"I am Leo, and I WILL RISE UP THE RANK!"

Legolas who was A-Ranked only scoffed as he spread his legs wide open, waving the beast sword in his firm but flexible grip. "You're just a D-Rank, boy. I'll kill you without breaking a sweat."

This was the beast-weapon combat class at Earth's Quirk Academy. Fong Yuk, the combat teacher stood outside the combat ground watching the two students with keen interest. Of course, Legolas was A-Ranked and he will most likely win even though the combat class didn't allow students use their quirks to fight. But he couldn't deny the level of determination and tenacity that Leo was showing even though he was a D-Rank. He loved to imagine where this is headed.

The two of them has an A-Ranked beast sword in their hands, so the match could be as fair as possible without the use of their quirks.

"Round two start!"

Leo immediately lunged at Legolas with his A-Ranked beast sword, throwing loads of attack at Lego and using the sword impacts to stay in the air, pushing Lego to the edge of the stage.

Easily, Lego parried all the attacks with simple waves of his own A-Ranked sword too. He moved back constantly to give him a little gap from Leo, but Leo wasn't stopping his attacks.

Fong Yuk, the combat teacher smiled at what he was seeing. To others, it seemed like Leo was getting the upper hand, pushing Legolas where he wants, but to Fong Yuk Legolas was skillfully showing Leo where to attack, so he was in fact controlling Leo.

Clang, clang, clang, the combat class rang with the noise from the clash.

Legolas who was tired of defending, twisted suddenly to his left and jumped over Leo as he landed. Now, he has more space behind him and Leo has been cornered to the edge of the stage.

"Let me give you some o' that too, boy."

Suddenly, Legolas' beast weapon began to glow in a deep orange colour, lighting the dim stage up.

The students watching gasped. "Why is his weapon glowing? But we are not allowed to use quirks, right?" One of the students asked, concerned.

"That's not a quirk. He's only activated the beast weapons' rage mode, so it will get stronger and faster. It's similar to when a live beast suddenly become more dangerous when wounded," another student replied the first.

Leo stood still, watching Legolas activate the rage mode. He'd have done the same with his beast weapon too, but he doesn't know how to activate it. Leo still has a lot to learn if he wants to really rise up the rank.

"Die!" Legolas screamed as he launched the glowing energy from the sword at Leo. The attack was too fast for Leo to dodge. Everyone thought the fight has ended, but at the last second Leo moved...

It was like the glitch in a game. Instead of moving left or right to dodge the attack, Leo appeared to have moved right through the attack, leaving his fading figure behind him and appearing right in front of Legolas with his weapon poised.

"WHAT?! A phantom evasion?! How did he learn that?! Only an S-rank could do that!" A student screamed.

Fong Yuk was enjoying this the more. He never expected a D-rank student to perform a phantom evasion. It has always been a thing for the S-ranked because they have more energy to perform it. It might not look like it, but the phantom evasion takes a lot of energy and only someone with a high level of stamina could perform it. "He should be getting weaker by now," Fong Yuk said to himself.

Leo has morphed so close to Legolas that there was no space for Legolas to react to the attack. "No, you die!"

Leo whipped his sword hard from the right straight at Legolas' shoulder. He already know that Legolas was weak in defending from his left, so he was ready to spend his last energy into bruising him once.

A sword came up to block the attack, but Legolas' hold was too weak to block it completely. Leo's attack couldn't be stopped as Legolas' sword was knocked off his hand, and the sharp edge dug into his left shoulder, ripping both fabric and skin.

Legolas went down on his knees, furious.

"I am Leo, and I WILL RISE UP THE RANK!" Leo repeated after his victory.

Fong Yuk called on a B-Ranked student with healing quirk to come up on stage and heal Legolas as first aid before he is taken to the medics. The girl jumped on stage, eager to carry out the assignment but she stopped dead in her tracks at what she saw.

Legolas had dropped the sword and was now gathering some energy in his body. His eyes had turned white, and blood was coming out of his nose. He has started gathering his quirk against the wish of the teacher. "You must die," he growled.

Leo's back was turned to him, so he couldn't see what was happening behind.

"Leo, watch out!" The girl screamed.

Leo turned immediately to see what the warning was all about. He saw Legolas standing upright with his head down in fury. "I SAID DIE!!!"

