Chapter 1
Sell Your Kidney, Useless Husband!
Ethan Reed blinked hard, sure he’d heard her wrong over the beeping monitors and shuffling feet in the crowded hospital hallway.
“Sell your kidney.” Sophia Reed stood there like she was ordering takeout, not ripping his world apart. Perfect hair, perfect makeup, designer bag dangling from her arm like she was heading to brunch instead of burying him alive. The billing manager froze mid-sentence. Three nurses stopped rolling their carts. A couple of worried families in the waiting chairs leaned in, phones already half out. “What?” Ethan’s voice came out rough, like gravel in his throat. Sophia didn’t even blink. “People live perfectly fine with one kidney, Ethan. Dad needs eighty thousand dollars by tomorrow morning. You’re the only asset we have left.” The words hit like a slap. A nurse actually dropped her clipboard with a loud clatter. Another one whispered way too loud, “Oh my God…” Phones came out faster. The hallway turned into a damn theater. Ethan’s face burned. His hands clenched at his sides, knuckles white. “You’re serious? Right here? In front of everybody?” She stepped closer and placed a soft hand on his arm, playing the loving wife for the crowd. Her touch felt ice-cold. “I’m only thinking about your father, sweetheart. I already signed the consent forms this morning at the broker’s office. All you have to do is show up tonight. They’ll wire the full amount the second the procedure’s done. This is the only way to save him.” The silence was deafening. Every ear in that hallway strained to catch every word. Ethan’s chest tightened so hard he could barely breathe. “If I sell it now… what if Dad needs one later? A family match could...” Sophia kept the gentle voice going a little longer, but her eyes were already sharpening. “I’m doing this for our family. If you truly love him, you’ll make the sacrifice.” Her phone rang. She answered it right there, loud enough for the whole damn floor to hear. “Marcus? Yes, baby, I’m coming down right now.” She laughed softly, the sound like nails on Ethan’s heart. “Don’t worry, I handled Ethan. He’ll have the money by tomorrow morning. Just wait for me in the car. I love you.” She hung up. The loving-wife mask shattered in an instant. Her lips curled into something ugly and cold. “My father raised a successful daughter,” she said, voice low and venomous. “Yours raised a failure. Don’t make me look stupid in front of Marcus. Go to the address. Do the one useful thing you’ve ever done in this marriage. Or watch your father die knowing it’s all because of you.” Sophia spun on her expensive heels and walked away without a backward glance. The hallway exploded. “Did she just call another man ‘baby’ while her husband stood right there?” “She already signed the consent forms? Like… without telling him?” “That poor man looks like he works three jobs… and she still treats him like trash…” The whispers wrapped around Ethan like chains. Shame crashed over him so heavy his knees almost buckled. He stared at the crumpled paper she’d shoved into his hand earlier...the broker’s address scrawled in her neat handwriting. His fingers shook as he stuffed it into his pocket. He walked out of that hospital like a ghost. Every staff member watched him go. Some had pity in their eyes. Most just kept gossiping. The night bus across the city was packed tight. Ethan squeezed into the back corner in his dirty construction clothes, the smell of sweat and dust clinging to him. Strangers stared at his tired face, his calloused hands. He kept his head down, replaying every second. The way Sophia had smiled for the crowd before twisting the knife. The soft laugh she gave Marcus on the phone. The way she’d said “I love you” like it was nothing. By the time he stepped off in the shady part of town, the humiliation had hardened into something colder, heavier. A stone in his chest that made every breath hurt. The underground clinic was exactly what he expected...a dirty basement behind an old, boarded-up pharmacy. A scarred man yanked open the iron door. “Kidney seller? Downstairs. Table. Shirt off. We don’t have all night.” Ethan lay on the cold metal table, staring at the cracked ceiling. The examiner moved fast, checking blood pressure, veins, muttering numbers. Then the man’s hand brushed the simple jade pendant around Ethan’s neck...the only thing his mother had left him before she passed. The examiner froze. He touched the pendant again. Fingers trembling. His face went sheet-white. “It can’t be…” he whispered, voice cracking. Without another word, he dropped his tools with a clatter and bolted out of the room, screaming for the others. Chaos erupted. Footsteps thundered down the hallway. Doors slammed. Another doctor burst in, eyes wide. Then the clinic owner...flashy watch glinting under the harsh lights...pushed through. Two men in sharp black suits followed. More people crowded into the tiny basement room, shoving and staring at the plain jade pendant like it was made of pure gold. Ethan sat up slowly, heart hammering. “What the hell is going on? Is that pendant stolen? Is it worth something?” No one answered. Phones started ringing nonstop. Shouts echoed from upstairs. Someone was yelling for more staff to come down immediately. An old man with silver hair and a crisp white coat finally pushed through the growing crowd. Dr. Elias Grant. The second his eyes landed on the jade pendant, his face drained of all color. His hands shook so badly he had to grip the edge of the table. “Call them,” Dr. Grant ordered, voice trembling with raw urgency. “Call them right now!” One of the assistants swallowed hard. “Sir… who exactly do we call?” “Everyone.” Dr. Grant’s eyes locked onto Ethan with an intensity that made the entire noisy room go dead silent. “Every hospital director. Every board member. Tell them…” He paused, breathing harder, chest rising and falling like he’d just run a marathon. “…the heir has finally been found.” Ethan frowned, confusion cutting through the fog in his head. “Heir? What heir?” Silence swallowed the room. Every single person stared at him now...not with pity, not with mockery, but with shock… and something that looked a hell of a lot like reverence.Expand

