Chapter 9: First Day at New Academy Part-I

We were half way into the campus and both of us were already amazed. We were walking through a paved pathway, and a loud group of obnoxious students were in front of us. I glimpsed over at Laeratia to see an irritated look on her face.

Not only was the campus as big as we've heard of, the architecture of the buildings really brought out that refined image of this elite academy. No wonder it was one of the top academies in the country and everyone wants to be a product out of this brand.

The crowd of students was increasing the more we were walking towards the main building. In the mail we received, it was instructed that the orientation would take place in the auditorium. But with a campus of this scale, finding it on the first day was a difficult task.

"What time is it?" Laeratia asked, as I looked down at my watch and replied, "It's half past eight."

"Oh shit! We only got fifteen minutes."

"Calm down, let's just ask someone." I advised. Laeratia seemed to favour the idea as her eyes wandered around, searching for a potential person to ask help from.

"Hey…"

"Umm… excuse me?"

Laeratia tried to call out to people in the most polite way possible, but none of them seemed to even raise an eye towards her. Either everyone here is full of themselves, or Laeratia is bad at it. But knowing her, I was pretty sure what the case was.

She looked at me with a frown on her face. Giving her a shrug, I looked around and noticed the group of those obnoxious girls were right in front of us. I could see three of them walking alongside each other. The one on the side had brown hair tied in a ponytail which was swaying left to right with each step.

"Oi, Ponytail!" I called out in the most blunt way possible. I could feel a few eyes raised at me and a very embarrassed Laeratia standing with her jawa half dropped.

She stopped and turned around to look at who called her in such a rude tone. She was quite a petite girl, with bangs that were covering her forehead. Her blue coloured eyes threw daggers at me, "What the… are you talking to me?"

"Yeah." I nodded. Her slanted eyebrows were enough to tell me how offended she was, "I've a name!"

"What a coincidence. I've one too." I replied and she just kept staring at me without saying anything. One of her friends interjected, "What's with the attitude, you jerk!"

I knew how it was to address someone like that in public. But if you want help from someone in public then instead of asking randomly, if you pick a particular person and ask them to help, they're more likely to respond and actually help you.

Clenching my jaws, I walked forward and asked in a polite and soft voice, "Ah, I apologise for it. I just wanted a little bit of help from you. Would you be kind enough?"

"You… are so pretentious, but anyways." She was reluctant to trust my words and I won't blame her. But at least this little exchange created an opening for Laeratia to ask them for help.

"Umm… can you guys tell us where the auditorium is?" Laeratia asked without wasting a single second.

"Wait a minute… are you guys here for orientation?" The girl asked her back and she answered her with a question of herself, "First years?"

"Yep." I replied with a nod. Her eyes shifted towards me for an instance and I could tell she already hated me.

At least I got the job done. Good Job Kigan!

"Alright then let's go." She smiled at Laeratia as we started following them. Laeratia wasn't really happy with what happened and she was giving me very hostile side looks while managing to smile and talk with those girls.

Girls are scary.

We were walking away from what we thought was the main building. Auditorium was beside the administration building which was right in front of the main building. Just that small ground separated them. With the girls conversing among themselves, I sure felt out of place.

We entered the hallway which connected to the building. I wasn't paying much attention but suddenly the girl with the ponytail came flying into me. I held her by the shoulder, and staggered back a few steps as I was caught off guard.

"What happened?" I asked her. A hoarse voice sounded, as I looked up, "Can't you see where you're going?"

Two guys were standing in front of us with a very irritated look on their faces. Both of them had similar physiques and were quite tall. One of the guys who had his hair tied in a ponytail spouted, "Oi girl, it's your fault. You should see where you're going instead of talking to your friends with your eyes on your knees."

"Stupidass!" His friend commented while giving her looks. She pushed me back, and stepped forward in full energy to argue, "Excuse me?"

"Are you guys first year?" He asked her, and Laeratia decided to intervene calmly, "Yes we are. Is there any problem with that?"

"Dude, they are just starting here." He looked at him and they started snickering among themselves, "Well, be easy on them."

"Well, since you're new here, let us show you how things are done here." The ponytail guy stepped a bit closer to Laeratia with a smug on his face. I decided to call him out and interject, "Dude? Listen, it's our fault for walking like we own the hallway."

"That's what I was saying." His friend seemed to like what I said as he smiled at me. I nodded reluctantly and said in a polite tone, "But I would like to state the fact that we'll be late for your orientation if we participated in your little class."

"Little…"

Before they could say anything, I patted Laeratia on the shoulder and we started walking. "Alright, it was great talking. Let's get moving guys."

"Quite smooth, aren't you?" The ponytail girl turned over her shoulder to look at me with a smile as I replied with an awkward smile, "You think?"
