Chapter 1 PART 1
Three years ago, the hospital hallway smelled like bleach and slow death. Adrian stood outside his mother's room with the phone pressed against his ear so hard it left a mark. Chloe's voice came through, calm and steady, like she was reading from a script she had already rehearsed.
"Adrian, I need you to listen to me carefully."
"Just tell me. What is it?"
"Julian is in trouble. A hit and run case. If he goes to prison, his family will cut him off completely. His career, his inheritance, everything will be gone."
Adrian closed his eyes. His mother was on the other side of that door, hooked to machines that beeped every few seconds like a countdown. The doctor had already told him the surgery would cost a hundred thousand dollars. Money he did not have. Money he could never earn fast enough.
"What does that have to do with me, Chloe?"
"I need you to take the fall for him."
The words just hung there between them. Adrian pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at the screen like it might tell him she was joking. But he already knew she was not.
"You want me to go to jail. For Julian."
"It would only be a few years. And I will make sure your mother gets the best treatment money can buy. A hundred thousand dollars, Adrian. Julian's family will pay for everything."
His throat went dry. He looked through the small window on the door. His mother lay on the bed with her eyes closed, her face thin and grey, her chest barely rising.
"You are asking me to throw away my life."
"I am asking you to save your mother's life." Her voice did not waver. It did not soften either. "Sign the papers. Do this one thing for me, and I will take care of everything. I promise you."
He signed the papers that night. They put him in handcuffs the next morning. Chloe watched from across the courtroom with her arms folded, and she did not cry.
Three years passed.
The prison gates opened on a Tuesday morning in November. The air outside was cold enough to sting. Adrian walked out in the same clothes they had taken from him when he went in. They were loose now, hanging off his bones like they belonged to someone bigger. Someone he used to be.
He stood on the sidewalk for a long time, looking in both directions. No car. No face he recognized. Nobody.
He pulled out the old phone they had returned to him and dialed Chloe's number. It rang four times before she picked up.
"Hello?" Her voice was casual, distracted, like she was in the middle of something else entirely.
Adrian opened his mouth but nothing came out. Three years of silence, and now her voice was right there in his ear, and he could not find a single word. His throat was tight and raw. He swallowed hard.
"Chloe?"
"Who is this?"
The question hit him like a brick thrown at close range. Who is this. Three years of his life rotting in a cell for her, and she did not even recognize his voice.
"It's me. Adrian."
"Adrian?" She repeated the name slowly, like she was flipping through old files in her head trying to match it to something. Then a small pause. "Oh. Adrian. Wait, are you out already?"
Already. Like he was a package that arrived on the wrong day. Like three years in prison was a minor inconvenience she had penciled into her calendar and then lost the page.
"The jailer told me he informed you about my release. I thought you would be here to pick me up."
"Did he? I honestly don't remember getting any call." She sounded like she was talking about a missed delivery notification. No guilt, no shame, no urgency. Just a woman going through her day who had been mildly interrupted. "You know how it is, Adrian. I have so much going on with work these days. I completely lost track."
Lost track. She had lost track of the man she sent to prison. She had forgotten the sound of his voice. She had forgotten he existed at all, the way people forget about a coat they left at a restaurant three winters ago.
"How is my mom? I want to see her."
"Your mom?" Another pause. The kind that told him she had not thought about Mary in a very long time either. "Right. She's still at the hospital, I think. Let me send you the address. I'll transfer some money too, and you can go take care of things from there."
His phone buzzed. Fifty dollars and a text with an address. That was it. Three years of sacrifice, and she wrapped it up in a fifty dollar transfer and a dropped pin on a map.
"Chloe, I haven't seen you in three years."
"I know. Listen, I really have to go. We'll catch up later, okay?"
She hung up before he could answer, the way someone ends a call with a telemarketer. Quick and clean, already thinking about the next thing.
Adrian stared at the screen until it went dark. She had not been avoiding him. That would have meant she still thought about him enough to stay away. This was worse. She had simply forgotten. Forgotten his voice, his face, his sacrifice, his entire existence. He had spent three years counting days, and she had not counted a single one.
He got in a taxi and gave the driver the hospital address. His fingers moved on their own, opening the social media app he had not touched in three years. Julian's profile came up first. The feed was full of photos. Chloe and Julian at restaurants. Chloe and Julian on beaches. Chloe laughing with her head on Julian's shoulder. Three years of moments, three years of a life she built on top of the one she buried him in.
Then the newest post loaded.
Julian was on one knee. Chloe had both hands over her mouth, tears streaming down her face, her left hand already stretching out for the ring. The caption read, "She said yes."
Adrian's chest caved in. Not slowly. All at once, like something collapsed inside him that had been holding the rest of him up. He locked the phone and pressed it against his forehead, and the driver glanced at him in the mirror but did not say a word.
The hospital lobby was loud when he walked in. A woman was screaming somewhere down the hall, and nurses were moving fast. Too fast. Adrian's legs carried him forward before his brain caught up, because the woman screaming was his mother.
Two nurses had Mary by the arms, dragging her toward the exit like she was a bag of laundry. Her hospital gown was twisted around her frail body, her bare feet sliding across the cold tile. She looked like she weighed nothing.
"Mom!" Adrian rushed forward and grabbed the lead nurse's arm. "What are you doing? Let her go!"
The nurse, a heavy woman with a clipboard and a mouth that looked like it had never smiled, yanked her arm free and shoved him backward. Adrian hit the floor hard, his elbows cracking against the tile.
"Who the hell are you?" She looked down at him the way someone looks at something stuck to the bottom of their shoe.
"That's my mother. You can't do this to her."
"Your mother?" The nurse laughed, loud and ugly. "This broke woman hasn't paid her bills in over a year. You think this is a charity? We don't keep stray dogs here."
"Please. I'll pay. Just give me some time."
"Time?" She stepped closer, her shadow falling over him. "Look at you. You look like you crawled out of a gutter. You can't even stand up straight, and you want to talk about paying?" She turned to the other nurses. "Throw them both out. Let them freeze on the sidewalk like the street dogs they are."
Mary's hand reached for Adrian from across the floor, her fingers trembling, her lips moving but no sound coming out.

