobby grilled, tossing it to Riz. “That’s easily fifty grand on the street. Maybe eighty if we find a dumb enough buyer in Mexico .” Riz caught it, grinning. “We cleaned ’em out, Boss. The safe was stacked. I found this in the drawer, too.” He held up a heavy Patek Philippe watch. “Lucas’s father’s watch,” Bobby chuckled, taking a swig of cheap beer. “Vanessa kept it as a keepsake.
