“Who among you is a close friend of Isadora?!"

Benjamin spoke up, his voice husky with the usual harshness.

The maids startled to his voice, silence passed over the hall as though a ghost had awakened at the eerie hour of the night.

None of them responded. The silence stretched longer, pregnant with unsettling dread and tension.

Benjamin snorted, his patience teetering on the edge. He slammed his palm against the armrest and leaned forward sharply, his eyes blazing.

“You all are deaf!?!" His voice rang like a bell toll, startling the maid once more. Not of them talked— they were all gripped with fear.

Benjamin shook his head gently, seeing that none of them was willing to talk. He leaned forward and pointed at the chief maid.

“Jasmine!" He called harshly, making jasmine tremble, her knee buckled and she nearly collapsed with fear.
