After another week, Natasha was facing a crisis. The project that she was supposed to start working on, which she needed the money for and she was going to get it from the contract, had to be put on hold. She could not find a way to contact Mr. Smith, and Henry told her that Mr. Smith refused to talk to him about anything concerning her because she had offended him. He refused to say how.

But then, the moment of salvation came when Natasha was told that CEO Smith of Smith's Group was having a get-together. After seven long years of silence, he wanted to get to know everybody in the business world. All CEOs were invited, as long as you could show that you had a company doing well, you were welcome.

Natasha, on that day, dressed her best in a red dress that stood out. It was off-shoulder, with a slit in the front, and it hugged her body so tight it showed off all her curves. From what she had heard, Mr. Smith was not yet 30 years old and still a single man. So she still had a chance to woo him. If talking professionally wouldn’t work ,besides, she had already filed for divorce.

The drive to the ballroom where the event was taking place was quiet. When Natasha arrived, she saw more than 200 businessmen and women in their finest clothes, interacting with each other.

The hall was big, and there were different sorts of dishes. Chefs were standing by in case you needed something that wasn’t on the menu or on the table.

“Wow, Mr. Smith sure knows how to throw a party,” she said in excitement, as she looked around, waiting and hoping that she would meet Mr. Smith.

From the corner of her eye, she saw Olivia Blake standing beside her father. They must have also come here to see Mr. Smith, since no one had seen his face before.

She decided to approach both of them. She walked up to them and greeted them, and they exchanged greetings.

“I guess you also came to see Mr. Smith,” Natasha said with a smile.

“Yes,” Olivia replied as her father walked away to talk to a friend.

“Well, I also came here to meet him as well,” Natasha said, trying to keep the conversation going.

“Have a nice day, Miss Natasha. I investigated things about you and found out that you treated your ex-husband, Mr. Elijah, like trash even though he’s a good man. I do not want to associate with you,” Olivia told her. Without another word, she walked away, leaving Natasha standing there fuming.

Natasha clenched her fists.

“Who does that brat think she is? The only thing she has is her father’s money, and I worked for everything I have. After getting the contract from Mr. Smith, I will teach you and your father a lesson,” Natasha huffed under her breath.

She had worked so hard to get to this position, and she wasn’t going to let anybody treat her like she wasn’t important.

Henry saw Natasha and walked up to her to exchange greetings. Then, suddenly, the lights went off and a spotlight pointed to the stage. All eyes turned.

A young man slowly walked up to the stage, took off his sunglasses, and smiled. There were gasps of shock heard everywhere. Natasha froze in place, her eyes locked onto the stage.

Elijah, standing on stage, walked up to the mic.

“It’s nice to see everybody out here. I want to thank you for coming to this event which I organised.” Elijah said with a smile.

“Many of you have been wondering who this Mr. Smith is. Well, you’ve seen me in flesh and blood. I would like to introduce myself as Mr. Elijah Smith, the CEO of Smith’s Group. I hope that you can interact or maybe form partnerships from today’s gathering. Have a wonderful evening,” Elijah finished his speech and got off the stage. The lights turned back on, and everybody stood frozen, just watching him. Most of them knew him as the stay at home husband of Natasha, the owner of Natasha Enterprise.

“Isn’t that the husband of Mrs. Natasha? The one that she said she would divorce because of Henry? How is he Mr. Smith? Isn’t Henry good friends with Mr. Smith?” A man asked.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I think they got divorced.” another replied.

Natasha heard all those voices, but she could not comprehend what was happening. The only thing she knew was that something was terribly wrong. She turned to Henry and saw that he was equally shocked. She wondered why he was acting shocked when he had said he was friends with Mr. Smith.

“Henry, what is going on? I thought you said you're good friends with Mr. Smith. Why is it that Elijah is Mr. Smith?” Natasha asked. Henry was in a pickle, because he did not know how to answer. Many people were listening, and this was not a good place for this conversation.

“Um… well…”

“Henry,” Elijah called out, and Henry flinched as he turned and saw Elijah smiling at him.

Henry wondered what kind of game Elijah was playing, because Elijah knew he didn’t know Mr. Smith. It felt like Elijah was toying with him.

“You know, you said you were my friend. But from what I remember, you’re just the man who tried to chase after a married woman. Well, you can have her for yourself, since we got divorced,” Elijah said loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear.

Elijah’s bodyguards stood beside him, making sure no one got too close.

“Elijah, so you are really Mr. Smith of Smith’s Group?” Natasha asked and he nodded.

“Yes, I am the Mr. Smith who gave you the first contract, and the one who cancelled the second contract.” Elijah replied and she staggered back.