My Ex-Convict Beggar Husband Is Now a Trillionaire Chapter 10 part-2
“You mentioned an arranged marriage. With someone named Julian.” Adrian watched her face carefully. “Do you know his full name?”The change was instant. Her whole body went rigid, like someone had pressed a knife against her spine. Her nostrils flared and her lips pulled into a thin, hard line. The cold indifference cracked open for a moment, and underneath it was something hot and furious.“Why do you want to know?”“Just tell me his full name. That’s all I’m asking.”“Julian Malcolm.” She said the name the way someone spits out food that has gone bad. “The most worthless piece of garbage walking on two legs in this city. A leech who feeds off his family’s money and treats every person beneath him like dirt on his shoe.”Adrian’s stomach dropped. The same Julian. The same voice that had called his mother a bottom feeder. The same man who told him to put a cup on the street and beg.“You know him well?”“I know enough.” Her voice was low and tight, controlled but burning underneath. “

My Ex-Convict Beggar Husband Is Now a Trillionaire Chapter 10 part-1
Adrian's whole body went still. Julian. The name landed in his chest like a stone dropped into deep water, and the ripples spread outward through every nerve in his body. The woman snapped two short sentences into the phone, her voice clipped and final, and hung up without waiting for a response. She tossed the phone onto the crumpled sheets and exhaled through her nose. Then she looked down. Her eyes moved over her own body, the bare shoulders, the sheet twisted loosely around her waist, and the realization hit her all at once. Her lips pressed together and color flooded up her neck and into her cheeks."What are you looking at?" The words came out sharp and loud, more bark than sentence. She yanked the sheet up to her collarbone and glared at him like he had committed a crime by existing in the same room."Nothing. I wasn't looking at anything.""You were staring.""I just woke up. My eyes were open. That's not the same thing as staring.""Get out."Adrian held up both hands and bac

“I do not care what his family offered. I do not care how much money they have or how many buildings they own or how many people think he is some kind of golden prince.” Her tone did not rise. It stayed level, almost bored, like she was reading items off a list she had already thrown in the trash. “I have met Julian Ashford. I know exactly what kind of man he is.”Adrian’s stomach tightened. He turned to look at her fully now, and she must have felt his eyes on her because she glanced at him again, brief and dismissive, before returning her attention to the phone.“You want to know what kind of man Julian is?” She stood up and walked to the window, pulling the curtain aside just enough to let in a thin blade of light. “He is the kind of man who smiles at you while he is counting the money in your pocket. He is the kind of man who calls other people dogs when they are down and then goes to church on Sunday like his hands are clean. He treats anyone below him like garbage on the street,

My Ex-Convict Beggar Husband Is Now a Trillionaire Chapter 9 part -1
Adrian's eyes opened to a ceiling he did not recognize. The light was wrong. Too soft, too clean, filtered through curtains that smelled like lavender instead of prison bleach. His head was pounding, a slow heavy drum behind his temples that made the room tilt when he tried to sit up. His mouth tasted like something had crawled inside it and died.He blinked twice and pressed his palm against his forehead. Fragments of last night came back in pieces. The bar. The whiskey he had no business drinking after three years of nothing stronger than tap water. A woman's laugh somewhere in the haze, low and careless, like she had heard a joke that was only half funny. Her hand on his arm. The taxi. This room.A phone was ringing.Adrian turned his head and saw her. She was lying on her side with the sheet pulled up to her shoulders, her dark hair fanned across the pillow. Her face was still, almost severe even in sleep, the kind of face that did not soften easily. Her brow furrowed at the sound
