Chapter 14. Visit

"We made quite a decent hull." Maximus said as he walked into his office, he had left the guests to explore the mall and purchase whatever they wanted at a discounted price.

"Decent? We just carted away billions of millions of dollars.. that's a big win in my book." Anita replied. She was shocked that the man in front of her was calling such a feat ‘decent’.

"If I'm to achieve my goal, I need ten times that, a hundred times even!!" Maximus said in exasperation as he slumped on his chair. Anita came to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"We will get there, you can't run before you walk, you gotta walk before you run.. and run before you can fly.. it's all one step at a time." She said in a soothing voice.

"Every single day I spend out here, she's there alone, believing their lies." Maximus said as anger and wariness flashed through his eyes.

"Who is?" Anita asked. Maximus haven't really told her anything about himself, except he might be an Illegitimate son of the Zenith Family, which she didn't buy one bit.

"Take a seat, Annie, I think it's time you really know what happened." Maximus said.

Maximus opens up to her, from the time he received the letter from his family on his wedding day, to the time his mother-in-law, Agnes Richardson planned his untimely demise, and also how he miraculously found himself still alive.. of course he omitted the parts of the system and also the fact he robbed the bank. By the end of his story, Anita was already fuming.

"I don't think you should go to them yet. Even though you're rich now, and have a business, but you'll still look the same to them. You're right, you'll need ten times what you've got today, and I just know how to do it." Anita said, it was evident from her expression she was planning something devious.

"If we're to succeed, we're going to need security." Anita said in a serious tone. "But almost all the security firms are deep in with the big families. It's not like there's a place where strong people gather just hoping to be hired." Anita continued. Her words actually reminded Maximus of something.

"I think I know exactly where to get our security personnel from." Maximus stood up. Perhaps it was time to pay them a visit and collect on an old debt they owed him.

"Where exactly are you going?" Anita asked. She was surprised to see Maximus suddenly standing and walking out.

"To visit an old friend. Also, see if you can think of a way to expand our business, doesn't matter if we have to buy an existing company, just think of a way to do it." Maximus said and walked out of the office.

Maximus walked towards the elevator, pressed a button, and the doors opened, unfortunately for him, inside the elevator was the young lady he had brushed aside then. Maximus didn't say a word to her, but rather walked inside as well.

"Well, if it isn't Mister Dameon." She said with an amused expression.

"And if it isn't Miss 'what's your name again?'" Maximus replied with a teasing smile.

"It's Adeline! Adeline Johnson!" She said in exasperation.

"My apologies, Ms Johnson. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Maximus asked.

"The Johnson family will like to cooperate with you. We can discuss the terms of our cooperation if you've got time."

"Fine, let's head to my office." Maximus said and pressed the elevator button to take them back to the top floor.

Maximus grinned as he had just completed the near-impossible task that the system had dished out to him.

"We'll meet at the Royalty Hotel in a week to sign the papers." Adeline said as she stood up.

"That's fine by me." Maximus said and escorted her out of the office. He closed the door behind her.

"Well, that settles one problem. Now, to pay my old friends a visit, and thank them for what they've done to me." Maximus thought to himself as he walked back to his chair.

"This is the place." Maximus spoke to the taxi man.

"That will be $250, Sir." The middle-aged driver said. Maximus tossed him a few hundred dollar bills.

"Keep the change." Maximus said.

"Thanks a lot." The middle-aged man genuinely thanked him, he could see the money was about three times what he had charged.

Meanwhile, Maximus walked into the hospital, he went straight to the receptionist. This was a different face from the one he saw when he first came here.. well, it just made things a whole lot easier.

"Uhm, hello, I'm here for the test subject job." Maximus said, and did his best to show an enthusiastic expression.

"Good day to you Sir, do you have your ID with you?" She asked. Maximus was surprised, this didn't happen during his first time here. He didn't know what to do, he was about to bring out his new ID when he noticed the smile on the receptionist. The receptionist seeing Maximus' surprised face, misread it. "It's okay if you don't have your ID Sir, in consideration to people in your category, the higher-ups have decided to let you in as well." She spoke.

Maximus realized what was going on.. they weren't serious about the ID stuff.. it was just a way to vet out the homeless and hopeless from those with backing. If he had shown his ID just now, he would have made them twice before taking him to the lab. But without an ID, he was just a homeless bum who no one will miss if he somehow died.

"Pretty smart." Maximus muttered.

Just like before, two men on black suits walked up to him. "Please come with us Sir, we'll take you to the lab." The men spoke to Maximus in a polite manner. A mask to get the victim to feel relaxed.

"Thank you Sirs." Maximus said with a short humble bow.. but he was bawling with laughter on the inside..

"I'm gonna rob y'all blind, and destroy this deathtrap you have here." Maximus thought himself and grinned.
