The black SUV pulled into the underground parking of the Rivercrest Towers—one of the most exclusive addresses in the city.

It had been nearly two years since James last stepped foot in this place. Back then, he had left willingly, trading solitude and power for the illusion of love and family.

Now he was back. The elevator doors opened silently, revealing the top-floor penthouse he still owned—untouched, pristine, yet distant, like a locked memory. The door clicked open. The air inside was fresh. Clean. Someone had been maintaining it, just as instructed. Polished marble floors reflected the soft evening light. Art pieces still hung where he left them. The scent of sandalwood lingered faintly in the air—his scent. He stepped in slowly, the cane tapping softly against the tiles. No sound. No voices. No lies. Just peace.

He moved to the glass wall overlooking the skyline. The city lights glittered like stars beneath his feet. For a long moment, he stood in silence, letting the weight of everything settle—not in defeat, but in clarity. He reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone, and dialed a familiar number. It rang once. Twice. Then answered.

“Boss,” came the voice. Steady. Loyal.

“Liam,” James said calmly. “I’m back.” There was a short pause, then a sharp breath on the other end.

“Yes, sir. I’ll notify the board.”

“Good,” James said. “I want you to prepare everything. Full access. No filters. I want every department’s latest report on my desk by morning.”

“Yes, sir. And… the Germany trip next week. Should I represent you again?”

“No,” James replied. “I’m attending that myself. And you’re coming with me.” Liam didn’t respond immediately.

Then: “Understood, sir. I’ll make the arrangements.”

James turned away from the window and walked toward the sleek black desk that still sat in the corner of the living room. He hadn’t touched it in months, but it waited as if knowing he would return.

“One more thing,” James said, his voice colder now. “Send someone to my former residence.”

“To speak with Mrs. Davison?”

“To follow up on the divorce,” James replied. “I want this done. Fast. Clean. No delays.”

“Understood.”

James ended the call without another word. He stood there in the quiet, in the heart of a space built for a man like him—a man he had forgotten how to be. But not anymore. No more hiding. No more second chances. His hands moved slowly across the surface of the desk, and a slight smile curved his lips—one that didn’t reach his eyes. Everything Rose had taken from him, she would return.

And everything he had lost… he would rebuild. Piece by piece.

The next morning arrived with no warning—no announcement, no press release.

Just presence. At exactly 8:02 AM, the sleek black Rolls Royce pulled into the private executive driveway of Davidson Holdings. The guards stood straighter, eyes snapping forward as the back door opened. Out stepped James Davidson.

Dressed in a tailored black suit, subtle charcoal pinstripes catching the light, his posture upright despite the cane in his right hand. A pair of dark sunglasses hid his eyes, but even through them, the weight of his presence was unmistakable. He didn’t smile.

He didn’t nod. He walked. And as he did, everything changed. The front desk fell into a hush. Conversations died mid-sentence. Staff froze at their desks, eyes widening, breaths caught.

“Is that…?”

“Wait—he’s actually here?”

“I thought he was still… you know," “No. That’s James Davidson.” Word moved faster than footsteps. By the time he entered the executive elevator, the fifteenth floor already knew.

The boardroom lights were on. Senior directors, team leads, and associates gathered in silence, waiting for a routine strategy meeting—one that was supposed to be led by Liam, the PA.

But when the elevator chimed and the doors opened, it wasn’t Liam who stepped out.

It was the man they hadn’t seen in months. The lion who once built empires in silence.

James walked into the room without a word. The air seemed to shift—heavier, sharper. Liam followed quietly behind, carrying a digital folder.

“Good morning,” James said, his voice low but commanding. “I believe I kept you waiting.”

Everyone stood—some unsure whether to greet him, others barely able to find their voices.

“Sir… we didn’t expect—”

“You should have,” James interrupted calmly. “This is my company. And I don’t make public announcements when I come home.”

He moved to the head of the table and sat down—back straight, hands folded, cane resting beside his chair. He scanned the room. Not a sound.

The directors, who once spoke freely in his absence, sat stiffly. A few glanced down at their notes. Some didn’t even blink. Then, slowly, James removed his sunglasses and met their eyes one by one.

“This company,” he began, “has carried my name since before some of you knew how to read a balance sheet. I left it in capable hands when I needed to. But make no mistake—I never walked away. I was watching. I was listening.” He paused. “And now… I am back.”

The words echoed in the room like thunder. A few shifted uncomfortably in their chairs.

One man swallowed hard. Another reached for his pen with a shaking hand.

James continued, “From this point on, all departments report to me directly. Weekly summaries. Full transparency. Anyone who isn’t ready to operate at full speed… will be replaced.” No one spoke.

“Germany is next,” he said. “I’ll be leading the delegation. I expect every file, every contract, and every potential red flag on my desk before I board that plane.”

Liam nodded behind him, noting everything without being told.

“And as for those who assumed James Davidson was too weak to return…” He leaned forward slightly.

“…remember, lions do not roar in the forest until it is time to hunt.” He stood, gathering his papers, and turned for the door. Not a single person dared to breathe too loudly. As he stepped back into the elevator, someone whispered under their breath—but it was loud enough.

“James Davidson is back…” And he was.

Fully.

Expensive, intoxicating, and impossible to ignore.Seated at a candlelit table in the exclusive Roseheart Lounge atop the Marquee Hotel, Rose clinked her wine glass against Charles’s and leaned back with a satisfied smirk. The view of the skyline glittered around them like they were gods looking down at peasants. Her dress was red, backless, and scandalous in the best way. Her makeup—flawless. Her laugh? Louder now. Bolder.“Honestly, Charles,” she said, lips curling into a smile as she twirled her fork around a bite of risotto, “this city finally feels like mine.”Charles smirked across the table. “It’s yours, baby. Everything here is below your level now. Especially certain people.”Rose’s eyes narrowed slightly but amusement glimmered in her gaze. She knew who he meant. James PovJames Davidson stood in his office for the first time in Months. The soft hum of the city buzzed outside the glass panels that wrapped around the top floor of Davidson Corporation. Rose Pov Rose was seated in her office on the top floor of The Brooks World headquarters. Her legs were crossed neatly, red stilettos tapping a slow rhythm under her marble desk. She was flipping through an imported fashion magazine when her phone buzzed. The screen read: "Davidson & Hunt LLP." She blinked. Confused for a moment, she answered with her usual cool tone. “Hello?” “Good afternoon,” a crisp voice replied. “This is Melissa Grant, from Davidson & Hunt Legal. We’re following up regarding the divorce filing between Mr. James Davidson and yourself. Kindly confirm if you’ve reviewed and signed the documents so we may proceed to file with the court.” Rose leaned back slowly in her chair. There was a beat of silence. “…Excuse me?” she said, half-laughing. “The divorce documents. Our records show Mr. Davidson signed them a day ago. He instructed us to move quickly. We’re awaiting your signature to proceed.” Her brow arched high. “He’s… in a hurry?” “Yes, ma’am. He’s ask
