Eryndor, Adam Hill, walked into the adventurers' guild building. His new human form blended in perfectly. The kingdom was on high alert against elves with unknown origin. No one suspected a thing.
Adam approached the registration table. "Excuse me," he said with a smile. "I'd like to register as an adventurer." The clerk raised an eyebrow. "You're a bit old for this, aren't you?" he scoffed. "Adventuring is for the young." Adam chuckled. He knew well he was around thirty-five years when he was still on Earth. But it's perfect for infiltration as everyone knew that the dark elf Eryndor had the looks of an early twenties young elf.. not a mid-thirties human male. "Age is just a number." Adam said. The clerk shrugged. "Suit yourself. Fill out the form." Adam took the parchment and began filling the registration. "Name: Adam Hill. Class, Magic-Sword User." The clerk handed Adam a badge. "Rank F. You're starting from the bottom." Adam took the badge, unfazed, he pinned it to his cloak. Next, Adam approached the notice board. Quests ranged from monster hunting to retrieval missions. Adam scanned the board, seeking challenging quests. A noble's requests caught his eye. "Perfect," he thought. Adam chose a quest. "Eliminate the pack of wolves terrorizing Lord Harrington's lands. Difficulty, High. Reward, 1,000 gold coins." Adam smiled. "This will get their attention." He accepted the quest. He took the parchment from the questboard to the clerk. The clerk raised an eyebrow. "You sure you're ready for this, new adventurer? There are easier quests.?" Adam nodded. "No, I want this one. I was born ready for this." Adam hired a carriage, heading to Lord Harrington's lands. As they rode, the coachman glanced at Adam. "Excuse me, sir. I've driven many adventurers to Lord Harrington's estate." "What's your advice?" Adam asked. The Coachman said. "Mind your manners, sir. Lord Harrington's a royal court member." "But?" Adam sensed a hesitation. The coachman leaned in. "He's... impatient. Irrational, some say." Adam nodded. "I'll be cautious. Thank you for the warning." The coachman smiled. "Welcome, sir." After an hour's ride, the carriage stopped before a grand mansion. Adam paid the coachman. "Keep this carriage ready. I'll need it later." The coachman nodded. "Yes, sir." Adam stepped down, gazing at the mansion. A butler emerged, dignified and poised. "Welcome, Adam Hill. I am Butler Jenkins." Adam bowed. "Lord Harrington expects you. Follow me." Adam trailed Butler Jenkins into the mansion. The interior was lavish, with ornate furnishings. Adam's eyes adjusted to the opulent surroundings. Butler Jenkins stopped before a large door. "Lord Harrington's study. Please, enter." Adam took a deep breath. Time to meet the impatient Lord Harrington. He pushed open the door. Butler Jenkins led Adam to a lavish reception room. "Please, sit. Lord Harrington will attend to you shortly." Adam sat, admiring the room's elegance. A minute passed. The door swung open. A middle-aged man, dressed in an Italian swallowtail suit, entered. His scowl deepened as he approached Adam. Lord Harrington's piercing gaze scrutinized Adam. "So, you're Adam Hill, the adventurer." Adam stood, bowing. "Yes, Lord Harrington." Lord Harrington's voice was stern. "I have one condition, I want you eradicate those wolves within one day." He emphasized. "If you fail, you won't receive a single coin." Adam nodded calmly. "I accept your terms, Lord Harrington." Lord Harrington's scowl remained. "Butler Jenkins will accompany you." He gestured to the butler. "He'll show you the wolves' last known location." Butler Jenkins bowed. "Yes, milord." Adam stood. "I'm ready when you are, Butler Jenkins." Lord Harrington's gaze lingered. "Don't disappoint me, Adam Hill." Adam's determined nod reassured him. "I won't, Lord Harrington." With the briefing concluded, Adam followed Butler Jenkins. His mission had just begun. As they rode, Butler Jenkins turned to Adam. "I apologize for Lord Harrington's behavior, sir. He's usually not that... abrasive." Adam waved his hand. "It's nothing. I understand." Butler Jenkins nodded. "Lord Harrington's a good man, truly." The carriage halted at a rocky path. "We're near," Butler Jenkins said. Wolf howls echoed through the air. Adam dismounted. "Leave the rest to me." Butler Jenkins nodded. "Good luck, Adam Hill." He turned the horses around. "May fortune smile upon you." With a final nod, Butler Jenkins rode off. Adam watched him go. Then, he walked towards the cave. The wolf howls grew louder as Adam entered the cave. A pack of wolves lay before him. Their black and brown fur was different from the wind-wolves' silver furs. These were ordinary wolves. Adam drew his sword. He was ready to cast his magic should the need arise. Time to complete the quest. Adam charged forward. The wolves snarled. Ready to defend themselves. Adam drew his sword, casting the flaming sword spell. The wolves took a step back out of fear, and this made Adam smile, but his joy didn't last long as a larger wolf emerged, its eyes gleaming. "I am Fangshaw, beta to our Alpha," it declared. "In the Alpha's absence, I defend our pack." Black lightning crackled around Fangshaw's body. Adam readied himself as Fangshaw launched at him. Adam underestimated the wolf's strength. He was knocked against the cave wall. Dazed, Adam struggled to stand. He realized that this wolf named Fangshaw had more strength that him. Adam regained his footing. He charged forward while casting the wind spell of the wind-wolves. Accelerated movement fueled his attack. Adam punched Fangshaw's jaw with his right hand. The wolf stumbled. Adam performed a backflip. His sword flashed in the dim light as he threw it at Fangshaw's right leg. The sword bit deep. Fangshaw yelped. Black lightning intensified. Adam stood his ground, he hadn't even used his trump card yet so there was nothing to fear. Adam approached the fallen Fangshaw. Suddenly, a thunderous voice echoed through the cavez "Stop, Human!" Adam froze. His body wouldn't move. A colossal wolf emerged from the shadows. Fur as black as night. Deep purple eyes. "I am Lucius Von Black, the last living Druid Alpha," it growled. The grated voice sent shivers down Adam's spine. Lucius's gaze locked onto Adam. Adam felt his strength seeping away. The more he looked into Lucius's eyes, the weaker he became. Adam's vision blurred, His legs buckled, and then he collapsed. Everything went dark. Adam lost consciousness. "Not again" these were last words he spoke before his consciousness drifted to God knows where.
