Gina was boiling, anger shone in her eyes and her hatred for Kai showed in every other part of her body but Kai only remained calm as he stared at her.

Though they were nominally engaged, this was really just a marriage arrangement between the Benson and Murphy families.

But ever since Jake had returned to the Benson family, Gina had grown close to Jake, deceived by his hypocrisy, and frequently criticized Kai.

Before Jake’s arrival, she had always shown great affection for Kai and Kai on the other hand had once hoped to change her but he changed his mind after seeing that she was beyond redemption.

“Did you really steal from the Benson family and beat Jake, who hasn’t done anything to you by the way, up?” She sneered as she asked.

Kai didn’t need to say anything because he knew that Gina wouldn’t believe anything that came out of his mouth as she would always believe Jake over him.

“Did Jake tell you that himself?” Kai responded to her question with one of his own and Gina only glared at him, her eyes throwing daggers at Kai.

He didn’t want to argue with her at all, he had an air of indifference around him and there weren’t any signs of amusement in his eyes as he stared at Gina.

He only wished that she would just disappear from his sight but he knew how far-fetched that was considering the fact that she worked here.

To Gina, Kai was being nothing but a nuisance, constantly letting his jealousy for Jake take over and control him but Kai didn’t care about what she thought of him.

“Of course, Jake told me.” Gina finally answered Kai’s question and Kai scoffed. Jake had been feeding not just the Benson family but also Gina lies and there was nothing much he could do about it.

Putting his hands in his pockets, his calm demeanor seemed to anger Gina so much that her stomach churned just being in front of him.

She wanted him to disappear, she wanted to throw him out of the lobby or even the company in general but she had questions that she wanted him to answer.

“What the hell is going on with you?” She asked and Kai raised an eyebrow in confusion, “why are you letting such ugly and vile feelings fester into you?” She added.

“Why are you being so petty and jealous of Jake ever since his return?” She demanded and Kai couldn’t believe his ears but he remained silent.

“You do horrible things to him and yet he has never for once retaliated,” she went on, “Jake was always speaking so highly of you whenever we were together, why are you trying so hard to bring him down?” She added.

Kai only sighed, running his fingers through his hair as he pinched the bridge of his nose and let out an even heavier sigh.

He wanted to get away from Gina’s yapping but he had to wait for Catherine since he doesn’t really know his way around the building.

“Why can’t you learn how to be kind and excellent from Jake, why can’t you learn how to be selfless and respectful from him, huh?” She added.

“In the past, you only seemed to be petty and unable to accept that I was being so close to Jake, but now, you’ve made a name for yourself as a thief and a bandit!” Gina spat and Kai only sneered.

He was still keeping his cool and remaining silent while Gina continued saying condescending and horrible things to him.

He was disappointed in her, utterly disappointed because he realized that it wasn’t him Gina loved, but rather the heir of the Benson family—Jake, the biological son.

“Are you only willing to believe every single thing Jake tells you and not what I say?” He asked, his voice was cold and totally void of emotion.

He raised an eyebrow as he waited for an answer, he was almost willing to give her a second chance but she bursted out laughing sarcastically.

“Did you just ask me that?” Gina retorted as she mocked Kai, “of course I’m going to believe everything Jake says without doubting him for a moment.” She answered firmly.

“Jake is such a kind and sincere person, while you are nothing but a petty, little liar!” She spat, her fist clenching as she glared at him.

“I can’t believe you,” she continued, “how obsessed do you have to be that you even secretly followed me to Rainbow corporation just to cause trouble.” She snarled.

“SECURITY! I WANT YOU TO THROW THIS NUISANCE OUT!” She yelled before Kai could say anything and the security guards soon started rushing closer.

Kai remained calm even as the men stood behind him, he was being humiliated but since he knew that they wouldn’t be able to do anything to him soon, he only smiled.

“Let me make sure I’m getting things right,” he smiled as he looked into Gina’s eyes, reading her facial expression and intimidating her with his presence.

“Does this mean that you’re breaking up with me, you’re breaking off our engagement and don’t want anything to do with me anymore?” He asked and Gina laughed.

She thought that the question was ridiculous because it was clear what she was trying to do, she doesn’t want Kai, Jake is the one she wants so why is he asking her ridiculous questions?

“We should’ve broken up and broken off this relationship long since Jake returned,” she answered firmly, her mind made up.

“Because I only intended to marry the true heir of the Benson family, not you, a mere imposter.” She mocked, laughing at Kai and taking a step away from him.

