Chapter 007

"Sylvia, why is your face so red? Did something happen?" Sophie Hale's confused voice suddenly rang out from the doorway.

At some point, Sophie had finished her search of the area and returned to their location.

Sylvia Hale stiffened immediately upon hearing those words, and even though she hadn't actually done anything wrong, she felt an overwhelming guilt as if she had just been caught having an affair. She looked up at Caleb Mercer in a panic, only to find him gazing back at her with a playful expression that clearly showed he wanted to see her make a fool of herself.

She let out a soft huff and shot him a reproachful glare before rubbing her cheeks and offering a casual excuse. "It is nothing. I just got a little hot looking for things earlier, so the redness will fade in a moment. Right, Sophie, did you happen to find anything useful?"

"Oh." Sophie nodded, completely oblivious to any underlying tension. Instead, she raised the item in her hand toward Caleb with a proud expression as if asking for praise. "Look what I found."

Caleb looked over instinctively.

[Rusty iron axe. A rare and excellent item that you can use to kill zombies or chop down trees.]

"This is an iron axe!" Caleb felt his pupils contract, and he nearly lost his voice in astonishment. "Where did you get this?"

"I just found this iron axe lying around out there," she replied simply.

Caleb let out a hearty laugh. "Not bad at all! You are amazing, Sophie!"

"Hehe." Sophie skipped over and wrapped her arms around Caleb's arm without a hint of shyness, speaking with enthusiastic energy. "Caleb, I found such a great item for you. If Sylvia and I ever run into danger in the future, you absolutely cannot abandon us."

"Rest assured!" Caleb patted his chest and made a firm promise. "You two are my lucky stars, and I will never abandon you!"

"Really?" Sophie asked, her eyes brightening.

"Of course it is true, so let us go retrieve a treasure now," Caleb said.

"What kind of treasure?" she asked curiously.

"You will find out once we get there," he replied.

The two of them quickly walked toward the adjacent courtyard. Sylvia followed right behind them, and as she watched their intimate figures, she felt a complex mix of emotions swirling in her heart. Her mind inevitably wandered back to the moment when she and Caleb had been embracing just moments ago.

That feeling was actually quite intoxicating.

Sylvia shook her head and quickly pushed those thoughts out of her mind, scolding herself internally. She reminded herself that he was her student and she absolutely could not entertain such improper thoughts. However, a conflicted expression appeared on her face as another reality dawned on her. Caleb was the only male here, which meant that if she did not get together with him, her system would be completely useless.

Aside from her luck-based ability, she had also awakened a system of her own, which was called the Legacy-Blessing System. The system had informed her that she only needed to get pregnant and give birth to receive rewards, and her pregnancy period would be shortened until a child could be born in just three months. 

Whether it was getting pregnant or giving birth, the system offered rewards that were absolutely impossible for her to refuse, and the more children she had in the future, the more abundant her rewards would become.

The only problem was that Caleb was the only man around, meaning that if she wanted to reap those rewards, she had no choice but to do it with him. A deep sense of conflict washed over her face again as she struggled to make a firm decision.

The three of them soon arrived in the courtyard where Caleb had been staying earlier.

Sophie stared down into the pitch-black mouth of the well, a shiver running through her heart. "Caleb, is there really a treasure down there? It looks incredibly dark! There are not any ghosts in there, are there? Maybe we should just forget about it."

Caleb instructed them to wait at the top while he went down to take a look. If it had been earlier, Caleb might have actually been a little too scared to go down, but with two gorgeous women standing right there, his masculine pride and competitive spirit flared up. Even if there really was a ghost lurking at the bottom, he would go down there and kill the damn thing a second time. Nobody needed to ask why, as it could all be blamed on a man's damn competitive nature.

The two women nodded and watched as Caleb slowly lowered himself down the rope hanging from the mouth of the well. It was almost completely pitch-black once he reached the bottom, though the inside of the well did not feel damp at all, making it seem like it had dried up a long time ago. There were no sounds to be heard inside, only the lingering scent of decay in the air.