“I am also the one who’s always been helping you behind closed doors, so you could build your company without saying someone helped you, so that you could be proud of yourself. But it seems that after helping you and staying with you when you were poor, I wasn’t good enough when you got rich. I guess I chose the wrong wife,” Elijah finally revealed the truth. Everyone gasped, and Natasha just stood with her mouth open.

“So Henry is not your friend and he was not the one who got the contract for me?”Natasha asked to be sure she wasn't hearing things.

“He wasn’t.” Elijah chuckled as he saw the surprised look on her face.

Yes that was all he wanted, for her to realise she messed up.

“Why didn’t you just tell me the truth?” Natasha asked him.

“Would you have believed me if I did? You didn’t even believe me when I told you I didn’t push him down. Back then, I even hid my own identity because you refused to date rich men in college ,just so I could be with you. And this is what I get. Well, it’s all in the past,” Elijah said with a sigh.

“Henry, let this be the last time you use my name and lie or say that you’re friends with me or I’ll sue you for defamation. I hope you understand that?” Elijah asked him and he nodded immediately.

“I understand you.” Henry replied in a small voice.

“Do you think you should apologise for the lies you told, or do I need to get the truth out of you?” Elijah asked him.

“I am very sorry for lying and saying that I am your friend. We are not friends. I have never even met the real Mr. Smith before. Just forgive me and don’t sue me,” Henry apologised immediately, not wanting to offend Elijah ,he was a very powerful man, not someone you wanted to be on the bad side of.

Natasha looked at Henry in disgust.

“I cannot believe that you would lie to me. You ruined my marriage!” she yelled and slapped him hard across the face.

Henry’s face twisted in anger ,as he raised his hand to strike her.

“Mr. Henry, are you really going to slap a woman in a public place?” Elijah asked, reminding him where they were.

Henry lowered his hand and ran it through his hair.

“No… I was just touching my hair,” he lied.

But everyone knew he had wanted to hit her.

“Well, since all of this has been cleared up, you can have a nice day.” Elijah said since he had other things to deal with.

“Elijah, please wait. Let us talk,” Natasha said as she grabbed hold of his hand. He pulled his hand away and his bodyguards stood in front of her.

“I have nothing to say to you. Because right now, if you say you're sorry just because you’ve seen I’m rich, I’ll call you a gold digger. So let it go,” Elijah said.

He was about to walk away when Olivia Blake and her father walked up to him.

“Mr. Elijah, it is a pleasure to see you. I did not know that you were Mr. Smith, but I guess everything works out for good. I was looking for you to thank you for saving my life that day when those kidnappers tried to take me. I have been looking for you. I hope we can spend some time together so I can thank you properly,” Olivia told Elijah.

Elijah remembered that she was the one he saved that day. He had heard someone was looking for him ,but wasn’t interested then. Now, seeing that she was beautiful ,he stretched out his hand.

“Well, please accompany me today.” Elijah told her.

“Yes, sir,” Olivia said as she placed her hand in his. He entangled it with his and walked away, while Natasha watched them.

“Elijah, please wait! I need to speak to you!” Natasha cried out, but Elijah didn’t turn back. His bodyguards stopped her.

Natasha just watched him and Olivia walk away.

“That should be me in his hands,” she cried out and turned to Henry.

“You evil manipulative bastard! You lied to me and made me get divorced. How can you live with yourself after all the lies and manipulation?” she yelled, hitting him on the chest.

Henry pushed her away.

“Don’t blame me for your divorce. You’re the one who decided your husband wasn’t good enough and treated him like trash. Why are you blaming me?” he said angrily and walked away, leaving Natasha standing there, wondering what she should do.

Then she suddenly remembered the divorce proceedings.

“I need to stop it,” she said aloud.

Natasha rushed out of the hall and went outside to make a call to her lawyer to stop the divorce proceedings. If she wasn’t divorced from him, maybe he would give the relationship another chance or maybe she could still get something from him now that he was a rich man.

The lawyer answered the call.

“Stop the divorce proceedings. I do not want to get divorced anymore.”

“Ma’am, I don’t think that’s possible. The divorce was approved two days ago. I’ve already sent a copy to Mr. Elijah and he received it and thanked me. You both are now divorced. You’re a free woman.”

Natasha heard this and her phone fell from her hand and hit the floor.

Elijah must have known that they were finally divorced, that was why he decided to reveal his identity now, so she would get nothing from him. Since they had no children ,she was the one who had said they should wait at least seven years ,so she could focus on her career ,there was nothing tying them together anymore.

Natasha wanted to leave but stumbled and fell to her knees, just staying there.

“What’s wrong with her?”

“Mr. Smith is her ex-husband. She treated him like trash, not knowing he was a rich man. Now that they’re divorced and she knows the truth, she’s probably going insane. You should leave her before she lashes out on you,” someone said.