The security guards were ready to carry out Gina’s orders because they knew her and knew nothing about Kai and to them, Kai was an intruder.

“Sir, you have to leave right now or we would be forced to use force on you and that would be humiliating.” One of the men said and the other joined in.

“We’re going to have to throw you out of here.” The other said and just at that moment, a cold voice rang out, resonating through the air.

“LET’S SEE WHO DARES!” The voice yelled coldly and everyone turned in the direction of the voice to see that it was the company’s CEO, Catherine!

Time sped up so fast as they all enjoyed their company, Kai was conflicted, he contemplated telling the guys about what had happened with Catherine, and what he saw last night, but at the same time he didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere.“Kai?” Lorenzo called when he noticed just how deep in thought that Kai had gotten. They’d also come to the conclusion that they were going to tell him though they didn’t yet know how to effectively tackle the situation. The irregulars are an awful bunch of creatures, and they would go as far as ruining a different country just so that they could throw Kai off, so they must have a meeting and discuss how they’d handle the situation.“Are you okay?” Lorenzo asked, and Kai only sighed as he dropped the game pad, Shadow and Atticus were playing a different game, leaving Lorenzo and Kai with theirs.“I don’t know.” Kai responded as he felt the soul bond pulse again, he could tell that there was something strange going on, it was as though there was another

Catherine laid on the bed, her eyes closed. Her stomach churned for a moment, and she felt the sodden urge to barf again. At first she’d thought that she could just power through, but she couldn’t.As slowly and quietly as she could because she knew that Kai was definitely going to worry if he knew that she went to the bathroom to vomit again right after telling him that she was fine.“What the hell is going on?” She thought to herself as she bent over the basin and vomited again, now her stomach felt empty and she felt like she was going to pass out at any time. Her head felt light, her legs weak as she slowly walked back to the bed and laid on it. She wanted to message Teresa, and talk to her about it, but she knew how Teresa would blow things out of proportion. And with the charity fair just around the corner, the last thing Catherine wanted was for Kai to fuss and worry about her for something that could potentially be nothing. The door flew open, and she tried to sit up but her b

Kai and Catherine spent the entire day just having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Kai wouldn’t have it any other way, and Catherine was more than grateful for this moment with him.“I’m really glad we decided to do this.” Catherine said, her eyes closed as she rested against his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat as if it were a lullaby.“I know,” Kai responded, his hand resting on her stomach. The day had been so peaceful and playful that they didn’t even get the spare minute to think about anything other than them. The night plunged deeper into darkness, and the both of them didn’t want to fall asleep out of fear that it was all going to be over, but at the same time, they were both looking forward to a new day.The dimly-lit room echoed with the sound of pure silence and bliss that was also loud with worse that they didn’t need to say to each other. At a far distance, they could hear faint croaking and the chirping of birds that hadn’t quite called it a night ye

BACK AT THE GRANT ESTATE.“We can’t tell Kai about this, can we?” Atticus asked, and everyone was silent, neither of them were able to say anything as they stared at the paper in front of them. The silence was a little ominous, they could all feel the sense of foreboding, and it felt like whoever had sent that paper to the front of the Grant’s estate gate had been waiting for the perfect moment. There was a lot of time that they could have struck but for some reason, they had chosen now to send the letter and the day of the charity auction to strike.“Of course we can’t tell Kai,” Teresa responded finally, her voice bringing a halt to the silence as she crumpled the paper and dumped it in the trash with a sigh and a finger running through her hair.“But knowing Kai, there’s a high chance that he would find out even though we don’t say anything.” She sighed again, and even though she was trying to make sure that whatever was going to happen didn’t get to her, there’s no denying that it

“As long as I get to watch you enjoying yourself to your heart’s content, I’ll be alright.” He finished. Those words, as childish and little as they might seem, had hit her right in her chest. He was telling her that she could indulge as much as she wanted and he would always be there not to judge her, but to make sure she’s enjoying herself.“I was just kidding,” Catherine laughed, the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around. “If I ate that much, I’d weigh about 6 million pounds.” She laughed.Kai laughed too before his expression turned serious. “Then I’d have to train my arms and body so that I can lift you up anywhere.”Catherine was enjoying herself so much that she was starting to feel like she was doing something wrong. She laughed wholeheartedly, she was happy, and everything was going so well, until….“Oh, look who it is.” Catherine turned in the direction of the voice the moment she saw Kai’s happiness veered quickly to sadness and then anger. The switch was too quick.