Legolas jumped a little and slammed his feet together at once. Immediately, a hundred large icicles was formed out of his body, with the pointy ends aimed at Leo.

With a rush, the icicles flew towards Leo at amazing speed. There was nothing he could do as he was not ready to perform another phantom evasion. He used his sword to displace some of the icicles and braced his body for impact.

About twenty icicles dug deep into his body as he fell down with a loud thud.

"I SAID DIE!!!" Legolas screamed again as he stood over Leo and another hundred icicles ready to attack.

Leos eyes began to dim, and his head felt light. There was nothing he could do.

Fong Yuk saw the madness on stage, but he was too far to immediately stop it. So, he started running towards the students.

"I SAID DIE! DIE!! DIE!!!" Legolas combined all the icicles in front of him into a large one with a sharp and dangerous pointy end before throwing it at Leo's lying figure, aimimg to kill him in his blind rage. Leo closed his eyes in surrender.

"Please work if you're really there," Leo muttered silently to himself. "I can't die now."

Suddenly a purple energy started swirling around Leo, forming rapidly as the icicles edged closer. The large blue Icicle made impact with Leo's body but instead of piercing him, a loud explosion went up.

Fong Yuk who was already near the students was thrown back with a strong force before hitting his head against the wall.

Purple flames surrounded the classroom after the impact. The other students ran away to the other corner of the room.

Leo has an idea of what just happened but he has never really experienced it before.

Engulfed in the thick purple energy that has now surrounded the stage, he opened his eyes slightly to look at his attacker. Legolas was seen as the top wall of the classroom, hanging limp and probably dead from his own large icicle which had impaled his stomach and went out of his back, sticking him to the wall.

The Healer girl who was on the stage with them has been thrown further back into a corner where the beast weapons are enclosed. She appeared limp as well. Leo wished she wasn't dead.

---

This was the beginning of Leo's journey in conquering Earth's rank system... And this takes us 78 years back to when Leo was nothing but an ordinary earthling with no quirk, like every other person on earth.

Yes, this was where his journey began, and it must be understood why he was still alive 78 years ago...

******************************************

This was 78 years ago before Earth became awakened to the idea of quirks. This was when everyone was normal, and any signs of abnormality in humans is condemned.

And this was what led to the grand evolution of humans, as the scientists call it...

In the void of space, far off from Earth's atmosphere, a large otherworldly monster growled angrily in the enclosure of a large space ship. From Earth, the ship appeared like a tiny star which was sighted from afar by earth's observers. This was strange because the star has not always been there.

But in fact, it wasn't a star or a satellite or a luminous space debris, it was the Xollante ship, and their sole aim was to cause destruction on Earth.

The creature called the Xollante paced back and forth before its crew, growling and making irritating noise as a way of communication and motivation. The crew growled back, louder at the end of the commander's message.

The commander of the Xollante race was about 8 feet tall. To understand its facial features, One must imagine a large green lizard. It's eyes were deep red, with no other colour, and when it opened its mouth wide, four long fangs appeared, giving it a very dominant look.

All over its body apart from the head was steel gears and armour which covered its scaly green skin from the chest down to the toes. His steel whirred and clattered as he addressed his crew, and in his hand was an advanced tier beast weapon. These weapons are made from beasts that are alien to Earth. The cores of the beasts are taken and turned to formidable weapons that improves one's fighting abilities, depending on the type of beast it was gotten from.

The crew gave a loud, irritating cry after the commander was done addressing them. Then, they all set to action.

Surrounding the Mother Xollante ship were 1,000 other battle ships which hovered around like buzzer flies. They turned and sped and buzzed after the ship. These smaller ships are for battles in case of any obstruction from the planet they are planning to invade.

And the planet they are planning to invade is Earth.