Forced to Sell My Kidney, I Owned the Hospital Empire THE BANQUET INVITE
The hospital charity dinner was never meant for men who still had dust in the seams of their shoes, and Ethan understood that the moment he walked into the grand hall on the top floor of Reed Medical’s private events wing. Crystal lights hung from the ceiling in careful rows, long tables stretched under white cloth so clean it made ordinary people look out of place, and the whole room carried that polished quiet that only money seemed able to buy. Doctors in evening jackets stood with donors who smiled as if generosity were a language they had practiced in mirrors, and every tray that passed smelled like a world Ethan used to clean up after, not sit inside. He had not wanted to come. Dr. Grant had made the case that afternoon with the calm firmness of a man who had watched boards destroy people for smaller absences than this. According to him, if Ethan stayed upstairs with his father, Victor would walk through the evening telling anyone important that the new heir was hiding because

Forced to Sell My Kidney, I Owned the Hospital Empire OLD JOB, NEW FLOOR
The construction site looked the same. Dust in the air. Shouting across the yard. The high scream of a saw biting through steel. Men in boots moving like the day had already beaten them and was lining up for another round. Ethan stepped through the gate in the same clothes he used to wear every morning. Plain shirt. Hard pants. Boots that still remembered mud. No hospital badge. No car waiting. No Dr. Grant behind him. He was not here as chairman. He was here as the man who still had one last envelope of pay sitting in a dirty site office. A worker near the cement mixer glanced up, then looked again. “That Reed?” Somebody else laughed. “Thought he upgraded to hospital food.” Ethan kept walking. The foreman saw him before he reached the steps. Ray Donovan was a big man with a red neck and a mouth that never learned soft words. He wiped his hands on a rag that had given up being clean years ago and grinned. “Well, look who remembered the real world,” Ray said. “VIP hospital b

Forced to Sell My Kidney, I Owned the Hospital Empire VICTOR'S TEA
Victor Lang’s office didn’t look like a set-up. That was the whole point. Clean wood, soft lighting, and floor-to-ceiling windows that made the city skyline look like it was on its knees. A freshly brewed pot of tea sat on the coffee table, steam curling up like this whole meeting was just a friendly favor, not a test. Ethan showed up in his usual gear: plain shirt, no jacket, and work boots he’d wiped down instead of replacing. He sat down right where Victor pointed, letting the room swallow him up and make him look small. Victor poured the tea himself. “Unconventional,” Victor said, flashing a smooth smile like he’d just paid him a compliment. “Most guys in your shoes would’ve dropped cash on a fancy new suit first.” Ethan watched his cup fill up. “I didn’t come here for a dress code.” “Right. You came because your old man is sick, and out of nowhere, the hospital bumped him up to the penthouse suite.” Victor set the teapot down real quiet. “That kind of sudden upgrade makes

Forced to Sell My Kidney, I Owned the Hospital Empire HORNET NESTS
Sophia stared at the screen, her chest heaving. “What did you do? What did you do to my money?!”“I plugged the hole you were draining me through,” Ethan said, his voice smooth as glass. “The fancy dinners. The hotels. The fake company you two set up. All of it.”The crowd’s quiet chatter completely changed. The vibe in the room shifted.Marcus took a step forward, trying to look tough. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, man.”“I know Hale Consulting doesn’t have a single employee,” Ethan replied, looking Marcus dead in the eye. “I know the last transfer cleared our account the exact morning Sophia told me to go sell my kidney. And I know you’re not getting another damn dime.”Sophia’s face went ghostly white, then flushed a dark, angry red. She panicked and reached for her favorite weapon: public humiliation.“You’re making a fool of yourself!” she spat, her voice shrill. “Everyone here knows what you really are! A broke, pathetic failure! If this hospital is giving you hando