He descended about twenty-five feet before finally hitting the bottom of the well, and although his vision was obscured by the darkness, the space was wide enough for him to crouch down.

[Special treasure detected ahead.]

A system notification popped up before his eyes the moment he crouched down. Caleb felt a surge of joy in his heart and hurriedly reached out to feel around the dark space. It did not take long for his fingers to brush against a small iron box, which he quickly picked up. After confirming there was nothing else nearby, Caleb slowly opened the iron box in the pitch-black darkness.

[Special treasure discovered: physique enhancement serum.]

"What in the world is a physique enhancement serum?" Caleb muttered, freezing in surprise. Was this not something that only existed in those immortal cultivation worlds?

Without any hesitation, he popped the cap off the porcelain bottle and downed the entire contents in one gulp. A warm current instantly gathered in his lower abdomen as a series of loud cracking sounds echoed from every bone in his body.

Caleb's face twisted in intense agony. "It hurts so much! Holy shit, did this stuff expire or something?"

Caleb had no idea how much time had passed before he finally opened his eyes again, realizing he had actually passed out from the excruciating pain. He suddenly stood up and immediately felt an endless supply of strength coursing through his entire body, noting that his muscles felt as hard as solid rock. Most importantly, his kidneys had received an unprecedented level of reinforcement.

Caleb revealed a highly satisfied smile as he felt the explosive power surging through his frame. He had previously worried about whether he could handle so many women on his own, but after drinking this physique enhancement serum, he knew he could take on as many as he wanted without breaking a sweat. His entire body felt as though it had been completely reborn from the inside out.

"Caleb, please say something!" Sophie's tearful voice echoed down from the top of the well.

Caleb paused for a moment before hurriedly shouting back to tell them not to worry and that he was coming up immediately. He grabbed the rope and gave it a light pull, instantly feeling as light as a feather as he scaled the twenty-five-foot distance and shot out of the well in less than five seconds.

Holy shit, I am basically Superman now!

Both women rushed forward with anxious expressions the moment he emerged from the well, and Sophie still had faint tear tracks lingering around her eyes. She threw her arms around Caleb and sobbed uncontrollably. "Caleb, what on earth happened down there? You scared me to death, and I honestly thought I was never going to see you again. If something bad happened to you, the rest of us would be completely doomed."

Caleb gently patted her small head and let out a helpless sigh. "There was a minor accident down there earlier, but everything is perfectly fine now. You do not need to worry about me, because I am completely fine. Now, let us continue gathering our resources."

"Right now?" Sylvia paused in shock before quickly speaking up. "But according to my calculations, we will surpass the eight-hour limit if we do not board the train within the next ten minutes."

"What?" Caleb's eyes widened in sheer disbelief. "Did we not have four hours left just a moment ago? How could we suddenly only have ten minutes remaining?"

"Caleb, what exactly is wrong with you? You stayed inside that well for almost four whole hours and nearly scared us to death," Sylvia asked in utter confusion. "You did not forget all about that, did you?"

Hearing those words finally made Caleb realize that he had actually passed out from the pain right after drinking the physique enhancement serum. He never expected to be unconscious for four entire hours, which perfectly explained why the two women were reacting like this. It was extremely fortunate that he woke up when he did, otherwise they would have missed the train and been completely screwed. It seemed he would need to start taking his discoveries back to a safe place before consuming them in the future.

Caleb spoke in a deep, serious tone. "The two of you need to head back to the train immediately, and I will catch up with you soon!"

"Caleb, we are running out of time, so are you not going to leave with us?" Sylvia asked in utter confusion.

"Do not worry about it! I can definitely catch up to you, so you both need to leave right now!" Caleb insisted.

"Then you need to hurry." Left with no other choice, the two women quickly hurried away from the courtyard.

Caleb did not hesitate for a second, immediately pulling out that rusty iron axe and swinging it hard against the massive tree nearby. This was a whole hundred units of wood, and he had no intention of letting it slip through his fingers. Wealth and fortune could only be found amidst danger, meaning he had no choice but to risk it all right here.

Given his vastly improved physical constitution, it would take him less than thirty seconds to dash back and board the train.
