Niobe and Felix were locked in an amorous embrace, unclothed, female over male, goddess over god. Their lips overlapped, their tongues jousted.

Niobe's pelvis grinding over Felix rubbed against his erection, making him moan. It happened without warning. Only a few minutes had passed, and she was dripping wet. Felix's erection slipped, found the mark, and the penetration occurred abruptly.

Both gasped in unison into the darkness. Niobe was louder, unwinding years of chastity, bellowing into the wilderness. Then she bounced up and down on him. She was haphazard at first, but then slowed herself to a pleasurable tempo.

The forest had come alive around them—insects chittering, sleeping birds awakening, and animals responding to their rhythm.

Niobe tilted her head back and rode Felix faster, who found a deeper inroad into her. He went deeper and harder. In response, her pupils set aflame, and her skin gleamed like gold. The goddess's moans echoed sonorously in the clearing and beyond.

The fruits born from the body are heightened for divine beings. Therefore, be it delicacies, beauty, music, or sex, they experienced those senses at a much higher level than human beings.

The couple climbed together towards orgasm every second, but never really reached it. It was an extended journey of pleasure that felt more enduring than their immortal lives.

Crunch! Snap!

Somewhere nearby, outside the clearing, there was a rustle of leaves, followed by the breaking of twigs. Then they heard heavy footsteps, and a figure appeared. Someone or something had breached the periphery of the clearing.

"What is that?" Felix asked as Niobe jumped off him.

The forest sounds died all of a sudden. The two love-makers, sensing danger, put on their clothes and rushed to their feet. Felix's manhood tented shamefully from under his tunic. Whatever beast had rudely interrupted his sexual congress will have to pay.

"Lucerna!" Niobe uttered, stepping forward with her warrior stance. She had called forth light.

An orb of white appeared overhead, mildly lighting up the clearing. They saw an enormous, deformed figure emerging from the woods. It had eyes as large as saucers, glowing a crimson red in the dark.

As immortal, indestructible gods, they had nothing to fear from a forest creature. Still, Felix reclaimed a familiar sentiment that he used to have as a mortal. During his year at the Citadel, living luxuries with Niobe, he had forgotten what it felt like.

FEAR. He was suddenly afraid.

"Gladio," he announced. A gladius sword appeared in his grip out of thin air. It had a blue hilt with lapis lazuli studded in the pommel, the mark of one belonging to House Anaximander.

Only recently was Felix taught how to use the pocket dimension, where they could store weapons, objects, and other essentials. Gods could summon the object needed with the simple utterance of a spell.

"You are in the presence of gods from the Ascendancy," Felix warned the intruder. "Reveal your identity and pay your respects, or be smitten!"

The specter walked into the light. Over seven feet tall, it had a hulking, grotesque body that wasn't even human. It was made of a pile of rocks and boulders. From the crevices, a red haze emanated as if fiery magma within.

"Fal-se go-ds mu-st die!" the monster announced in a mealy-mouthed voice. It started walking towards them at an increased pace.

"What creature is it? A golem?" Felix inquired.

"It seems like it," Niobe said, "Perhaps one of the rogue magicians in the plebe cities spelled one into life and left it in the outlands when it got troublesome."

"Arcum!" she uttered the spell, and a recurve bow appeared in her grasp. "Let's kill it before our sex drive dies."

Her lover chuckled, but his expression was still fearful. Something was wrong.

As Niobe pulled the bow's string, a flaming arrow materialized at the nocking point. She pulled a bit more until it was taut and then released her pinch.

Zip! The arrow hissed across the clearing towards its target. Twang! Shockingly, it hit the rocky monster square in the chest, but had no effect, instead shattering into pieces.

"Fal-se go-ds MU-ST die!" the fiend repeated, bridging the gap between them faster. It had almost broken into a run.

"Your attack did not work?" Felix exclaimed. "How is that possible?"

"It is immune to the fire element," said Niobe, who had half a century of battle experience. "That is not uncommon for a golem made from the earth element."

She eyed her anxious lover with concern and attempted to calm him. "Trust me, we'll dispose of the creature easily. Right now, let's play with it. Perhaps it is a lava golem. Try one of your icicle attacks."

Felix nodded and raised his hand like a claw. "Nero Impexis!"

An array of sharp icicles appeared before him in a circular pattern. They hovered, waiting for his command. With a twitch of fingers, he shot them ahead to meet their racing adversary.

The icicles, capable of riddling a tree trunk easily never missed and always brought destruction. Splash! As soon as they entered the monster's proximity, they melted abruptly and collapsed into oodles of water. It failed!

The heat emanating from the inferno within the lava golem was so intense that it could melt divine ice in an instant.

"FAL-SE GO-DS MU-ST DIE!" it barfed, now breaking into a run. The earth shook with every step the monster took. A collision with the gods was imminent.