Standing with his hands akimbo was Jade, sratching his red hair and shooting dagger stares at Leo. His rage was visible. "Errr, hi. Wh...what are you doing in my...room?" Leo suddenly became jittery. The question shook Jade to the gut. He let out a howling laugh and said, "what?! Your room?!" "Yes, this is my room. Mr Al assigned this section to me," Leo explained with his head still bowed. "That gotta be a mistake, chicken. Let me see your key." Leo brought out the blue VIP card from his pocket and flashed it before Jade's eyes. Jade suddenly grew restless after confirming that Leo didn't make a mistake. "No, this cannot be right. I was supposed to be paired with...with... Okay pause, first of all, what is your last name?" "Rayden," Leo replied silently. "Is that your family name or some last name you coined yourself?" "I don't understand what you mean," Leo pretended, even when he knew what J

"Welcome back home, lads. Let's begin," a middle age man announced to the students inside the portal room. The room was dome shaped just like the one on Luxus. It felt like they haven't even left the blue planet yet. Behind the middle aged man were two female teachers as well. One was tall and skinny, with large glasses sitting prettily on her long nose, serving as a fashion touch rather than for better eyesight purpose. Laura Black wore skimpy brown skirts under a short brown coat. She smile broadly as she scanned the children under her glasses. The other lady was a much younger one, One could even mistake her for one of the students. She tied her black hair in a bun, was on jumpers and sleek sneaker shoes. She looks like one befitting a sports teacher, but she wasn't. Her name was Amelia Grenn and she wasn't really in the mood for this early morning 'student welcoming'. Her sullen face testified to her lack of sleep. "This here by my right is Mrs Laur

Loca stood beside the doorway of the sleek DMX aircraft, observing as the students filed in with surprising calmness and order. Everyone with their bags dropped them off at the little luggage compartment at the rear of the DMX. As the last of them found their seats, Loca couldn't help but chuckle to himself at their unsuspecting behavior. Inside the cockpit, Leo sat in silent disbelief at the sudden influx of passengers. He couldn't understand how the aircraft could contain so many people at once since it was a small one. Well, Loca, had deftly maneuvered a lever in the cockpit before coming down, causing the rear of the plane to extend and reveal a hidden compartment filled with additional seats that seamlessly emerged from the aircraft's frame. Leo was awed when he looked behind him to find that the DMX has lengthened to about twice it's size. Outside, at one corner of the field, the six staff of the academy was watching the kids go. "They are so troublesome, but I'm gonna miss th

Loca didn't sleep throughout the night, so he didn't have to wake to start his important job for the day. He has been watching the dark night go by, sometimes staring at the two moons of two different shades of silver, shining gloriously in the sky. He is a well-built man with fresh white skin, an easy smile, and a perfectly blond hair. His rippling muscles testifies to his intense workout routine, and he walks straight and firm, almost in a robotic manner. His nose is moderately pointed, his mouth always curved in a thin smile has a few tufts of hair round it. He is not proud to call them beards, but he is not so shameful as to shave them either. Above all, he is an admirable man. The military base has always been his home right from a very young age. His dad was a top military official with super speed as his quirk, and his mom was a water controller. Everyone had high expectations for Loca when he was born only to find out that he was a Quirkless boy. The disappointment he gave h

"You know what, Leo. I think we should stop here for today. That short history is taking a huge chunk out of you. Go back to bed while I prepare the students. We move as early as possible tomorrow.""What about the story about how humans came about quirks?" Leo asked, trying to keep from sobbing any further."That's another long VR session which I don't think you have the time to watch. I can only tell you the most important part."Leo sniffed."We are descendants of Earthlings. Our ancestors were earthlings. Just know that for now.""I kind of figured that out. I just don't know how that got to be," Leo commented."The ancient humans, advancing their newly found space tech decided to go exploring the solar system. They were finding habitable planets in case of emergency. Then, they found E-73 Remoliluxus. What more can they wish for? It has the same number of hours as Earth, it has a safe atmosphere and the water is also good... But funnily, there was no life form here.Experimenting

  • The VR System (2)

A whole familiar world opened up to Leo. It was like he was there when it all happened. From his view, he was checking out the Earth from space, sitting on a large space debris and watching the blue globe go round and round. After a while, the camera which served as his eyes, started descending fast and straight at Earth.Leo could almost feel the rush of wind in his eyes as the camera gathered speed, shooting like a destructive meteor straight into earth's atmosphere. But it didn't enter earth's atmosphere before the camera stopped. Once again, it landed on a space debris and scanned the nearby space. Glowing bright like a star at first, a very large space ship came ripping through space, knocking off space debris till it got into full view for Leo to observe. Behind the large space ship were thousands of other ships with lesser mass but with more flexibility. The colossal spaceship loomed in the vastness of space, an imposing shape of gleaming metal that brought a sense of both awe