Tarsus, Damon, and Felicity climbed down the rope ladder, one after another. The womb of the cavern was dark and dreary. It was a treacherous descent from the ledge, slithering down over fifty feet of rock. The rope ladder had sturdy wooden rungs for support, but everything was damp and slippery. The youngsters had to be very careful lest they risk falling to their deaths. The walls were covered with moss. A layer of mist hung in the air, stinging their noses. Felicity had insisted on going down first. Perhaps it had something to do with depriving the men of an accidental peek under her tunic if she had gone last. Or maybe she did not want men to lead the path. Regardless, the Muse had her way and took the forefront. The shaft’s rock parapet had prevented them from capturing the underground panorama earlier. Halfway down the ladder, they could see how large the cavern was.The hollow’s roof was so high that clouds formed near the upper ceiling. A str

“Ah! Adventurers! You came!” Hector mooted loudly. Damon and Tarsus were dressed in leather battle armor. Felicity, who was not a fighter to begin with, was in wools to counter the cold of the night. She had refused to wear armor of any sort, contrary to the counsel of her partners. Instead, she asked the men to worry about themselves and not get stuck anywhere.“We put the matter to vote, and it was unanimous,” Damon quipped.“I am glad,” the Prefect said. “Victory feels more certain now. I hope you are not bringing the kid.” Zoe had been put to sleep in Felicity’s room. It would be risky for the trio to take the child into the enemy’s den at that time of night. “She is weary from the trip and is enjoying a good night’s sleep.”“Good. Good. It is better if girls her age do not see such horrors.”Outside the inn, seventeen other people were gathered. Thes

  • 25 Peculiar Pitstop

Felicity was swimming in a mysterious body of water. Moonlight lit her way ahead. The night was peaceful and serene. She swam onward for some time and then floated on her back, kicking gently with backstrokes. Was it a dream? If it was, then it was a pleasant change from her usual nightmares. There was a creek near the farm where she grew up. Felicity would spend hours in the water talking to fish. But the dream was in an unfamiliar place. She heard a splash. Something rose out of the water like a giant arm. Under the moonlight, she saw dark glistening scales. A rancorous and miasmic aura exuded from it. Felicity paddled to her left to avoid the object. But there was another one blocking her way, and many others surfaced to surround her. In no time, the long, slender arms encircled her. They flipped in the air like tentacles. Felicity swam towards land, but other appalling creatures were waiting for her on the embankment—a large bat with shadowy wings and a tr

The sun was low on the horizon. Three horses trotted on a dusty path at a brisk pace. On the left was Damon’s stallion, Friar, a chestnut dun fjord, one of the friendly breeds of the grasslands that he purchased from Cuppa. Felicity, in the middle, had brought a horse that she had raised on her farm, a gorgeous creme buckskin. She had named it Silver, after its shiny overcoat. Silver had gray eyes as a foal, which had now turned amber. The men had listened to her talk about the steed with patience. The subject was not a fascinating one for them. They liked to hear Felicity’s voice. It was a thirst they did not know they had until they met her.The issue, however, had been to find Tarsus, a proper horse. The hulk was well over six feet and weighed over two hundred and fifty pounds. After rigorous scouting, an acquaintance of Empousa had procured a criollos horse for him. It was a lofty animal, almost six feet in height. But Tarsus mounted and dismou

The boat floated leisurely towards the river bank. Hypnos looked like a large upright bat, leaning against the stern with arms wrapped around himself. Repeated failure had made him bitter and distraught. He always located potential seraph vessels through a blood spell. In his last attempt at the ritual, the duo had abducted a patrician girl from Modo. She was a healthy colleen with a robust constitution. Hypnos had been very optimistic about the results. Amidst an elaborate ritual, including blood sacrifices and a fire circle, the live vessel had exploded midway. This time it was different. He had had a vision of the girl and where she lived, in a vivid dream. Accepting it as a sign from his mistress, Hypnos had proceeded to use her as a vessel. But he faced abject failure yet again. At that rate, he could never awaken the Dark Seraph, and his dreams of becoming a god would be crushed.Hypnos was a reject from the Labors. Rhode accepted some bread and water after she had thrown up her fill of mud. Hypnos cast another spell to remedy her weakness. Dusk had set in, and Grave lit a torch near the mouth of the cavern. The necromancer had disappeared from view, but Rhode could hear him going bump in the dark, near the river bank. She thought she heard a small animal braying from that direction.“It is almost time,” Grave told her. “The solstice is upon us.”He gave her a cloak and turned away to give her privacy. Rhode undressed from the mud-caked tunic and wrapped the blanket tightly around her neck to the knees. The riverside would be chilly this time of the night. She had not come to terms yet, with the prospect of becoming the vessel for a seraph. The sheer scale of it went over her head. She had lived encumbered in the Agrippa household all her life. Apart from a few visits to the town marketplace, she could not see the rest of Fugi, forget about the other
